The Tampa Bay Rays ended the New York Yankees’ season with a dramatic 4-3 victory, completing a three-game sweep in the ALDS.

The Yankees appeared to have found a huge breakthrough in the sixth inning when Anthony Volpe launched a deep ball toward left field with a runner on base. The hit initially looked like a game-tying two-run homer, sending the Yankee Stadium crowd into celebration.

However, the excitement quickly disappeared after officials reviewed the play and determined that a spectator had reached over the wall and interfered with the ball. Volpe was ultimately awarded an RBI double instead of a home run, leaving New York trailing 4-3.

The Rays’ bullpen then took control and protected the narrow lead. Closer Bryan Baker delivered the final outs, striking out Trent Grisham to officially send Tampa Bay into the next round.

Max Fried surrendered four runs for New York, including two home runs. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay’s timely hitting and strong pitching proved decisive.

The Rays now await their ALCS opponent as their postseason journey continues.
