Former India captain and cricket commentator Sunil Gavaskar shared his insights following India's historic run chase of over 400 runs against the West Indies. Gavaskar lauded the Indian batting display, reserving high praise for Shubman Gill, observing, "The world, I think, is, is his oyster. He can, he can go on to break just about every record there is if he carries on in this manner." Addressing Rohit Sharma's prospects for the 2027 World Cup after a century, Gavaskar dismissed doubts, stating questions should not be asked about such an unselfish cricketer. He also downplayed bowling concerns, noting that pitches in South Africa will offer much more assistance to bowlers.

00:00400 has been chased for the very first time by this Indian team.
00:06What did you make of this entire chase that you witnessed at the stadium?
00:13Outstanding. It's a very, very memorable performance by the Indian batters.
00:18The Indian bowlers didn't have a good time because the pitch was such a good pitch to bat.
00:22And with the West Indies scoring 400 plus runs, their batters also batted well.
00:27Amir Jango in particular, Campbell when he opened the batting,
00:32and then Hope, the skipper, playing a captain, Denise.
00:35And then that was followed by the Indians playing some unbelievable cricket.
00:41The batting of both the teams was out of this world.
00:44Not the best time to be a bowler on a pitch as flat as this.
00:48But still, the batters have to capitalize.
00:50And the way they capitalize, more than 800 runs being scored in a game
00:55just tells you the quality of the batting.
00:58Sahih Bhai, because we were talking about Shubhman Gill,
01:02you know, is now just second on that list of most double hundreds.
01:08He's also, if I'm not mistaken, the number one ranked player in ODI cricket.
01:13Clearly, he's making this ODI format his own.
01:21Well, I mean, we all know how good he is.
01:24We've been seeing him in all formats of the game.
01:27In the IPL he scores, in the T20 he scores at a brisk grade,
01:31and at the one-day internationals.
01:34He's been absolutely superb, as well as in the test matches.
01:37And what you see about him is, you know, the grace that comes with it.
01:42Even when he locks the ball for a six, it seems so graceful.
01:46There doesn't seem to be a hammer to it.
01:48And that is why, that is what makes it even more enjoyable.
01:52And the thing about his batting is his assessment of the situation,
01:56his assessment and understanding of the bowler's strengths and weaknesses.
02:01His awareness of the field placing, that is absolutely outstanding,
02:07absolutely outstanding for a young batter like him.
02:10And the world, I think, is his oyster.
02:14He can go on to break just about every record there is,
02:17if he carries on in this manner.
02:19Rohit Sharma, you know, gets that 100.
02:21There were a bit of murmurs about the chances of him playing that 2027 World Cup.
02:27What does this 100 do to those chances?
02:32It does absolutely no harm at all.
02:35Because, in fact, the questions have been asked by people who really shouldn't be asking such questions.
02:41He scored 100 in England at Lord's as well.
02:45So we all know, look, the way he's been batting, we all know from the 2023 World Cup,
02:49totally unselfish cricketer.
02:51He wants to get the Indian team off to a flying start.
02:54And therefore, he will take chances, try and capitalize on the field restriction in the first 10 overs.
02:59And in that, he will get out.
03:01But he gets the team off to a flying start.
03:03And then if he can carry on like we've seen him at Lord's in England and over here,
03:09then he will get a big 100 and a big partnership.
03:11And which will mean that India can chase any total or can total more than 350 every time.
03:19So are you worried then with the bowlers ahead of the ODI World Cup?
03:23I mean, we're just, what, about a year away from the ODI World Cup with the kind of formal...
03:28The bunch of bowlers, are you happy with them?
03:34Not to worry.
03:35Not to worry because the pitches in South Africa will definitely be a lot more helpful for the bowlers.
03:44That's for sure.
03:45And for the quicker bowlers.
03:46We have Gumra, of course, and then who we are going to pick as his partner.
03:50That is going to be the key over the remainder of the ODIs before the team is selected.
03:55So clearly, I think that's something that will have to be worked out.
03:59But I don't think the pitches will be as good to bat on, as flat for the bowlers in South
04:06Africa.
04:06There will be something in it for the bowlers, both quick as well as the spinners.
