02:22The recent historic verdict underscores the consequences of those decisions.
02:28Now Morgan & Morgan is stepping up to hold these platforms accountable for the harm they caused.

02:37Because you may be entitled to a potential recovery of over $1,000.
02:46But that 69 F-250 that I built, something happened in my head, in my bones, in my blood, whatever,
02:53to where I just want to have one of these trucks around.
02:56I want to have a completely mechanical diesel around for a lot of reasons, but the main reason is they're
03:03just cool.
03:03And everywhere I would drive that 69, somebody would come up to me, whether it was the gas station, whether
03:08it was the big box store, and the range of people from 17-year-old kids all the way up
03:13to 75-year-old men wanted to ask me about that truck.
03:17And so I'm going to do the same thing with this truck.
03:20The difference is, instead of running the original patina that was on that other truck, I'm going to end up
03:25sanding this truck down to bare metal.
03:27I'm going to epoxy prime it, and then I'm going to paint it something that I think is good for
03:33the year that it is.
03:34I initially wasn't going to put this bed on the truck, and I was going to build a flatbed, but
03:39I think I've decided to go ahead and do the bodywork on this bed and put it on the truck.
03:44The issue is I still have three inches of frame that I have to take out of the Super Duty
03:49frame to make everything line up the way that it's supposed to.
03:53So the very first thing that I'm going to do is I'm going to take my marking pencil, and I'm
03:58going to make sure I've got center figured out.
03:59I'm going to get my plumb bob out, my marking pencil, and I'm going to make sure I've got center
04:04figured out on both of the wheel wells.
04:06So when I do go to line everything up, I'm going to know exactly how much of that frame on
04:11that Super Duty I'm going to have to cut.
04:12When I built the 69, I didn't cut the frame.
04:15I just slid the leaf springs and the spring shackles forward and re-drilled the holes.
04:20I've decided to go ahead and cut the frame on this truck, at least for the moment.
04:25I've decided to cut the frame because I have a fuel tank and a whole bunch of other stuff that
04:29comes into play on that Super Duty chassis.
04:32So I think I'm going to end up taking three inches out of the right behind the cab, I think
04:37is where I've decided to do it.
04:38But before I even do any of that stuff, I first have to get this cab sitting on that frame
04:43so I can make sure all my measurements are right.
04:58Well, it started raining for a good solid couple of days and that means it's hard to get any other
05:03projects outside finished up and I thought it's a good time to dive into the next diesel build.
05:09So here we go.
05:13The truck is actually a 1970 F-250 camper special and in spite of the patina paint job, it actually
05:20doesn't have hardly any rust and that's what I was looking for for this particular build.
05:26The plan is to put this 1970 F-250 body on the Super Duty chassis that has a 12-valve
05:33Cummins and the NV4500 and the chassis is ready to go.
05:37So all I need to do is get this broke down and start figuring out the measurements so I can
05:41get it swapped over.
06:03If you've been following along for the long haul, then you know that the drivetrain for this particular build came
06:08out of my oldest son's truck after he wrecked it, but the 12-valve Cummins is my absolute favorite diesel.
06:29The early 2000s Super Duty chassis still has leaf springs, but they're the longest production leaf springs made and in
06:36my opinion, an old truck like this looks best with leaf springs.
06:41I don't like the idea of seeing coil springs up front, so by using that chassis, the truck should handle
06:47and drive very well and by using that drivetrain, I should actually have the power that I need to hook
06:52up and pull the trailer.
06:53Regardless of how heavy that trailer is.
07:50What does the pulver idle do personally do with Lots of from always different paints to build on my own
07:53business if you want to do in the same addition it more depends on the system you can buy in
07:53the same way I need to understand it.
08:14I'm only going to need the cab and the bed and the front clip off of this truck for the
08:18build,
08:19so everything else needs to be cleaned up and removed.
08:40I knew there was a little tiny bit of rust in the floor pans of this truck, but so far
08:45that looks like that's all there is.
09:14I'm only going to need the cab and the front clip off of this truck.
09:16I'm only going to need the cab and the front clip off of this truck.
09:16I'm only going to need the cab and the front clip off of this truck.
09:46I can before I really start the process of breaking things down.
09:51So, using my pressure washer I'm going over everything.
10:12Even though this truck was a fairly rust free truck, it still was used as a farm truck for years.
10:19So, there's a layer of dust on just about everything and I'd love to get that all removed before I
10:24take it in the shop and break it down.
10:55I just made it a certain cl Budapen just after this building.
10:55It threw in the다ías.
10:55Let's go.
11:55Let's go.
11:55But I want to do it right and I want to take my time so I don't do any damage
12:00in the process.
12:01But I'll end up replacing everything like the wiring and all the seals so as I'm driving this truck down
12:07the road it doesn't make any more noise than it has to.
12:39So the fun begins.
12:40Once I get the bed removed and out of the way I'm going to lift the cab off and then
12:45I'm basically going to push the old frame out of the way.
12:47Let's go.
12:48Let's go.
12:48Let's go.
12:48Let's go.
12:49Let's go.
12:49Let's go.
12:51Let's go.
12:51Let's go.
12:51Let's go.
12:51Let's go.
12:52Let's go.
12:54Let's go.
13:00Let's go.
13:15Let's go.
13:17Let's go.
13:23Let's go.
13:55Let's go.
14:12Let's go.
14:16Let's go.
14:21Let's go.
14:24Let's go.
14:25Let's go.
14:25Let's go.
14:26Let's go.
14:28Let's go.
15:59And the bed is already lined up.
16:01I spent about an hour and a half the other night lining the bed up exactly where it
16:05needs to be.
16:05And so now I need to make some decisions around this cab.
16:08And the one thing that I didn't do on my previous bumpside diesel build, because of the width
16:13of the IDI motor and the ZF5 transmission, I ended up cutting quite a bit of that firewall
16:19and the floor out to make it fit around the transmission.
16:24And on this truck, I'm considering adjusting these body mounts to actually raise the cab
16:30up enough to where I really don't have to cut into the cab in the firewall very much, which
16:36means I may have to actually shim the bed up a half an inch to an inch.
16:39And I'm not crazy about body lifts.
16:42They're historically bad ideas, in my opinion.
16:45But because I'm moving the cab mounts around already, I could pretty easily do this and
16:52minimize how much I'm going to have to cut this cab up.
16:55And what that also does is it allows me to use factory carpet kits.
16:59Instead of having to make a carpet kit work, I can just order a regular old carpet kit and
17:05then I don't have to worry about the interior as much.
17:08But the first thing that I have to do is I have to figure out how far forward this cab
17:12has to come.
17:13So that's kind of step one.
17:14So I'm going to lift the cab up about another inch and a half or two inches and get it
17:18sitting
17:19on the floor jacks the way that I want it sitting.
17:21And then I'm going to roll the frame back under the cab a little bit more and just figure
17:27out what it's going to take and frankly how high that cab will have to sit to miss the
17:34NV4500 transmission and the transfer case and to get as close to the back of that Cummins
17:39engine as it needs to to get the front fenders to line up.
17:43So that's what I'm going to do the rest of the day.
18:01I think at some point I'm going to take the time to build some adjustable floor jacks that
18:05are designed specifically for these body swaps because I'm sure I'm going to do another
18:09one in the future.
18:43This is either the third or the fourth Cummins swap that I've done in the last 25 years but
18:49I've mentioned this in previous videos but the very first Cummins swap that I did I technically
18:54bought a project from somebody else that they had started and it's so common for guys to
18:59start projects like this and then give up at some point along the way because it's just
19:04a lot of work.
19:05So the more I do these kind of projects the more I want to refine the process so it doesn't
19:10take me so long to get them done.
19:11The previous bumpside build took me pretty close to two years to get finished.
19:36second step is to put it in place.
19:36So I'm going to make sure that I've stayed in that process.
19:38I'm going to wait for a few years to get them out.
19:38I'm going to fill in that process because of the weight of weight and the weight of weight
19:38that you need to be probably just to get adjusted.
19:39It's too much to put a couple places on the main campus.
19:43I've had a couple places where you can find out the studio.
19:43I'm going to fill in that process.
19:45I'll fill up the tray in this process.
19:52I'm going to fill in the pot that I'm going to fill in the pot with the water.
19:55I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to run the patina that's on the truck or if I'm actually
20:00going to go through the process of sanding it down and prepping the metal and painting it the way that
20:05I want to. I love old patina trucks and I would prefer to do that but this one's pretty far
20:10gone.
20:50So far this truck isn't fighting me a whole lot.
20:53It's almost as if it's looking forward to its new life on the Super Duty chassis.
20:58I personally love the contrast of an old truck like this that's on a newer chassis because it'll be the
21:04best of both worlds where it'll look cool but it should still function well.
21:39Okay so what that measurement tells me is I'm going to have to take 8 inches out of the frame.
21:46The gap is supposed to be an inch and 3 eighths gap and I have 9 and 3 eighths basically
21:539 and 3 eighths inch gap so I have to find 8 inches to take out of the frame which
21:58I think I can do right behind the cab and that should bring everything together to where you can't tell
22:06that it's a Super Duty frame underneath this truck.
22:09So there's my first challenge.
22:35I have the bed sitting exactly where it's supposed to sit and I wanted to pull a string line and
22:40using the body
22:41line on the side of the truck just to try and figure out how much I'm going to have to
22:45lower the cab and the front clip down to get everything to line up right.
22:58So this is the problem with a project like this.
23:02I have spent the last probably two and a half hours going over measurements getting everything sitting exactly where it's
23:12supposed to be so I can make sure how much of the frame I'm going to have to cut out.
23:17And unfortunately that doesn't make very good content me walking around the truck pulling measurements but what I have now
23:23gotten figured out is basically the cab is in the right place it just needs to go down at least
23:30an inch and I have one cross member that's in the way that's hitting the transfer case.
23:37And what I'm going to do is get in there and I've got two options I could try and figure
23:42out how to lower that transfer case which I've considered because I've got plenty of room around the back of
23:48the engine.
23:48But the transmission is sitting up high enough the mount that I'm using for the transmission I could probably lower
23:55that mount an inch and accomplish what I need to.
24:00And again I'm pulling measurements I'm working around the truck I'm trying to make sure that once I start the
24:06serious stuff welding the body mounts in place things like that that I don't make any mistakes.
24:11I don't want to make any mistakes on this truck and it just doesn't make great content that's my point
24:16and so I'm going to turn the camera back off I'm going to continue to pull measurements and make sure
24:22that everything that I see is correct.
24:25And at the moment I can see that if I lower that transmission mount an inch I think I'll have
24:32enough space to where I can lower the cab down lower the front clip down and I may not have
24:38to do anything with the firewall or the floor.
24:40And that's kind of what I'm what I'm aiming at.
24:43I've got everything hanging over the the wheel wells exactly where it's supposed to be front the back seven and
24:49a quarter inches is what I'm going to have to take out of that frame.
24:52And I can see the space right behind the back of the cab I can see the spot where there's
24:57room to do it but what I want to do is get the cab and the front clip sitting on
25:02the mount sitting on the the body mounts and then make sure that the line the body line is exactly
25:08where it's supposed to be before I start cutting anything.
25:11So again I'm going to turn the camera back off for a little bit and I'm going to take a
25:15hard look at that at that transmission mount and see if I need to cut something out of that I
25:22can I can modify the floor on the cab or I can lower that transmission mount so I need to
25:28do a little bit of thinking to figure this out.
25:30Okay this is the transmission cross member out of that super duty frame but this is for an automatic transmission
25:37and I'm not sure how much that matters.
25:39I had to modify these holes here to get to fit that NV 4500 anyway but what I want to
25:46do is do the opposite of what it's doing instead of going up an inch I want it to go
25:52an inch below the plane.
25:54So I'm going to use my angle grinder to see if I can cut everything correctly and then I'm going
25:59to weld it back together.
26:09I decided rather than getting into the floor of the cab I would simply try and lower the transfer case
26:15down by modifying the cross member.
26:18It seems like the best way to approach this.
26:38There's a lot of torque and a lot of stress that's going to be transferred to this cross member so
26:42I've got to make sure to weld it up properly.
27:06There's a lot of torque and coercion now that can be basically完成 the wall mimicking the cross.
27:47I
27:49I
27:51This welder actually welds pretty good for an old welder once it warms up so I'll use this welder to
27:56weld up the cross member and I will also use this welder to weld up the frame when the time
28:00comes.
28:18This cross member modification should ultimately save a whole bunch of time.
