00:00James Gunn has a message for anyone asking,
00:02who asked for a Clayface movie?
00:04Basically, that's not how movies work.
00:06Tickets just went on sale for DC Studios' Clayface,
00:09a body horror swing centered on one of Batman's more deep-cut villains.
00:13And when one person on threads asked,
00:15who the F asked for a Clayface movie,
00:17Gunn came ready with receipts.
00:19He fired back.
00:20Who the F asked for Back to the Future?
00:22Casablanca.
00:23There's something about Mary.
00:24Pan's Labyrinth.
00:25Fury Road.
00:26Weapons.
00:26The Matrix.
00:27Gunn's point?
00:28Hollywood shouldn't just be a popularity contest for IP we've already seen a million times.
00:32Clayface follows Matt Hagen,
00:34a Hollywood leading man who turns to a cutting-edge treatment after being horribly disfigured.
00:38The procedure is causing troubling physical changes.
00:43Are you okay?
00:45And Gunn says that's exactly what excited him about the project.
00:48He said the filmmakers took a relatively little-known fictional character
00:51and used him as inspiration to create what Gunn believes is a very special story.
00:55And he didn't stop there.
00:56Gunn said he'd take that kind of creative swing a thousand times over,
00:59a writer chasing a paycheck with a popular character they have no real passion for.
01:03And to be fair, Gunn has some receipts here, too.
01:06Taking characters most moviegoers barely knew
01:08and turning them into blockbuster favorites is kind of his thing.
01:11See?
01:11Guardians of the Galaxy.
01:12So, did anyone ask for a Clayface movie?
01:15Maybe not.
01:15But according to James Gunn,
01:17that's exactly the point.
01:18Clayface is theaters October 23rd.
