00:00You know, we had a small conversation here a little bit here.
00:03Would Al love what he's seeing right now with the Raiders in Vegas?
00:07Would he be a fan of where they are and how the relocation to Vegas has gone so far?
00:13Well, I'll share two thoughts, and they are not mutually exclusive.
00:17They're not mutually inconsistent.
00:19He would absolutely love the stadium.
00:22He would love the stadium, no question whatsoever.
00:26And he did like Las Vegas.
00:28That was a market he liked very much.
00:31Dan, as you know, we went there with large groups from time to time, celebrations there, dinners there.
00:37He liked Las Vegas.
00:38But that said, Oakland had a very, very special place in his heart.
00:43When the team was in Los Angeles and Al was considering Sacramento and considering Oakland
00:49and considering staying in Los Angeles, and I shared with him the issues that existed in the deal in Oakland,
00:56not with the market, but the deal itself, he shared with me his love for Oakland, his passion for Oakland,
01:02his love for the fans in Oakland.
01:05So, would he love Allegiant Stadium?
01:08Absolutely, positively, unequivocally.
01:10Did he like Las Vegas as a market?
01:12He did absolutely, positively, unequivocally.
01:16Would he be heartbroken for the Oakland fans?
01:18Yes, he would.
01:21Would it be fair to say that he really wanted to have the Raiders in Inglewood?
01:26Would that have been, outside of Oakland, would that have been the place that he really wanted the Raiders to
01:33be was in Inglewood?
01:35We did try very, very, very hard to put that deal together.
01:39And, you know, for a number of reasons, that didn't happen.
01:42And that's what then prompted the move.
01:44And as I said, it was, we were looking at Sacramento, we were looking at Oakland, and he shared with
01:49me that Oakland was his, he was passionate about Oakland.
01:53Well, I'll tell you this, Carolyn Goodman told me that she used to send Al Davison, you, emails all the
02:00time on trying to get the team, the mayor of Las Vegas now, who is a dear friend of mine.
02:05We were trying to get the Raiders for a long time.
02:08You have to love the fact, though, Amy, that you're seeing Super Bowls, and I wonder what Al would think.
02:13Super Bowls and national championship games are being held in the Raiders' building.
02:18That must, that would be something that I think he'd really be proud of.
02:22You're absolutely right.
02:24And the only thing I will tell you that made me sad about that building was when my Cal Bears
02:29went there last week and played UNLV and lost.
02:35So I'm still not over my Cal Bears losing in that building.
02:39But all teasing aside, because I know that has nothing to do with the building.
02:43Yeah, it's a terrific stadium, and he would be very, very pleased with it.
02:48Amy, what would you think Al would think of Roger Goodell, the current commissioner of the National Football League?
02:56Well, you know, when Roger was appointed commissioner, the league put together a committee of, I think it was six
03:05owners, to guide, to lead the selection of the next commissioner.
03:09Al was on that committee.
03:11So he was very, very, very involved in the decision to bring Roger in, to name Roger the commissioner, because
03:18he was involved.
03:19I got to be involved.
03:20And I think the league was very, very, very smart to extend Roger.
03:26I think they've been smart to extend him time after time, but I'm speaking to the most recent time.
03:32I think it was the right decision, a smart decision.
03:34And I think he would agree.
03:35Amy, don't you look back now and think when Al was fighting the league, when it came to relocation and
03:42looking for stadiums, look at the league today.
03:45Every owner is looking for new stadiums.
03:47Every owner is using, you know, the fact that, hey, we need a new stadium.
03:52Look at Errol.
03:53I wonder what Al would think.
03:55Wait a minute.
03:55The Chiefs are moving out of Arrowhead.
03:58I mean, Al and Pete Rozelle used to battle over this.
04:02And now every owner is battling for a new ballpark right now.
04:06I wonder what he would think of that.
04:08Well, Dan, I will reveal yet again the inner seven-year-old in me, because anytime anyone references the litigation,
04:18the business disputes between the league and the Raiders,
04:21I absolutely must follow up with, they started it.
04:26Mom, they started it.
04:28They sued us.
04:29And I know people think, well, Al was litigious.
04:32Al started litigation.
04:33No, we were the defendant.
04:35They started it.
04:36Now, that aside, you know, you're absolutely right.
04:39That which the league sued the Raiders about.
04:44I can't end a sentence in a preposition, Dan.
04:47The subject about which the league sued the Raiders, everybody does it now.
04:52We're seeing it in Chicago.
04:53You referenced Kansas City.
04:55Hey, people do now what Al was sued for doing.
05:01No question about it.
05:03How do you look at the league right now, Amy, and look at the money that it's making?
05:07Look at the price tag for these franchises.
05:10I think Al told me he paid $25,000 for, like, the Raiders as a franchise fee back in 1960.
05:17Is that right?
05:18Well, I don't, putting aside the number he paid because it was, to say that it was a fraction,
05:26I don't even think fraction is a big enough word.
05:29But, Dan, people ask me all the time what I perceive to be the biggest difference in the league.
05:35They're letting private equity in now.
05:36The prices are going to keep going up.
