00:00The two solid rocket boosters are the real powerhouses at launch. Each of these boosters
00:05is made up of five segments. And yes, this hardware actually has a real Apollo and shuttle history.
00:12The boosters are directly based on the Space Shuttle's solid rocket boosters. However,
00:17they are longer, stronger and have an additional segment. A single booster delivers over 1630
00:24tons of thrust and, once ignited, burns relentlessly for about two minutes before it is jettisoned
00:31and falls into the sea. But unlike the shuttle, they are no longer recovered. Instead, they are
00:37left to sink. The solid fuel consists of an aluminum-ammonium-perchlorate mixture.
00:42Together, the two boosters provide the majority of the thrust during the launch phase.
