00:01Birmingham's bin strike could be nearing an end after 21 months, as council leaders say a resolution is very close.
00:08Councillor Roger Harmer, the Liberal Democrat leader of Birmingham City Council, says the authority is awaiting final advice from its
00:16external auditors before making a final decision.
00:19The dispute with Unite the Union centres on the loss of the waste recycling and collection officer role.
00:25Striking workers have argued that they face a pay cut of £8,000.
00:31The previous Labour administration said that a fair offer had been made.
00:36Harmer says any proposed settlement will be assessed for risks and sustainability before going to Cabinet and Unite.
