00:00The heat wave is not over yet in Southern California and the Southwest, but there is relief in sight, and
00:05a game-changer is in view for the weekend.
00:08A strong cold front associated with a big trough sets in.
00:12Some of you in the Northwest are going to cool down 20 to 30 degrees between a warm Friday and
00:18a much cooler Saturday,
00:19and this system is going to bring rain and even some mountain snow.
00:23For some, it'll be the first snow of the season.
00:24The snow is going to pile up. If you're above 4,000 feet elevation, you can expect to see at
00:29least half a foot of snow, if not more, in parts of Montana.
00:33Some parts of Wyoming and Idaho will also see plowable snow this weekend.
00:38Into the Southwest, we're not only just going to get cooler, but we're going to get very wet, even in
00:43Southern California, with two tropical systems from the East Pacific.
00:47Both are now named.
00:49Hurricane Rachel's been with us for a while, and newly named Tropical Storm Simon became named late this Wednesday.
00:56Rachel will come into Northwest Mexico, bringing some very heavy rain to some areas like Western Arizona,
01:02with four-plus inches in some of the Southern Rockies, areas around the Western Grand Canyon and southwestern parts of
01:08Utah.
01:09Then Simon, the newly named Tropical Storm, will become a hurricane and then bring heavy rain into Western Mexico.
01:14That also sends some heavy rain into parts of New Mexico.
01:17Thank you very much.
