00:00By what Jacob Rees-Mogg is saying,
00:03you could have, let's say, just out of principle,
00:05obviously this isn't realistic,
00:07but 50 million Indians come to Britain,
00:10all get given a passport, all like queuing,
00:13all like eating fish and chips, adopt the British values,
00:16which, again, is a very Blairite idea,
00:18and they would just be English.
00:19Well, obviously, if you spoke to any man in the street,
00:21they would turn around and say that's entirely ludicrous.
00:24Yeah, and so would most of those Indians as well.
00:26Yeah, well, this is the thing.
00:27You know, if I went over to India
00:29and I had a child in India with an English woman,
00:32there's not one Indian that would look at my child
00:34and say, my child is Indian.
00:36It's just a basic understanding of lineage and ancestry.
00:39And what I think makes you part of a nation
00:41is about what is passed down to you generation to generation
00:44from at least one parent.
00:46So, you know, both my parents' ancestry,
00:48and, of course, mine and my grandparents' ancestry,
00:50goes back over 1,000 years in this country.
00:53My surname is Toms.
00:54That is, as far back as we can tell,
00:57a, you know, kind of Celtic Welsh Cornish.
00:59You know, I have a deep, rich ancestry in this country
01:02that I have inherited,
01:03and you can't just turn up and then claim to be English
01:05because you adopt some values.
01:07But he did...
