00:00Well, the suspect has been identified as Omani national Hammam al-Hamami,
00:04who prosecutors in the United Arab Emirates now say used a crash axe,
00:09which is kept in the cockpit for emergencies, to attack his captain,
00:13Sumit Mat-Shar, before sending the plane into a nosedive with 182 people on board.
00:19Despite Israel concluding the co-pilot underwent radical Islamist indoctrination,
00:24UAE investigators have yet to confirm this, saying they're still starting to establish
00:28the full circumstances, motives and any links related to the incident,
00:32including whether he was a lone wolf or had a connection to extremist groups.
00:37Al-Hamami had reportedly already been banned from flying in his home country
00:42over fears he'd adopted extremist views.
00:44There are questions, too, for the UK's Buckinghamshire New University,
00:49who he completed an aviation management course with in 2023 via distance education.
00:54The university's stressing he didn't undertake any pilot training there,
00:59both the US and Israel, promising swift and punishing retribution
01:03if there were any individuals or organisations that sponsored his failed hijacking.
