Former Braves reliever and BravesVision analyst Peter Moylan joins The Steakhouse to break down the Braves' postseason battle against the Dodgers. Moylan analyzes Ronald Acuña Jr.'s recent struggles and whether frustration or selfishness is at play, evaluates Yoshinobu Yamamoto's elite six-pitch mix, and explains how the Braves can put early pressure on Game 4 starter Tyler Glasnow. Plus, Peter gives high praise to bullpen breakout Didier Fuentes and outlines what Tyler Mahle needs to deliver on the mound.

00:00but let's focus on last night and let's focus on this gentleman not only is he a good looking man
00:05with a very cool accent but he actually well he is he is but he actually he knows baseball
00:11so that's because this is not a visual medium so none of that matters when you're doing radio
00:16right peter that's right but i'll tell you what my accent certainly carries across the world
00:21that does that that's never no woman would ever hear that voice and say i won't even give him a
00:26shot you know what i mean when you first got to the states were you just amazed at how women
00:31are
00:31like i love you in your accent yeah it was usually when i was like a simple thing like checking
00:38out
00:38of a grocery store when the the person checking me out would just want me to sit there and talk
00:42to
00:42him for 20 minutes that's hilarious yeah they like the tats and everything else as well uh he has the
00:48whole package the braves do not have the whole package the braves do not have that we're pitching
00:53three straight bullpen games and have survived we are scratching and clawing with some of the guys
00:58that we're inserting in the lineup and then you look across and there are the dodgers immaculate
01:04buttoned up five starters the whole deal doesn't mean we can't win but i think you're seeing uh talk
01:11about the disparity between these two teams even in the first three games it just it just points to
01:17the starting pitching depth that they have and you know even the guys that they have in the bullpen
01:20with sasaki who can come up and start whenever they need to but this is the reason why they went
01:25out and got so many starters in the offseason and then traded for scoogle because the dodgers have a
01:30blank check and they want to go out and make sure they have enough depth to get through playoff series
01:34i think we uh we punched them in the mouthing game two yesterday we had everything lined up unfortunately
01:40they were able to put together some really good at bats early on sale and drive his pitch count up
01:45and
01:45get him out of the game and but our bullpen did their job again so this has been the playoffs
01:50of the
01:50bullpen so far but i need the bats to show up today for us to do anything peter moore and
01:55braise
01:55vision covers the brace for many years with us on sports radio 92.9 the game i don't think you've
02:00been on social yet um but we're not only are we on that we're hearing it on the radio ronald
02:06is
02:06catching it um you know a challenge in the first inning that affects the olsen at bat later it seems
02:14like an incredibly selfish move magnified by the fact he's not hitting magnified by the fact he
02:19couldn't play right field or didn't want him there take us through is it a selfish act should
02:25he be told by walt weiss that can't go anymore and just talk a little ronald for us in general
02:31the difference between selfish and intensity is what his intent was and we didn't know we'll never know
02:37what the intent was i know ronald really well i've known him since he's an 18 year old kid and
02:41i know
02:41he just wants to be the best on the field every single time when it's not going that way there's
02:47a
02:47degree of frustration that comes across him because he knows he's one of the best players on
02:51the planet so selfish sure uh frustrating i'm i guess but um you know i know that's what came
02:59through or went through matt's head in that in that uh when they had the chance to challenge in
03:04that bat and we never know what could have happened after that he gets on first base and and maybe
03:08we
03:09didn't do a double play so his say is is obviously great but i just think ronald's mood is is
03:15very
03:16heavily swayed on the way that he performs on the field because he knows that there's so much
03:19pressure on him right now too pressure's fair i mean this is the postseason you know we magnify the
03:26numbers and i'm not talking a small sample size you know freddie's got 18 homers and kiki has 17
03:31because they absolutely their game goes to the next level ronald has not shown that his game goes to the
03:38next level the bigger the moment we ground out lester in the biggest at bat of the game so it
03:44almost
03:44sounds like the pressure is not a good thing for ronald because he wants it so bad and maybe he
03:51can't get that heart rate where it needs to be to have that moment yeah but we also need to
03:55look at
03:56other guys besides ronald you can't have one person carrying this team it's easy to point at ronald right
04:00now but when you look up and down that lineup everybody struggled yesterday and everybody
04:04when the offense struggles it's not like one person has a day off when this team's going good
04:09we don't need nine guys firing we just need a couple of guys firing at the same time
04:13and we can get the job done i i know that everybody wants to put pressure on ronald and i
04:17understand
04:18why uh but at the same time there's other guys there's nine other guys in that lineup that can
04:22do the job as well yeah not good at bats but i don't know i'm i'm sure you're amazed at
04:29the stuff
04:29yamamoto has i was lucky enough to sit behind the fairly close to home plate i mean dude this guy
04:36is and you talk about postseason numbers this dude has got everything going at once talk about
04:42him and how good i mean i thought scoobal was dominant but this was another level i don't think
04:48i've ever seen a more polished pitcher as far as you know when you look at him he's he's 5
04:5410 175
04:55pounds unassuming not intimidating at all and then he gets into his windup and it's like holy cow this guy
05:02he has so many weapons he has six pitches five of them are elite and the fifth one is i
05:09mean this
05:09the sixth one is is good enough to get you out but he just locates so well with two different
05:15kinds of
05:15fastballs he's got a split finger that just disappears off the table he can throw a slower
05:20curveball breaking ball to get you off that he's got a slider that he can mix in at any point
05:24and he
05:25just doesn't seem to miss locations i think i counted maybe six or seven missed pitches yesterday as far as
05:31location goes and five of them were on one pitch so he sort of eliminated the cut fastball later in
05:36the game and just went to his other weapons but he just makes it so tough because he doesn't just
05:41work
05:41the corners he works nine different quadrants if he wants to throw the ball in the bottom left hand
05:47corner he can if he wants to then go top up up underneath someone's armpits he can he just pitches
05:52with a purpose he very rarely like i said makes any mistakes that allows any guys to get comfortable
05:58you didn't see many a swings from from a lot of the guys yesterday at all no um he just
06:03kept
06:04your patterns but today's a different story glas now has the stuff but he's not he doesn't have the
06:08polish and i think today's a chance for us to really put pressure on him early on he can spray
06:13the ball
06:13around a little bit he can walk you uh if we can get runners on i need some intensity from
06:17these guys i
06:18saw the padres last night in elimination game come out with some fire they had to face milwaukee and they
06:23they had to grind through they they tied it up they they got ahead and they just kept babbling all
06:28the way through that game i need that kind of intensity from these guys tonight from the first
06:32pitch yeah yeah i mean everybody's in the top step of the dugout i was noticing dodges and braves from
06:37the very first pitch but there is something about you you know there's going to be a switch that makes
06:44you a little psycho tonight because they have got to be frustrated offensively by the way combine the
06:49teams are one for 29 in the series with runners in scoring position one for 29 combined the dodgers
06:56and braves it's not like they're lighting it up they've you know chris sale got out of a bunch of
07:01jams um we're not getting that hit either uh so the law of averages you know back of the baseball
07:07card don't lie somebody's getting some hits in in clutch situations tonight i hope it's us and i just
07:13needed to be early on like i just need the pressure to be taken off take it off mally take
07:17it off
07:17everybody score some you know put up a crooked number in the first inning and and keep adding
07:22on inning after inning just keep putting pressure on even last night there was a specific about in
07:27the padres game where merrill got on with two outs yeah instantly stole second machado with a clutch
07:32base hit through the left side and they manufacture a run with two outs in the span of about five
07:37pitches that's the kind of pressure i want to see our guys putting on on the dodgers because you know
07:42that's what it's going to take it's going to take not perfect baseball but near perfect baseball for
07:47us to be able to beat these guys next to peter i wondered your opinion on the whole raker and
07:52didier
07:52fuentes the unlikely heroes and just especially a guy in that bullpen of how unique and extraordinary
07:58this really is uh did he has has just taken so many leaps this year uh the development throughout
08:06the course of the year watching him turn into what he has become during the postseason and
08:12scratch all that the fact that he had a rough start to this postseason giving up a couple of runs
08:17and
08:17then being able to bounce back in the last wildcard game and then come out against la and throw three
08:22and two thirds that's just unheard of but that's what you need when you have two starters you need
08:27somebody in the bullpen to step up but even if you look at the other games who have had prepared
08:32starting pitches some of them have gone two and two and a third three innings and they've had to go
08:37heavy bullpen use anyway so you know it's one thing to have all these starters lined up it's another
08:42thing to get performances from them but as far as the bullpen's concerned they have done everything
08:46that's been asked for them and it's gonna it's gonna take more from them moving forward if we're
08:50gonna have some success in this round and the next peter moylan with us on sports radio 92.9 the
08:55game
08:55guys driving around atlanta right now they all kind of know the stat he's the number one trade deadline
09:01starter that has been obtained and alex grabbed him with a lot of other bigger names but as a guy
09:07that understands pitching what is tyler malley's gifts that he has shown over the last few months
09:13and what can we expect if he's going well what will we see from him tonight location location location
09:20if he's locating he's forcing fastball especially early on this game it makes the split finger and the
09:25cutter so much better we've seen him be able to work through lineups with just two pitches
09:31pitches so if two of those pitches are working two out of three are working today he can be dominant
09:35but he's got to work the edges he's got to be able to work the corners and he can't leave
09:38too much over
09:39the middle that was the biggest mistake or the biggest issue with chris sale yesterday the stuff
09:43was fine but the misses were just more middle and the biggest difference between misses middle and
09:49misses on the corner is those shots through this through the left side those those ground balls through
09:53the left side that end up getting through rather than being easy ground balls to third base or shortstop
09:57because they've been able to put more barrel on it because it's obviously missed middle rather than
10:01corner great stuff uh peter remind everybody when you guys are on and why you guys are doing so much
10:08great post-game stuff as well five o'clock today one hour preview show leading up to the game
10:15obviously we're going to be on braze vision channel but we've got an hour with me bg and nick green
10:19breaking it all down what to expect we've uh we haven't been very good with our predictions so far
10:24but we're getting to that best that's for sure yeah y'all are so entertaining i mean i think it's
10:29all brave i speak for all braves fans one second after that final pitch and i'm moving over to
10:33braze visions for you guys it's just really been something special but we love you sandra you know
10:38that hey uh i walked by you last night i mean you are literally in a fishbowl with those thousands
10:43of
10:43people has there been anything has anything ever gone crooked in the last couple of years with you
10:49guys in the middle of that i was thinking about it last night with thousands of frustrated fans and a
10:54lot
10:54are early drinking and whatnot but they got you pretty you know they got security there but
10:58you're right in a fishbowl yeah look that's how we love it especially after good games bad games can
11:03get a little chirpy out there but growing up in australia on the australia football field i've
11:07been preparing for this my whole life so if anybody was to come on try to give it a crack
11:12and jump past
11:13security i'll be ready for that as well but uh no they're braze fans are great obviously i get
11:17frustrated just like they do so i understand the frustration and i just get to wear it but uh hopefully
11:23after
11:23tonight's victory they'll be very happy and then they can go break some hearts in la
11:27thank you buddy peter moyland the best in the business as uh we move on sports radio 92.9 obviously
11:33tonight right after the game we will deliver a post-game show that uh either will be lamenting that
11:40we really only had two starters for the playoffs or saying why not us yeah in la because if you're
11:47frustrated or celebratory that 404-726-0929 there was nothing better than the the fly over the other
11:53night after that falcons win i mean it doesn't get any better so let's hope we're celebrating tonight
11:58take it to game five in la stranger things have happened
