00:00The Football Association of Malaysia has apologized to Malaysian football fans

00:04over last year's forged documents controversy involving seven heritage players, Berita Harian reported.

00:11FAM President Abdul Ghani Hassan issued the apology on behalf of the association

00:15and its new executive committee, saying the leadership took the matter seriously

00:19and would prevent a repeat of the controversy.

00:23Abdul Ghani said FAM would tighten procedures for player documentation and national team call-ups

00:29and pledged there would be no repeat of the controversy during his tenure.

00:34Abdul Ghani was elected president for the remainder of the 2025-2029 term on September 17.

00:39His election came seven months after FAM's previous leadership stepped down

00:43following an Asian Football Confederation governance review.

00:48Former Deputy Inspector General of Police Ayub Khan Maidin Pichet

00:51has since been appointed chairman of FAM's Integrity Committee

00:55with Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency Director-General Shuhaili Zane as his deputy.

01:02Ayub retired in July after 35 years in the police force

01:06while Shuhaili previously headed Buket Aman's Criminal Investigation Department.

01:11Last year, FAM and seven naturalised Malaysian footballers were penalised by FIFA

01:16after the World Football Body found they had submitted falsified documents

01:20to support the players' eligibility before Malaysia's 2027 Asian Cup qualifier against Vietnam last June.

01:27FIFA found the documents falsely claimed the players had Malaysian-born grandparents

01:31when their grandparents were actually born in Spain, Argentina, Brazil and the Netherlands.

01:38FIFA fined FAM 350,000 Swiss francs

01:42while each player was fined 2,000 Swiss francs and suspended for 12 months.

01:47The Court of Arbitration for Sport partially upheld the players' appeal

01:51by limiting their 12-month bans to official matches

01:54but found the sanctions reasonable and proportionate.

01:58It also dismissed FAM's appeal against its fine.
