00:08Hi friends! Welcome to my video tutorial here on how to crochet this adorable little mushroom
00:14pouch. As you can see, it has a cute little top and bottom and a strap that you can hang
00:21around
00:21your neck, and you can use this to collect some tiny treasures in the forest. You can pull up
00:27the top and it'll reveal the opening of your bag, which you can put whatever you need for your
00:34daily essentials. It's great for holding some mints or chapstick, lipstick, hand sanitizer, etc.
00:43You can just pull the top closed and you've got your little pouch tucked away. And this project is
00:55really fun to customize. If you'd like to, you can check out my other video tutorial on how to
01:01crochet these tiny little flowers. They're super quick, easy, and you can embroider a lot of fun
01:08details on your mushroom pouch. For the materials, all you'll need is some medium weight yarn. I'm
01:18using this 100% cotton yarn here. It's Hobby Friends Cotton 8 slash 8, and cotton yarn helps so that
01:25your
01:26project doesn't scratch out of shape. With this yarn, I'm using a four millimeter crochet hook. You'll also
01:36need a yarn needle and scissors.
01:45Let's start crocheting the mushroom top. Use pink yarn or whatever color you want for this section.
01:51We're going to do a chain to start. So we're going to begin with that slip knot and then put
01:59in 11 chains.
02:001, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. Then you're going to insert two single crochets
02:14in the second chain
02:15from your hook. So not this first one, but the next one here. Let me go ahead and insert two
02:23single crochets.
02:25That's 1, and 2, and then you're going to single crochet 8, which will bring you across the chain
02:39and leave the last one unworked. Moving ahead, I'm going to do those eight single crochets. So that's 1,
02:471, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. After you single crochet 8 across,
03:16you're going to insert three single crochets in that very last chain. So when you do three together,
03:25and that's 1, 2, and 3, you're basically going to be now on the other side of the chain.
03:38So we're going to work on this other side of the chain. It brings you around.
03:45Here's what you have so far. We're going to single crochet 9 across.
03:541, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,
04:181, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9.
04:29And that's the very last stitch in the round.
04:32You've just finished round number one. You should have this little, this long oval shape.
04:39And we're going to now continue on round two.
04:44When you go into round two, what you can do is add a stitch marker to hold or to mark
04:50your place
04:51for the beginning of each round. If you are cheap and lazy like me,
04:55you can opt for a yarn scrap instead of a stitch marker. So I'm just throwing my scrap in here
05:03at the very front of my round. And I'm going to insert my hook into the very first
05:10single crochet that I made in round one. And I'm going to have to wiggle my hook in there.
05:17All right. That's the very first single crochet. And that first single crochet, I'm simply going to
05:23increase. So that means put two single crochets in the same stitch.
05:31Like so. And then single crochet 10 across. That's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,
05:599, and 10.
06:04And then in the next stitch, we're going to increase again,
06:11putting two single crochets in the same stitch. And then we're going to single crochet 10 for the
06:18rest of the round. That's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,
06:327, 8,
06:389, and 10.
06:43Now, as you can see, you'll come back to that stitch marker where you have the start of your
06:50round. So you know that you've got your stitch count correct. And you're making a larger oval.
06:58And for the next few rounds, you're just going to follow these instructions of basically increasing
07:06two times in each round. And we're trying to do the increases right at the very tail ends of our
07:15oval.
07:16So an increase on this side and an increase on that side.
07:20Here are the instructions for rounds three, all the way to rounds 10. And you'll see that you are
07:30increasing steadily with several rounds of just single crocheting around. So we're going to meet back at
07:39the end of round 10.
07:43Here is round 10 complete. If you haven't done so already, you can flip the top inside out so that
07:51the wrong side faces in and the right side faces out. At this point, you'll notice that you might be,
07:59well, not might be, but you are going to finish the round somewhere on the
08:08the front of the panel, but you're going to want to single crochet until you reach the very side.
08:15So after you finish round 10, you're just going to add a few more single crochets till you get to
08:21the
08:21very end of that oval oval shape. So for me, I'm going to add one, two, three, and it looks
08:31like four
08:32single crochets gets me to the side. And what you'll do after you add a few more stitches is slip
08:42stitch in
08:43that next stitch. And you're going to fasten off with a bit of a tail which you're going to use
08:52for
08:52weaving in. So you'll want to finish off at the very side of your piece. And let me pull out
09:02my yarn
09:03marker here. So that's that for the very top of your mushroom bag.
09:14Now let's start crocheting the bottom of your pouch. For the bottom, I'm using beige yarn.
09:20Feel free to use whatever color you'd like. And round one is done exactly the same as the top.
09:28So start with your slip knot and then chain 11. That's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,
09:3810, and 11.
09:40And then you're going to insert two single crochets in that second chain from your hook.
09:47So here I'm putting in one and two single crochets. Then you're going to single crochet eight all the way
09:55across. So let's do that. That's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,
10:176, 7, and 8. And at the very end, that last stitch, you're going to insert three single crochets.
10:28That's 1, 2, and 3. And remember when you insert those three single crochets, it's going to kind of
10:38turn around and you're going to be able to work along the other side of the chain.
10:45And now we're going to single crochet nine across. So work into each of those chains on that other side.
10:53that's 1 chain, 2, 3 single crochets,
11:104, 5,
11:156,
11:207,
11:248,
11:27and 9.
11:30And once you finish those, you are done with round one of the bottom.
11:36We're now going to move on to round number two.
11:48Now for round three all the way to round 16, you're simply going to single crochet all the way around.
11:56No increasing, no decreasing. You're just going to put one single crochet in each stitch.
12:04And work your way around like so.
12:09What we'll do is we'll meet back after round 16 is complete.
12:18Here is a look at the pouch with round 16 complete.
12:22As you can see, it is much longer. If you haven't already, turn your pouch inside out so that the
12:29right side with the little V parts of the stitches face out while the wrong side is in.
12:37At this point, you can remove your stitch marker if you'd like.
12:41And what you'll do is you're going to make a few more single crochets until you reach the very
12:46side of your pouch. So I'm going to just add a few stitches here.
12:52Make sure you fold your piece flat to find out where the side of your pouch is.
12:56So I'm going to add one, two, three, and four stitches.
13:04And once you get to the very side, you're going to slip stitch in that next stitch.
13:13And without fastening off,
13:16we're now going to continue with making the straps for your bag.
13:24So for the straps, and this is going to be easily adjustable,
13:28I'm going to chain 100 chains. You can do more, you can do fewer, but just keep chaining until you
13:37reach the desired length of your straps. Let me go ahead and chain 100 now.
13:58Here's my big long chain. I ended up chaining 120 because I wanted to make it a little longer.
14:05And again, feel free to do any amount of chains you want.
14:10For me, I'm making sure that it's long enough so that it fits comfortably
14:14over an adult's neck and will drape down to their torso area, their upper torso.
14:22So once you are happy with your chain, you're going to fasten off with a bit of a tail
14:29or with a long tail, and you're going to be using that long tail to sew later.
14:35So you're going to weave it in through the top of your mushroom pouch first before you sew it down.
14:53And now it's time to combine the top and the bottom together.
14:58What you'll do is you're going to get the top of your piece and you're going to find where you
15:04made
15:04those three single crochets at the ends of your piece.
15:09So you'll notice that there's going to be a larger hole at the two ends.
15:15And that's going to be where you pull the chain through.
15:20So going into one of the ends, I'm going to pull the chain through using a crochet hook here.
15:34And you'll see that go over like so.
15:38And try not to have your chain twisted here as you do this next part.
15:44All right.
15:46And I'm going to now insert my hook into that next hole or the second hole here.
15:54And I'm going to pull that strap through.
15:59Once more.
16:05Hmm.
16:10Is that the right one? I think so. Okay.
16:14Let me try that again.
16:16My chain was a little bit thick. Let's try and pull it through.
16:23Oh, it's because I was holding on to the other end.
16:26Okay. Sorry about that.
16:28All right.
16:28So now I can pull that chain through.
16:33And as you can see,
16:35your mushroom top is now going to be connected to the bottom piece.
16:41And you can go ahead and take a yarn needle and sew the straps down to the other side of
16:50the mushroom pouch's bottom.
16:53And then we're going to go ahead and sew the straps down to the other side of the strap.
17:10Multiple stitches will also strengthen the strap.
17:16So I'm going through this a few times.
17:21So I'm going through this a few times.
17:41Once you have the ends woven in, your mushroom pouch will be complete.
17:46You can go ahead and pull the top down over the bottom piece.
17:52And hide the opening of your mushroom pouch.
17:58What's really awesome is that you can add some embellishments to your pouch if you'd like.
18:04You can put on little flowers, buttons, bees, whatever you are happy with for decorating your mushroom pouch.
18:13Here is one I made with flowers.
18:16As you can see, you can add on different colored flowers in embroider, leaves, and stems to it.
18:23It makes for a very lovely cottage core style piece.
18:28You can also turn this into a house if you'd like.
18:32So I can imagine this looking like a cute little roof and house.
18:37And you can put on felt or fabric to make little windows and doors.
18:45If you would like to crochet the little flowers, be sure to check out my tiny flower applique tutorial.
