00:00U.S. President Donald Trump met with top AI and tech firm executives at the White House on Tuesday,
00:06where he unveiled that an accord was signed by all to self-police the development of artificial intelligence
00:11as concerns mount over its consequential implications on humanity.
00:16The terms of the accord remain vague, and the legal liability on those responsible for advancing AI even more ambiguous.
00:24Mr. President, tell us why the world should not be concerned about AI, why there shouldn't be guardrails.
00:30Because we have people that love our country and love the world a lot.
00:33But it requires more than love, doesn't it, sir?
00:35No, it requires this, and they're the smartest people in the world.
00:38Is this accord that everybody signed, is it binding in any way?
00:42I think it's morally binding, yeah.
00:44Speaking on the White House lawn after what Trump described as a great meeting,
00:48in a bid to reassure the public, Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, the most valuable AI firm on the planet,
00:55said,
00:55There's no conflict between innovation, technology, and safety.
01:00We are going to have to create new technologies to advance the capabilities of AI,
01:05but we're also creating new technologies to advance the safety of AI.
01:08We're going to advance this technology that is so consequential to humanity,
01:11so consequential to the future prosperity of our nation,
01:14and we're going to do it responsibly and safely.
01:16Also present at the meeting with CEO of Anthropic,
01:19the company behind the popular AI chatbot, Claude,
01:23who has been one of the most outspoken voices in the industry,
01:26calling for a deceleration in development speed.
01:28I will say what I've always said, which is that AI has incredible benefits.
01:34I've talked about the medical benefits of the technology.
01:37As the president has said, whoever wins AI wins.
01:40I think that's very important.
01:42But I think the technology has very real risks.
01:45And, you know, the mechanism, how we address those risks, is still under discussion.
01:50Speaking at an earlier event on Tuesday,
01:53Trump insisted he will stop short of instating actual guardrails
01:56to slow down the development of the technology.
01:59He also took aim at China,
02:01with whom he recently committed to cooperating with on safe AI rollout,
02:05and said he doesn't really want to cooperate much,
02:08because the U.S. is far ahead.
