00:00There is a lot of debate going on right now.
00:03How you've been, you follow baseball a long time here.
00:07What are your thoughts on asking a guy, no matter how good,
00:11to do something he's never done before?
00:14Mason Miller has never had a two-inning save in his, not this year,
00:20didn't really matter much with the athletics either.
00:24Are you okay with asking a guy to go out there
00:28and do something that you just never asked him to do all year
00:32or his career, are you okay with that?
00:36I think I am because I would have to go back
00:39and check the stats on that.
00:42I'm not doubting that, but I'm going to guess, Joe,
00:45that I thought even in Miami he pitched an inning and a third.
00:48So I'm guessing that he has done that.
00:50Is that fair to say?
00:51I think he's done an inning and a third or an inning and two-thirds.
00:54He just has not gone two full ends.
00:55He's never done two.
00:56Yeah, so I guess I would just throw it back to you by saying,
01:00is there that much of a difference?
01:03I mean, I don't know.
01:05If he had never come into a game, gotten a couple outs,
01:10sat down, and then come back in again,
01:12like Mariano Rivera, who almost never did it, right?
01:15I don't think at the end, like the last five years of his career,
01:18I think Moe never came in except for one inning.
01:19They wouldn't bring him in.
01:21Maybe there's something to that.
01:23I talked to you about Josh Hader, who for his final years in Milwaukee would not come in and pitch
01:28two innings.
01:28For his last two years would only pitch one inning with the Milwaukee Brewers.
01:31So, look, I think that the Padres, that was their series, potentially?
01:38Like, that was it?
01:39Like, you think, okay, if we don't win this game, no matter what, even if we win in San Diego,
01:44what are the odds of us coming back to Milwaukee and winning in game five?
01:47So, the answer is, yes, I'm okay with it.
01:50But I would tell you that had Miller never sat down and got back up before,
01:54I think I would question it, yes, at that point.
01:57But he's definitely done that.
01:59I think he did it in Miami.
02:00He went one, two, three in the eighth.
02:01So, it wasn't like he went one, two, three in the eighth.
02:05So, it wasn't like he struggled in the eighth.
02:07And there was – so, there was nobody else in the bullpen.
02:11They were never going anyplace else.
02:13The minute they brought him into the eighth, he was pitching the ninth, and that was it.
02:18Michael King, I got to give – I got to give the guy credit, man.
02:22I did not see – I mean, that – what did he throw?
02:26No hitter for seven innings there.
02:28The first go-round.
02:29And then he goes out and gives them everything he had yesterday.
02:34I mean, obviously, he was slowing down.
02:37Velocity was down.
02:38I think he gave up three straight hits with two outs in the fifth inning.
02:42So, that was – then he came out in the sixth inning, and it was like, all right, we've gone
02:47as far as we can go here.
02:49The problem, I think, all of this stemmed back into how many of their high-leverage arms, Craig, they had
02:55to use in game one.
02:57Because they had to use everybody in game one when Robbie Ray only gave him two and two-thirds.
03:04Right.
03:04So, yeah, the other thing, too, Joe, I don't know if you saw some of this happening during the game.
03:09And I wasn't paying attention a lot of times during the game.
03:12I don't notice.
03:12And then people post on social media.
03:14It sure felt like they were stealing the signs with Miller at the end of that game.
03:18Like, I don't know if you saw Freelich.
03:20Does it matter?
03:20Freelich going to –
03:21If I'm throwing 104, Craig.
03:23No, the slider.
03:24Slider.
03:25Yeah, no.
03:26Oh, the – I mean –
03:30Man, it's tough.
03:31It really is in that spot, even if I know what's coming.
03:35No, not a fastball.
03:36But then again, the Astros won a World Series by how many times I hit the trash can.
03:40So, I guess maybe there is something –
03:43Look, that's not the reason why – that's not the reason why Milwaukee won.
03:47No, no, it's not.
03:47I'm just saying that you get into that scenario.
03:49Mason Miller is going to be different with a guy on second doing this.
03:53Yes, he is.
03:53As opposed to nobody on.
03:54Good point.
03:55Yep.
03:56And how do we not – that's a tell that he just got?
04:00Like, it's very strange how that even came about.
04:02It's online.
04:02You can find it.
04:03You'll see South Reeling doing this on second, right before the pitches.
