A 44-year-old babysitter was fined RM2,000 by the Magistrate’s Court in Ayer Keroh after pleading guilty to injuring a 21-month-old girl.

Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani meted out the sentence after Masmariati Samsudin, 44, admitted to the charge when it was read to her on Friday (Aug 21).

00:31The accused initially denied causing the injuries but later admitted to it.
00:35A medical examination classified injuries to the child's genital area and lower abdomen as physical assault.
00:42Her lawyer, Muhammad Mawadi, appealed for a minimum fine,
00:46saying the accused earned 350 ringgit a month as a babysitter and relied on her husband's military pension.
00:53He added that his client regretted her actions and admitted she had failed to control her emotions during the incident.
