Learn how to crochet the Sapphire Love Shawl with a simple triangle scarf pattern that is quick, easy, and beginner-friendly. The tutorial walks through the magic loop, chain stitches, and repeating half double crochet sections so you can build the shawl row by row with confidence.

After the first few rows, the pattern becomes repetitive and relaxing, making it a great project for on-the-go crochet or a calm evening craft session. The shape grows by working back and forth, with the triangle tip formed by a special chain space repeat, and you can make the shawl as large or as small as you like.

This crochet shawl tutorial is ideal for beginners looking for an easy triangle scarf, a relaxing crochet pattern, or a step-by-step guide to half double crochet shaping. It also works well for anyone searching for a free crochet shawl pattern, simple lace-style wrap, or a portable handmade project.

00:08First, make a magic loop, like so. In the loop, you're going to chain three. One, two, three.
00:25Then, insert two half double crochets in the side. One, two. Now, chain two. One, two. Two half double crochets
00:47again. One, two.
00:56Then, a chain, and then one half double crochet, like so. When you're finished with row one, pull the loop
01:12together from the magic circle to tighten it.
01:21Now, what you're going to do is turn your piece. So, I'm turning it like so. We started like this.
01:34Now, I'm going to turn it around.
01:35And you're going to chain three to start. One, two, three. Now, in that first chain one space, as you
01:47can see here,
01:48you're going to insert two half double crochets. One, and two.
02:03Next, chain one. And in the next space, this is the chain two space, you're going to insert two half
02:13double crochets.
02:24chain two, and then insert two more half double crochets in that same chain two space.
02:48After that, chain one, and then that next chain one space, or actually, it's a chain three space here.
02:57But in this space, you're going to add two half double crochets. One, and two.
03:09Chain one. And then in this, you're going to add one half double crochet on the top of the chain,
03:18the third chain, from the previous row.
03:21So, here's one, two, and three is up here. You might have to pull a little bit to see it.
03:29So, I'm going to insert my hook. Oops.
03:40Like so. And finish off my half double crochet.
03:46Now, you're going to turn the piece again. Turn it. And then chain three. One, two, three.
03:56In the first chain one space, right here, insert two half double crochets. One, two.
04:10In the next, what you do next is chain one. And in the next space, insert two half double crochets
04:20again.
04:22One, and two. Chain one. And now you've come to that big chain two space. This is what's going to
04:33go down the middle.
04:35What you put here is going to be two half double crochets, one chain, and two more half double crochets.
04:43So, let's get started. Two half double crochets.
04:54And then chain, sorry, I meant chain two. Chain two. And then two half double crochets in that same chain
05:03two space.
05:07This is going to be the tip of your triangle. You can kind of see it come to form here.
05:14Like so.
05:16This tip will always have two half double crochets, two chains, and two more half double crochets.
05:24And at the beginning, or at both sides of the triangle, you'll mostly be doing two half double crochets in
05:34the chain one space.
05:37Just note that when you get to the very end, like with the chain threes at the end, you're going
05:43to put two half double crochets, one chain, and then a half double crochet in that very, that third chain
05:52from the previous row.
05:54So, let's finish up this row. Chain. We did two half double crochets. I'm going to chain one. Next is
06:04my chain one space. So, I'm going to add two half double crochets.
06:14Chain one. There's my chain three space here. I'm going to add two half double crochets. Chain one. And at
06:29the very end, insert a half double crochet at the third chain from the hook.
06:34I'm going to have to pull these stitches up a little to see it. So, here's one, two, and three
06:40up here. Insert my hook.
06:46Finish off my half double crochet. And that finishes off the row. So, I'm going to keep working back and
06:58forth and back and forth.
07:02Turning the piece each time as I work. I will do one more row so that you get the pattern
07:09of how this goes. And then you'll be making this repetitively. You're just going to follow instructions for this.
07:18Over and over and over until you feel that your shawl or your triangular scarf is large enough to your
07:29liking.
07:30So, here, to start the new row, I'm going to turn. Chain three to begin.
07:43In that first space, chain one space, insert two half double crochets. One and two.
07:56Chain one. In the next chain one space, insert two half double crochets. Chain one. In the chain one space,
08:13remember, add two half double crochets. Chain one.
08:21And now we've come to that chain two space. Remember, it's at that tip of the triangle. So, it's a
08:30little special. We're going to be adding two half double crochets, then two chains, and then two more half double
08:40crochets.
08:47And that completes the tip of that triangle. Then chain one. And in these chain one spaces, add two half
08:59double crochets each. So, one and two.
09:05Chain one, add two half double crochets. One and two. Chain one. Add two half double crochets at the very
09:21end with these three chains.
09:31And then you're going to chain one. And put one half double crochet at the third chain from, at the
09:42third chain from that last row of three chains. So, right here at the tip. Oops, tip top.
09:53There we go. There we go. And there you have it. Here is a mini triangle. Stretch it out a
10:02little bit. My mini triangle so far.
10:06Again, you're going to work this pattern back and forth following the written pattern instructions. That's on my website. So,
10:17be sure to check that out. It's in the description box below.
10:20And if you have any questions, feel free to let me know. Thank you so much. And have a fun
10:27time crocheting. Bye now.
10:29Bye now.
10:30Bye now.
10:32Bye now.
10:32Bye now.
10:59Bye now.
