00:00Brian, I'm curious where you land on this.
00:03Like, is it three games in?
00:05I can tell you what the numbers are, what the ranks are.
00:09Is three games into a season enough to judge a football team?
00:14Like, is the Houston defense god-awful like the ranks suggest right now,
00:1729th in points allowed, 32nd in yards allowed, dead last?
00:20Or is it too small of a sample and they happen to go up against two juggernaut offenses?
00:24It's not too small of a sample to start to figure stuff out
00:27because you may see some things, some trends.
00:30But what Parcells say, what your record is, right?
00:34Yeah.
00:34So when you look at a team that came into the season with the hype of the Houston Texans defense,
00:42what do you think?
00:43Are they what they were?
00:45Are they struggling right now?
00:46Totally.
00:47You look at both of these teams.
00:48Like, I think when people looked at the schedule,
00:50Washington is right where people thought they would be.
00:52Yeah.
00:53You know, if they could end up getting 2-2 and come out of this 2-2,
00:56they are probably ahead of where a lot of people thought they would be.
00:58And, dude, you just wonder if they could have gotten the win in Philly.
01:01Yeah.
01:01And that's still there.
01:02I think that, but, you know, you can say it's too early.
01:09You can say it's not too early.
01:11But judgment is going to start coming if you're not playing up to par.
01:14Certainly.
01:15J.J. Stankiewicz, lead writer for Colts.com, just joined us.
01:19And I asked J.J. specifically some matchups this week where he thinks Washington has an advantage
01:24and where Indy has an advantage.
01:27I really like Josh Downs against Mikey Sainer still.
01:30Josh Downs is an absolute menace out of the slot.
01:34There aren't many slot corners who can guard him.
01:37And I think he's got a shot to pick up some chunk plays on, like, a slot fade.
01:44You know, you get into that, like, orange area, you know, first and 10 from the 30.
01:48I think you might see, you know, some action to Downs going toward the end zone there,
01:52maybe on a post, maybe on a slot fade.
01:55And then one that worries me is just, like, it's the unknown factor of David Blau,
02:03who I think very highly of.
02:04Obviously, he's a Purdue guy.
02:05We get a lot of love for him around Indy.
02:09I think it's just that it's that unknown factor of what is he going to do with Marcus Mariota
02:13with a full week to prepare for this Colts defense.
02:18Well, I'll ask you this question, though.
02:19Could it not be Mikey on Downs?
02:21Because they talked about putting on the outside Rasul and also Moreau.
02:26Amik can be that guy on the inside.
02:29And I think if Amik's the guy on the inside,
02:32I think that that little mindset he has right there changes.
02:35Or if it's even Amik on the outside with Rasul.
02:38Somebody else.
02:39Listen, Mikey matched up.
02:43I'm not trying to be harsh or critical here.
02:45Mikey matched up against just about anybody right now is a problem.
02:48So, Josh Downs, highly capable player.
02:52But you do still have Amik Robertson, who played so well last week.
02:56Yeah.
02:57And I think, was it you, Jeff, who sent the thing out,
03:00which shows the person who's given up the most touchdowns or passes this year?
03:05Yep.
03:06It's our guy.
03:07Four.
03:08Leading the way.
03:09So, but I just think that even with that being said,
03:14Mikey or Amik or Rasul or whoever,
03:18the defensive pressure has to pick up.
03:20For sure.
03:20And if they can get home, move Daniel,
03:24moving Daniel off his spot is way different than moving Pat off his spot.
03:30For sure.
03:31Pat still can make the throw.
03:32I don't know if Daniel still can.
03:33Let's hit these phones, 800-636-1067, 800-636-1067.
03:39What's a matchup you like?
03:40What's one you're worried about for Sunday?
03:41Let's start with Byron in San Antonio.
03:45What's up, baby?
03:46Good day.
03:47Chip, chip, cheerio, and all that kind of good stuff.
03:51Cheerio.
03:53The matchup I'm looking for is Sonny Stiles against the running back.
03:57I think that's going to be a real good matchup.
03:59And the other one is going to be either Kay Medrano or Frankie Luton
04:05spying on Daniel Jones to make sure that we can keep him contained in the pocket
04:10and not kill us.
04:12The bonus one is I think we get our first five-yard field goal
04:16because we are going to be playing in the stadium,
04:19and I think our field goal kick has found his rhythm.
04:22So, I think he's going to boot a 65-yarder this weekend.
04:25Y'all have a good one.
04:2665.
04:27Damn.
04:28Now, they have had one over 55.
04:30I mean, Stevens hit one last week, 57.
04:34That 57 was good from where?
04:3665.
04:36Uh-huh.
04:37Now, the problem with lining up for a 65-yarder is if you miss it,
04:40they get the ball where you kicked it from, not the line of scrimmage.
04:44It's going to be a little late, though, Jay.
04:45It's going to be like late in the game and win it.
04:47Ooh, you calling your shot, B?
04:49Nah.
04:50If you called a 65-yard field goal to win it, it would be pretty juicy.
04:53We called out a shot yesterday.
04:54That's true.
04:54I missed it.
04:55So, I want to keep the phone lines going.
04:58800-636-1067.
05:00My guy Telly is in D.C.
05:01Telly, what's up, bro?
05:03What's a matchup you like, Tell?
05:05Hell to the Redskins.
05:06D-Mitch.
05:07What's the team, Pete?
05:08What's the problem, man?
05:09What's up, man?
05:11Hey, look, bro.
05:12When you talk about matchups, man, I'm looking at the man in the mirror, man.
05:17There's no better competition in matchups than ourselves.
05:20So, I'm looking for consistency of what we did the week prior.
05:26I mean, you know, I was giving a lot of news the first two weeks of bad decisions in my
05:35eyes, but I give them all props off the last game.
05:38I think that was a great game plan.
05:40And even though they didn't have real estate while running the ball, they stuck to the run.
05:46And if they can capitalize on that and continue that same method and develop that to be their way of
05:55playing football, I think there's no one that can stop us but ourselves.
06:02So, I'm looking at our team as the matchup that we need to look at.
06:08Hell to the Redskins.
06:09Hell to the Redskins, huh?
06:10All right, bro.
06:11And, you know, I can go along with what I'll tell you saying right there because think about all of
06:16those procedural and pre-snap penalties that caused us to be in a position we were in.
06:21Sure.
06:22We don't have those things.
06:23We win the game easily.
06:24It doesn't have to be a struggle at the end.
06:27Yeah.
06:28I mean, think about last week.
06:29If Antonio Williams steps up, that's another touchdown.
06:31That's what I'm talking about.
06:33Two players I have tremendous concern of in this game on each side of the ball for Indy.
06:39Tyler Warren is as talented as a tight end, maybe not the Brock Bowers division, but anybody else in football.
06:46Warren has been really good, and Washington has really struggled with tight ends.
06:50They've given up six touchdowns to tight ends through three games.
06:53Warren comes into this game as their leading pass catcher, 18 catches.
06:59You know, I don't necessarily really fear the Indy edges, the receivers.
07:06Down's a good player, but he's more of a slot guy.
07:07But for Warren in the red zone, I think, could be really problematic.
07:13And then DeForest Buckner, man, is a ball player.
07:17He is a force on the inside.
07:19We know you're not going to have Cosme this week.
07:21I think there's some real question.
07:24Like, we know it's going to be Coleman and Paul, and we know it's going to be Connerly on the
07:28right side.
07:29I'm not sure what those two other interior pieces are going to be.
07:33Lucas Patrick was in the walking boot.
07:35You saw Matt Goulbin at guard.
07:37We've seen a little bit of that this week.
07:39Like, is there a chance that it's Patrick and Goulbin and not Allegretti?
07:44Is there a chance it's Allegretti at center and Goulbin at guard?
07:47Is there a chance that it's Patrick at center, Allegretti at guard?
07:50Why wouldn't Allegretti be in?
07:53We've seen some different looks this week.
07:56Do you think it would be Patrick and Allegretti?
07:58That's what I expect.
08:01Look, offensive linemen have a different mindset.
08:03Buckner's a player, man.
08:04Yeah.
08:04I hear you.
08:05He's a player, but the thing about it is, coming off injury, too.
08:11Test him.
08:12Let's see what he's about.
08:14Yeah, I mean, I also think there's a lot of players I think will be in advantageous situations.
08:21Now, you do have Sauce Gardner and Charverius Ward on the outsides, right?
08:25Those are two, at various times, elite-level corners.
08:29But the way Washington can line up Diggs and Williams, whether it's out of motion or on the interior, I
08:37think is an advantage for Washington.
08:39And then whatever you might get from Chigakonkwo, I think is a big advantage for Washington.
08:43Just another real pass-catching option.
08:45Yeah.
08:46Like he said, he was worried about the linebackers.
08:51He finished that thing up by saying he's worried about the front seven.
08:55Which means Buckner, as good as he is, is not the whole damn D-line.
08:59Agreed.
09:01So, that's a double team.
09:02The other guys, you should be able to play one-on-one.
09:07Let's see what they're about.
09:08Yeah, I wonder if we've gotten the final injury report yet this week.
09:11I don't think we have.
09:13But Indy's dealing with their own stuff.
09:15I'm curious, I'm trying to pull it real quick, where the latest on C.J. Allen, that rookie linebacker that
09:23they were so excited about for Indy.
09:25C.J. Allen, it doesn't appear, is on.
09:28This is last week.
09:30That's not going to help me, knowing what Seattle listed last week.
09:33Here we go.
09:35Trying to track this down.
09:37Charverius Ward was limited on Wednesday.
09:40Mo Alley-Cox, who's been really good for Indy.
09:42A lot of people love him from his VCU days.
09:44I always think of A.J. Attai yelling at me.
09:47A.J., love him.
09:47Love that dude.
09:49Mo Alley-Cox didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday.
09:51We'll have to wait and see what his participation is today.
09:55Jonathan Taylor was on the injury report.
09:57For what?
09:58They said it was just rest.
09:59He was a full participant on Thursday.
10:02Now, they've flown overseas last night.
10:04They just got here today.
10:05I wouldn't be surprised, but that's a pretty light practice look for them.
10:09Nobody go anywhere.
10:10Phone lines are open.
10:11800-636-1067.
10:13Maryland Governor Wes Moore will join us at 12-15 to make his weekly NFL picks.
