BYD is moving deeper into Europe’s heavy-duty truck market with the new ETT 44 — a 44-tonne battery-electric tractor designed for long-haul freight.

Its headline numbers are serious: a 651 kWh Blade Battery, up to around 600 km of claimed range, roughly 1,000 hp, and charging power of up to 1.5 MW.

But the most important number may be 20 minutes.

BYD says the ETT 44 can charge from 20% to 80% in roughly 20 minutes, adding around 400 km of driving range. For commercial trucking, where downtime directly affects productivity, that could matter more than outright power.

In this video, we look at how the BYD ETT 44 compares with the European Tesla Semi, what its five-star Euro NCAP rating actually means, and why megawatt charging could become one of the most important technologies in long-haul electric freight.
