00:15The Creator
00:16Since making his comic debut in 1968, Ultron has long been a problem for the Avengers.
00:23Yet deep inside the villain was a lonely robot who just wanted love.
00:26But of course, since it's Ultron, he had to fix this issue in the most messed up way.
00:32So he kidnapped his creator Hank Pym and brainwashed him.
00:36Since Ultron's brain patterns are based on Pym,
00:38he got his creator to help the android also kidnap Pym's then-wife Janet Van Dyne,
00:43aka the Wasp, to use her noggin to create Jocasta.
00:47However, once a barely-formed Jocasta-slash-Janet realized this process would take human Janet's life,
00:53she called the Avengers, who stopped the process and seemingly destroyed Jocasta.
00:57However, she was soon revived with Janet's influence.
01:01Trying to become human
01:03Many of Marvel's machines have had a yearning to be human at some point.
01:07Can't really blame them, we're great.
01:09Yet none have had this more than Jocasta.
01:12Multiple times over the years, she's dreamed of being fleshy and taken drastic actions to approximate people.
01:18In the 2018-2019 Tony Stark Iron Man series,
01:23Jocasta worked with Arno Stark, Tony's adopted brother,
01:26to create synthetic organs to make the metal hero like a human.
01:29However, this increased desire was seemingly due to Ultron,
01:33who, at the time, had merged with Pym to create an abomination.
01:37However, because Ultron interrupted the process,
01:40he essentially killed Jocasta,
01:42who needed to be downloaded into a disused Friday body.
01:45Becoming an Avenger
01:47After breaking away from Ultron,
01:49Jocasta teamed up with the Avengers,
01:51but she was only given provisional status,
01:54despite helping the team on many missions.
01:56But the Avengers can seemingly only have one android officially on the team at a time,
02:01and they already had Vision.
02:03So, due to this and feeling lost,
02:05Jocasta left the group.
02:07Even when she kicked the bucket,
02:09more on that later,
02:10the Avengers still didn't posthumously give her official status.
02:13Years later, following the Civil War event,
02:16she joined the adjacent Avengers,
02:18the New Mexico 50-state initiative.
02:20Then, in 2009,
02:22Jocasta joined Pym's renegade team,
02:24the Mighty Avengers,
02:25as they operated against Norman Osborn's Dark Avengers.
02:28Finally, she became a faculty member at Avengers Academy.
02:32Iron Man's assistant
02:33After an intense battle with Madame Menace,
02:37Jocasta was downloaded into Tony's Iron Man armor to survive.
02:40Soon after, he put her into his mansion,
02:43using her as a digital assistant for his day-to-day superheroing.
02:46However, this led to one of the most infamous moments in Tony's life.
02:50By installing Jocasta into the armor,
02:53he accidentally triggered the Ultron imperative.
02:56A massive electric shock from Whiplash then turned the armor sentient.
02:59It became obsessed with Tony,
03:02kidnapped him,
03:02and made many uncomfortable comments.
03:05Incredibly, despite all that trauma,
03:07this wasn't the only time the two joined forces.
03:09When Tony formed Stark Unlimited in 2018,
03:13he appointed Jocasta as his, quote,
03:15chief robot ethicist.

03:19Considering Marvel's Jocasta has a confusing and blurred family tree,
03:23her namesake in Greek mythology makes perfect sense.

03:27Jocasta is coming from the palace.

03:36From inside the palace,
03:37I heard angry voices like a quarrel.
03:40Aren't you ashamed?
03:41Indulging yourself in private arguments,
03:44squabbling like boys while the city dies all around you.
03:47In those ancient fables,
03:49after Oedipus takes Laius' life,
03:51he marries the wife of his fallen foe, Jocasta.
03:53The couple would go on to have four children.
03:56Yet years later,
03:57Oedipus discovered the truth
03:59that Jocasta and Laius were actually his parents.
04:02My parenthood,
04:04a crime.
04:06My marriage,
04:08a crime.
04:11And that murder
04:14committed on my own father.
04:19I see it all now.
04:21They'd abandoned him as an infant
04:22when Laius was told a prophecy
04:23that his child would kill him
04:25and marry Jocasta.
04:26After discovering the truth,
04:28Jocasta took her own life.

05:56to change her appearance
05:57so villains don't know
05:58who to trust.
05:59For most baddies,
06:01one superhero is a problem.
06:02Well, Jocasta can control
06:04multiple robot bodies
06:06and overwhelm her foes
06:07with sheer numbers
06:08which is terrifying.
06:10The Machine Man Romance
06:11Speaking of underrated heroes,
06:14Aaron Stack,
06:15aka Machine Man,
06:16is another who shares that category.
06:18Shortly after Jocasta's creation,
06:20the duo,
06:20whether it's the original Stack
06:22or the so-called imposter,
06:24has long been teaming up,
06:25even in the romantic sense.
06:27For example,
06:28they even battled
06:29the Marvel Zombies together
06:30as an adorable couple.
06:31However,
06:32with Stack hating humanity,
06:34even referring to us
06:35as fleshy ones,
06:36this is a direct contradiction
06:38to Jocasta,
06:39who loves us homo sapiens.
06:41So when she was involved
06:42with Stark Unlimited,
06:44the two did break up for a while
06:45because of his more militant outlook.
06:47However,
06:48Jocasta returned to Stack,
06:49which had mixed results
06:51since he took her head off
06:52to remove a submission code.
