00:08hey friends today we're going to crochet these adorable little canvas totes and they are the
00:15perfect little shopping totes for your ummy groomy dolls or if you are a trader joe's fan and love
00:21their totes you can make one too as a cute keychain for your purse or bag and this is a
00:28very quick
00:29easy and no sew project that you will surely want to make on repeat so that you can get them
00:34in all
00:34the colors if you prefer written patterns i do have one available for download check the link in
00:40the description box below it's on my ravelry payhub etsy shops all my pattern shops um and it is an
00:47ad-free printable pdf pattern with photo references to guide you through and um if you work through
00:54this video tutorial and enjoy and want to support me as a pattern designer i'd really appreciate if
00:59you can get the pdf download for this project you really don't need much i am using a bulky weight
01:09five chanel velvet yarn it creates a really plush looking bag and you're welcome to use a different
01:16type of yarn and um i would say this bag would look great with cotton or acrylic yarns as well
01:22now make sure you use a hook size that um goes with your yarn and um with this bulky weight
01:31five yarn
01:32i'm using a seven millimeter crochet hook the goal is to make your stitches um tight enough so that um
01:40you
01:40don't have big gaps between them but they don't have to be as tight as your amigurumi dolls so um
01:46i
01:47normally use a size five millimeter to crochet amigurumi dolls with this type of yarn and um i am
01:54i went up a couple hook sizes so it could be a little bit more relaxed but as you can
02:00see it's still hard to
02:01see the gaps between and other than your hook in your yarn you will need a pair of scissors
02:08and um optionally um to weave in your loose ends you can use a tiny hook i'm using a 2
02:15.75 millimeter
02:16and this is only to weave in the ends you can also choose to opt for a yarn needle to
02:23do that
02:30we're going to begin with 10 chains and to start your chain you're going to need a slip knot
02:36so curl the yarn around your hook like so yarn over and pull through for that slip knot
02:44let's tighten it and now let's begin our 10 chains
02:49one two three four five six seven eight nine and ten
02:59after you make your 10 chains we're going to start round one
03:02by crocheting in the second chain from the hook so starting in that second chain insert your hook
03:09and we're going to single crochet eight across working only in the back loops of those chains
03:15so that's one single crochet insert your hook into the next loop two single crochets
03:22three single crochets three single crochets four five six oops
03:39seven
03:43and eight
03:49you'll have one chain remaining on the chain 10 that you started with and in that last chain you're
03:57going to insert three single crochets all in that same chain so that's one going back into the same chain
04:05two into the same chain three
04:10now that you've done that you are curling you're going to work on the other side of the chain
04:17and um i like to take that starting yarn tail and kind of weave it in as i work along
04:23so you can do that as well or you can weave it in um with a yarn needle later but
04:28i find this to be
04:29the easiest most efficient method so insert your hook into that next chain you're going to take
04:36that yarn tail and pull it over your hook we're going to chain seven uh excuse me single crochet seven
04:46across one single crochet go into the next stitch two single crochets going to the next stitch again holding
04:56onto that yarn tail to hide it three single crochets four single crochets
05:07five single crochets
05:10and at this point my yarn tail is too tiny so i'm gonna let it go
05:16six single crochets and seven single crochets and in that very last stitch we're just going to insert
05:24two single crochets in the same stitch one and two
05:32what you should have at the end is a nice long oval shape that's going to serve as the base
05:38of your bag
05:40at this point you can insert a um stitch marker if you'd like to kind of see where your start
05:48and end of
05:48the round is i'm just using a yarn scrap and so if you're cheap and lazy like me these work
05:55absolutely
05:56fantastic all right putting it there between my first stitch for round two i'm going to start round
06:03two with an increase so putting two single crochets in the same stitch
06:10then we're going to single crochet seven across like so one two three four five six and seven
06:25and then we're going to increase in the next stitch
06:31single crochet in the next and increase in the last stitch
06:40now on the other side of our um oval we're going to single crochet seven across
06:47one two three four five six and seven then we're going to increase in the next stitch
07:04and single crochet in the very last stitch
07:08at the end there we're going to um now move on to round number three for round three to round
07:15four
07:16all you're going to do is just single crochet around and i'm going to move my yarn marker up to
07:22round three here so we're just going to insert one stitch one single crochet in each stitch around
07:30no increasing no decreasing and since it's pretty straightforward we're going to go ahead and meet
07:38at the end of round four
07:43here is a look at round number four complete as you can see here from where we placed the marker
07:49for
07:50round three here's three going around and round four so now for round five we're going to switch colors
07:58into the color we want to use for the height of the bag i'm going to be using a white
08:04and instead of
08:08continuing on in that same color i'm going to make a clean color change by pulling out the last yarn
08:15over
08:17for the previous stitch
08:21and we're going to yarn over and pull through with the new color
08:28like so and now let's go ahead and work in the new color so in that next stitch i'm going
08:35to make a
08:36single crochet
08:39and i like to pull the yarn tails from um the both colors together as i crochet along for the
08:48first few
08:48stitches of this round because it will be able to um kind of tuck these yarn tails in without me
08:54having to
08:55manually sew and weave them in at the end now for round five we're going to simply single crochet around
09:03inserting one single crochet in each stitch
09:07as you can see i'm holding those yarn tails along crocheting them directly into these stitches
09:14and um after a few you can go ahead and fasten off
09:24and let's continue in just the white here
09:31now we're going to repeat round five until um we finish round ten
09:40so all the way up till then we're simply going to single crochet around
09:45let's go ahead and meet back at the end of round ten
09:51here is a look at round number ten complete
09:55so coming counting up from the rounds it's rounds five six seven eight nine and ten
10:03and now um to finish you can fasten off with a bit of a tail and we're going to use
10:08it to weave in the ends
10:15and you can go ahead and use a yarn needle for that
10:18or if you are lazy like me you can simply use your hook to weave it in for a few
10:24stitches
10:34so we have the bag complete now we're going to go ahead and work on the straps
10:42for the straps we're going to start off by marking the placement and i'm using just some yarn scraps
10:49here to mark the placement you're welcome to use um a stitch marker or something cuter but i'm going
10:56to um basically now count and make sure there are seven stitches in the center between the two straps
11:03so um and what you're going to find is there's going to be five stitches on both sides between the
11:10two
11:10straps let me quickly bring this one over to show so as you can count here there's one two three
11:17four
11:17five stitches between the straps in here between um one strap is one two three four five six and seven
11:31and again five here one two three four five and on this side seven across the front one two three
11:41four
11:41five six and seven now to do so you um can kind of guesstimate first um i'm counting kind of
11:52from this
11:52corner here um i'll count a couple rounds over and i'm gonna kind of guesstimate here let's see how
12:00it looks if i count seven stitches over so one two three four five six seven
12:11and let's see if that looks centered
12:22it looks about right to me so what i'll do now is count five stitches over
12:28from where i marked it one two three four five and so this would begin the next uh strap
12:39and again this is going to have seven stitches in the center so one two three four five six seven
12:54and let's see how that looks it seems about centered to me again if you need to adjust your location
13:03and go
13:04a stitch over or stitch over the other way you can go ahead and do that otherwise we will keep
13:11our scraps
13:13yarn scraps locked in place and let's go ahead and grab the um first color we use which is for
13:21the base of
13:22the bag we're gonna use that same color to crochet the straps and to begin we're going to look at
13:30the um
13:31where we marked the uh straps for the the very side i like to start from the right hand side
13:41so here and i'm gonna go down see where the line is and we're gonna start from between round four
13:49and round
13:50five so here is that stitch between round four and five you see the color change
13:58and it's aligned with where we have our stitch marker we're going to surface slip stitch across
14:06until we get to the marker then make the strap attach our yarn to the other side and surface slip
14:12stitch across
14:15let me demonstrate that so pull yarn through like this make a chain to begin
14:26insert your hook under the next stitch you're moving up the rounds yarn over and pull through
14:37insert hook under the next stitch yarn over and pull through for a slip stitch
14:45again working up yarn over and pull through
14:55yarn over and pull through
15:05and now at the very upper edge we're going to do that again round over and pull through
15:12so we have this nice neat uh surface slip stitch going across our work
15:17and um now it's time to crochet the first strap for the strap we are going to make a long
15:25chain of
15:2818 chains and you can do more or fewer if you would prefer but here are my 18
15:36one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven oops gotta pull my yarn back
15:50okay 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 all right and now we're going to
16:03find the other end where we marked our bag and making sure you're not twisting your chain here
16:13we don't want it all twisted for the strap so there we go and now i'm going to insert my
16:22hook under the
16:23stitch that i marked and i'm going to yarn over and pull through for that slip stitch
16:35i'm going to yarn over and pull through
16:36like so
16:36like so and we're going to continue surface slip stitching all the way down to the color change
16:43stitch going into that next stitch yarn over oops
16:52yarn over and pull through
16:57yarn over and pull through
17:15and when you've reached the very end all you'll have to do is fasten off with a bit of a
17:24tail for
17:24weaving in later
17:35and if you pull out that stitch marker or sorry not stitch marker but i'm pulling out
17:41my yarn scrap here if you pull that out you'll see that your tote looks nice and
17:48neat and you'll be ready to kind of weave in these ends and start on the other side and again
17:56the other
17:57side is going to be crocheted the exact same way you're going to pull yarn through and find where
18:05it lines up with that stitch marker and you're going to crochet the strap
18:12repeating the same steps as you did for the first one
18:16so i'll kind of go through this one faster so you can take a look at how it's done in
18:23case you need a
18:24refresher
18:45so
19:14i can take a look at the other side of the pad were some usually so i'll just wear this
19:15though
20:25And when you're done, you're simply going to weave in all those ends.
20:28I like using a smaller hook to pull the yarn through, and pushing it inside out to do this
20:44part will be a lot easier.
20:54Since I do like securing my ends tightly, I like to pull the yarn tail through to another
21:04yarn tail so that I can actually knot it together.
21:11I feel that if I can knot it together, it will stay a lot better than just leaving it loose.
21:18So you're welcome to do this as well.
21:24And let's triple knot that.
21:27Alright.
21:37Let's trim off these here.
21:42And again, I like to take the...let's see, this one is much longer.
21:46I'm just going to pull the longer one through to meet the shorter one.
21:58And the small hook is really, really handy.
22:01I don't prefer using yarn needles, especially with plush yarn because it tends to be difficult
22:09to thread through, and it can possibly break easily using a yarn needle.
22:17So using a crochet hook is just the quickest and easiest method in my opinion.
22:34And finally, this last one here, I'm going to kind of...I think I'll weave it in through
22:43a couple extra stitches here.
22:59And that's that for the little tote bag.
23:03Here is the yucky wrong side version of it, which you get to see in all its glory.
23:09So let's flip it around to the proper side.
23:24And it's the perfect mini size for a keychain or for your amigurumi doll.
23:30And as you can see, it was so fast and easy to work up.
23:34I hope you really enjoyed making this with me today.
23:37Happy crocheting!
23:39Bye now!
