00:02This is an incredibly tragic incident involving the death of a three-month-old infant boy and
00:09first and foremost efforts are with the young boy's family and friends during what's an
00:13unimaginably difficult time for them. So on the 1st of October a three-month-old infant was
00:22presented to an infant hospital with serious internal injuries. As a result of those injuries
00:28that infant was transferred to a Brisbane hospital where he continued to receive treatment and
00:34unfortunately despite ongoing medical treatment that young boy succumbed to his injuries yesterday
00:40afternoon. Detectives from the Ipswich Child Protection Investigation Unit along with detectives from the
00:48Child Trauma Unit continue to investigate what had occurred and as a result of that investigation
00:53a 28-year-old Ipswich man was charged with one count of murder overnight. That male appeared in the
01:02Brisbane Magistrates Court earlier today. Any death is devastating but the death involving a young and
01:11vulnerable member of the community is particularly tragic. Our detectives have worked tirelessly on
01:17this investigation since it commenced on the 1st of October and I want to acknowledge the detectives
01:24from the Child Protection Investigation Unit here at Ipswich and the Child Trauma Unit who were specialists
01:29in investigating offences involving the most vulnerable people in our community. Our thoughts are also
01:37with the hospital staff and all the other police that have been involved in this incredibly tragic event.
01:42The boy's mother is extremely upset as you can imagine and this is a terribly tragic event involving a
01:50very vulnerable young member of the community so she's struggling but we're offering her all the
01:55support that we can through this very difficult time.
