'MAG-ISYU TAYO NG WARNING SA SPOKESPERSON NATIN'

Senator-judge Raffy Tulfo called on the impeachment court on Monday, Oct. 5, to admonish Senate Spokesperson Atty. Reginald Tongol over what he described as his repeated failure to properly fulfill his responsibilities as court spokesperson.

During his manifestation, Tulfo cited Tongol’s previous statement during a press briefing that the final verdict in Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial would be issued on Dec. 6. Presiding Officer Francis “Chiz” Escudero clarified that the statement was not entirely accurate, saying the court’s actions should be based only on the pre-trial order.

Tulfo reiterated that Tongol should be warned over statements concerning the trial, saying the spokesperson appeared to know more about the proceedings than the senator-judges themselves. (Video courtesy of Senate of the Philippines)

00:01I remember, nag-issue kayo ng warning dati sa spokesperson ng prosecution.
00:10In the same manner, nag-issue din kayo ng warning sa spokesperson ng defense.
00:14Now it's about time na mag-issue tayo ng warning sa sarili nating spokesperson.
00:20Why?
00:21Kasi over the weekend, marami akong mga kakilala, kaibigan, tumabag sa akin.
00:52How true is it, Mr. Besideing Officer?
00:55That is not entirely accurate, Senator Judge.
00:58So that's fake news.
01:00Yes, but that statement is not entirely accurate.
01:04Whatever statements on timetable that came out over the weekend can only be based rather on the pretrial order,
01:12which stated that the prosecution asked for 61, 62 days, I believe,
01:20and the respondent asked for 30 trial dates.
01:24If you put that computation and apply it accordingly,
01:27then you will look at the timetable depending on whether or not we have canceled trials,
01:33as we did last week.
01:34We had two canceled trials.
01:36So that is just simply based on the calendar contained in the pretrial order.
01:41But the court, at this point in time, let it be placed on record and let it be known.
01:46It's based on math, not based on the realities on the ground of the trial.
01:50It may be a working mathematical equation, but certainly not based on reality,
01:57much less is that the point of view of the court.
02:00The court will instruct the spokesperson accordingly.
02:03Yeah, maybe it's about time na para i-admonish niya siya, Mr. President Officer,
02:09kasi this is not the first time.
02:24kumaga inuunahan niya tayo, piniprimp niya tayo.
02:27Thank you, Senator Judge Rafi.
02:28We will take it in advisement and shall act accordingly based on the Senator Judge's manifestation this morning.
