10 Best Used Mercedes Models That Are Secretly Bulletproof After Warranty
The most reliable used Mercedes to own after warranty are often not the newest ones. These 10 used Mercedes-Benz models pair engines and gearboxes that are under-stressed or long since debugged, and for each one we give the engine code, real recent prices and the one check that decides it.
Covered: Mercedes-Benz 300D Turbodiesel (W123), 300E (W124), 560SEL (W126), 560SL (R107), E350 (W212), GLK350 (X204), 190E 2.6 (W201), SLK230 Kompressor (R170), CLK500 (C209) and E300 Turbodiesel (W210), plus the G500 (W463) as the honorable mention. The engines run from the OM617 turbodiesel and the M103 inline six to the M117 and M113 V8s and the M276 V6.
Cheap is not the same as good: rust, a leaking transmission plug or a stretched timing chain can wipe out the savings, so get a pre-purchase inspection from a Mercedes specialist. For buyers who want a used Mercedes that lasts, not one that only looks the part.
