01:00She's never shared her story
01:01because not everyone can relate to being married to a serial killer.
01:14Put a finger down if you were married at 17,
01:17divorced by 25,
01:19and then five years later the FBI showed up at your door
01:22to find out that your first husband was a serial killer.
01:25He was actually murdering people before you were married
01:28and throughout your entire marriage.
01:33I literally just came across her TikTok videos wild.
01:37It is so interesting.
01:38He was killing people the whole time they was married.
01:54I had to hold the truth about who he was
02:00until now.
02:06Back in 2002, the FBI showed up at my door.
02:11The first thing that they said was,
02:13your ex-husband, Richard Mark Yvonneitz,
02:17is a serial killer.
02:19Yeah.
02:19New evidence uncovered linked Richard Mark Yvonneitz
02:23to the murders of at least three teenage girls.
02:26Yvonneitz said to a family member
02:28that he cannot remember how many murders he's been involved in.
02:32It was shocking.
02:33How could I not have known
02:35that I was sleeping next to this man for eight and a half years?
02:41A monster.
02:44Authorities believe he may have continued offending undetected,
02:48if not for the escape of a 15-year-old girl
02:50who was held captive for 18 hours.
02:53She escaped while he was sleeping
02:55and directed the authorities back to his apartment.
03:00This girl is one badass.
03:02The girl that Bonnie's talking about in this video,
03:05it's me.
03:31As long as I was still there,
03:33I'm sure.
03:47June 24th, 2002,
03:49I was a normal 15-year-old.
03:55I had spent the night here with my friend,
03:58and we called her mom and said,
04:01is there anything that you need us to do
04:02before we leave for the day?
04:03And she asked us to water the plants.
04:06So, while my friend was taking a shower,
04:09I had watered the plants.
04:11I didn't realize that that decision
04:13would ultimately change the course of my life.
04:22While I'm out here watering the plants,
04:24I notice a car going out of the neighborhood.
04:31A few minutes later, it comes back and pulls directly into the driveway.
04:39Fairly quickly, a man who we now know to be Richard McAvonnet gets out of the car.
04:45He walks directly over to me, and he says,
04:49hey, I have these magazines, and I would love to leave them with your parents.
04:54And I said, oh, okay, well, this is my friend's house.
04:58At that point, he takes his hand out of his pocket,
05:01comes around to the right side of my neck with a handgun.
05:05And I went, stop.
05:08And he said, no, you're going to come with me.
05:12Mark then walks me to his car.
05:15The entire back seat was filled with a gigantic plastic container.
05:20He tells me to get into the container,
05:24gets in the car,
05:27and he backed out of the driveway,
05:31and left the neighborhood.
05:41I was scared,
05:44but I think my trauma response in that moment
05:48was to pay attention to where we were going,
05:51starting down this road.
05:54I was familiar with this area,
05:55so I knew the turns that he was taking.
06:05The drive was 15 or so minutes
06:08before he pulled over off the side of the road.
06:14He took the lid off of the container,
06:17and that was when he put the ball gag in my mouth.
06:20He put handcuffs on me,
06:23and he put leg restraints on,
06:25and he told me to scream as loud as I could,
06:28which I did, and he said,
06:30okay, good.
06:31He put the lid back on the container,
06:34and then he drove another couple of minutes.
06:42My brain, my emotions,
06:45could not process what was happening to me.
06:48The emotions were too big.
06:52All of that was shut down,
06:55but my body remembers.
07:00This is the apartment complex,
07:03and Mark backed into that parking space,
07:10carried the container a short way,
07:14set it down.
07:17and then drug it
07:22over that threshold into the apartment.
07:30My recollection of what happened next
07:34are just a series of snapshots.
07:40He said,
07:42if you're good,
07:43there'll be rewards.
07:46And if you're not,
07:48there'll be punishment.
07:54And then he pulled out a legal pad,
07:57and he starts asking me questions
07:58and writing down the answers.
08:01What is my name?
08:02Where do I live?
08:03Whose house was I at?
08:04What are her parents' names?
08:07He was on a fact-gathering mission,
08:09and so was I.
08:12He was smoking cigarettes.
08:16I saw the Beanie Baby collection.
08:19That struck me as kind of odd.
08:21I did think,
08:22why does this adult man have this?
08:26I started noticing other things
08:28about the apartment,
08:29like the birds and the lizards
08:32and the guinea pigs
08:34that were all around in cages.
08:37I was determined
08:39to collect any information
08:41that I could
08:41that could later identify him.
08:45At one point,
08:47I was forced to shower.
08:52and then I remember
08:54he puts on sadistic bondage
08:57pornographic videos
08:58and wants me,
08:59a 15-year-old,
09:00to describe what I see.
09:05Mark seemed to be thriving off of.
09:07My embarrassment,
09:09pain,
09:10fear.
09:12One of the things
09:12that still causes me,
09:14even just knowing
09:15that I'm about to describe it,
09:16I can feel it
09:17kind of in my chest.
09:23He took me to the bedroom.
09:29He gave me a Valium
09:30and a great Gatorade.
09:33I don't have a super vivid memory
09:36of what happened.
09:39My survival mechanism was
09:41to separate what was happening
09:43to my body,
09:45emotionally and mentally.
09:53Ultimately,
09:54I passed out.
10:08The next morning,
10:10I was restrained next to him
10:12with furry handcuffs
10:13around both of my wrists.
10:16And there was a rope,
10:17but it went in between
10:18tied to the frame of the bed.
10:20And then I had
10:22a leg restraint
10:23on my right leg
10:25connected to another rope
10:27that was tied
10:27to the foot of the bed.
10:31I remember
10:32looking over at him.
10:34He was on the left side of me.
10:41And seeing if he was asleep.
10:47And I thought,
10:48this is it.
10:50This is the moment
10:51to escape.
10:58I was trying to unscrew
11:00that quick link
11:01and couldn't do it
11:03with my hands.
11:04And so I had to
11:05unscrew it with my teeth.
11:10And then reaching
11:11down my leg
11:13to disconnect
11:14my leg restraint.
11:19Slid out of the bed.
11:22found my shorts.
11:25Went to the front door.
11:31I just remember thinking,
11:33there's no way
11:34I can get out this door
11:36without waking him up.
11:37He's going to grab the gun
11:38on his nightstand
11:39and shoot me.
11:53somehow I was able
11:54to get out of that door
11:55in one fell swoop.
11:59And I just ran.
12:03I still had handcuffs
12:05dangling from one
12:06of my wrists.
12:08I flagged down a car
12:11held the handcuff up
12:12said,
12:13my name's Kara Robinson
12:14I was kidnapped
12:15and I escaped
12:16from that apartment.
12:17They told me
12:18get in the car
12:19get in the car
12:20and took me to
12:21the nearest
12:22sheriff's department.
12:32I couldn't look
12:33at this picture
12:34for a really long time.
12:36This is from
12:37the sexual assault exam.
12:39And the reason
12:41I couldn't look
12:42at this picture
12:43is because of my face.
12:46Because
12:48I told myself
12:50in that moment
12:51and for years
12:54afterwards
12:54that I was fine.
12:55I didn't feel traumatized
12:57and that was
12:58a story
13:00that I told myself
13:01for 15 years.
13:04But when you
13:06see my face
13:07in this picture
13:08that's not the story
13:09that's told.
13:15What you did
13:16to get away
13:17and to tell your story
13:19it represents
13:20the best of humanity
13:21in my opinion.
13:23Stan Smith
13:24was a lieutenant
13:25at the time
13:26so he was
13:26on the ground
13:27involved in
13:28the investigation
13:29of Mark
13:30in 2002.
13:32As soon as you
13:33got away
13:33he had an
13:34oh crap moment.
13:35You know
13:35he knew
13:36what was coming next.
13:38By the time
13:39the officers
13:39were executing
13:40the search warrant
13:41at his apartment
13:42he finally said
13:43woke it up
13:44and he was gone.
13:45When law enforcement
13:47were in the apartment
13:48one of the things
13:49that they found
13:49was a lopped
13:51blue footlocker.
13:53Inside
13:53were numerous things
13:55that would open up
13:56this idea
13:57that him taking me
13:58was not the first
13:59thing he had done.
14:00We recovered this
14:01during the search
14:01of the apartment.
14:02It was full of
14:03pornographic magazines
14:05sex toys
14:05handcuffs.
14:08This blue trunk
14:09became his
14:11trophy box.
14:13He kept
14:14women's underwear
14:16handwritten notes
14:17in which
14:18he had notated
14:19that he had
14:19stalked young women
14:21and then
14:22the newspaper.
14:27I have the newspaper
14:29article
14:29that was found.
14:31Having this
14:32as a souvenir
14:33was very telling.
14:35Right.
14:35when I saw
14:36this newspaper
14:37article
14:37I immediately
14:37went serial killer.
14:40It all ended
14:41for Richard Yvonne
14:42it's on a dark
14:42street in
14:43Sarasota Florida.
14:44Police
14:45pursuing him
14:46for a suspected
14:47abduction and rape
14:47in South Carolina
14:48cornered him
14:49put a gun to his
14:50head and killed
14:51himself.
14:53When I found out
14:54that he committed
14:55suicide
14:56angry doesn't
14:57even begin
14:58to encompass
14:59the way I felt
15:00because I ultimately
15:01wanted him
15:03to see me
15:03in a courtroom
15:04and to know
15:05I outsmarted him.
15:06He took the easy
15:07way out
15:07because he knew
15:08he was done for.
15:10At that point
15:11in time
15:11our focus
15:12was immediately
15:13seeing what else
15:14he had done.
15:15As the task force
15:16continued to investigate
15:18at Bonnets
15:18they received a call
15:19from the National Center
15:20for Missing and Exploited Children.
15:22The caseworker
15:23found that
15:23Bonnets had lived
15:24in Spotsylvania County
15:25in 1996
15:27and in 1997
15:28during the time
15:29of the disappearance
15:30of Sophia Silva
15:31Katie and Kristen Liz.
15:33It was about
15:35a month and a half
15:36after committing
15:37suicide in Florida
15:38that investigators
15:39were able
15:40to connect
15:41Mark
15:42with fiber
15:43DNA
15:43hair
15:44and fingerprint
15:45evidence
15:45to the abduction
15:46and homicides
15:47of Sophia Silva
15:49and the Lisk sisters.
15:55We have the newspaper
15:57here from Virginia
15:58when Mark
16:00was conclusively
16:02linked
16:02to the homicide
16:04of these three girls.
16:05It's always been
16:06my belief
16:07that Mark
16:08was responsible
16:08for more than
16:09these three homicides
16:10my own kidnapping.
16:12There's absolutely
16:12a probability
16:13that he could be involved
16:15in further crimes
16:16and I just don't think
16:17this impulse
16:18started in Virginia
16:19this could be
16:20the tip
16:20of the iceberg.
16:30In 2002
16:32I had been divorced
16:33from Mark
16:34for five years.
16:36I was remarried
16:38and had two babies.
16:41Life was just starting
16:43to become settled,
16:46you know.
16:48I remember
16:49I was at home
16:50with my boys
16:51baking a cake.
16:54I looked up
16:55and I could see
16:56that a man
16:57and a woman
16:58were walking
16:59into my driveway.
17:02I opened the door
17:04and the first thing
17:06that they said
17:06was that they were
17:08with the FBI
17:09and that I need
17:10to sit down.
17:13They told me
17:14that your ex's
17:16husband,
17:17Richard Mark
17:18Yvonne,
17:18it's his dad.
17:20He had kidnapped
17:21a 15-year-old girl
17:23in South Carolina
17:25and that
17:26she had escaped
17:28but they believed
17:29that he was
17:30a serial rapist
17:31and serial killer.
17:36It was shocking
17:39realizing that
17:40my life with him
17:42was
17:45basically a crime scene
17:47that's being investigated.
18:03This is where
18:04I first met Mark.
18:07Being back
18:08feels weird.
18:10Gosh, it's been
18:1335 years,
18:14I think,
18:15since I was here.
18:24I moved
18:25to South Carolina
18:26when I was
18:27eight years old.
18:30My mom was
18:31coming down here
18:32for her graduate program
18:34at the University
18:34of South Carolina.
18:36I didn't really
18:37want to move
18:38but we moved a lot
18:39when I was growing up.
18:41It was just me
18:42and my mom
18:42so I was used
18:43to always having
18:45to find a new
18:46group of friends.
18:50I'm looking for
18:52Jennifer's house
18:52and I'm not seeing it.
18:55Oh, there it is.
18:56That's Jennifer's
18:58old house.
19:01I met Jennifer
19:03in the sixth grade.
19:05We were classmates.
19:06We became
19:08inseparable
19:09pretty quickly.
19:11Jennifer had
19:12an older sister
19:14and an older brother.
19:16Mark was
19:17eight years older.
19:19I first met Mark
19:21when he would
19:22come home
19:23on leave
19:24from the Navy.
19:25I'd be over
19:26at Jennifer's house
19:27hanging out
19:28and I thought
19:29he was kind of cute.
19:31He was funny.
19:32He was always
19:32making me laugh.
19:34I had a crush on him.
19:36There was one day
19:37that I was over
19:38at Jennifer's house
19:40and Mark was
19:41home on leave
19:42and we were all
19:43listening to music
19:44and at one point
19:46I got up
19:46and I danced
19:47with him.
19:49I was 14
19:51at the time
19:52and he was 22.
19:56Brings back
19:56a lot of memories.
19:59Yeah.
20:06One day,
20:08Mark was home
20:08on leave
20:09and he said
20:10maybe we could go
20:10grab a bite to eat.
20:11and so
20:13we went to the mall.
20:15I hadn't really
20:16gone out on many dates
20:17or anything like that
20:18so being alone
20:19with him in the car
20:20I had butterflies
20:22and was nervous
20:23about it.
20:25He took me
20:27to the restaurant
20:27The Golden China
20:29and it felt
20:31really fancy
20:31and it felt
20:33really grown up.
20:39He had been
20:40a complete gentleman
20:41the whole night.
20:43Afterwards
20:44when he dropped
20:45me off
20:46he kissed me.
20:53He's really
20:54gentle about it
20:55and not forceful
20:57and it just felt
20:58very sweet.
21:00He let me know
21:01that he was leaving
21:02for San Diego
21:03the next day
21:04with the Navy
21:06but he promised
21:07that he would
21:07write to me
21:08and I kind of
21:09floated into the house
21:11with, you know,
21:12this, I couldn't believe
21:13what had just
21:15transpired.
21:26Mark did a lot
21:27of damage to us
21:28as a family
21:30and also
21:31other families
21:33but I just
21:34want people
21:34to understand
21:35that
21:35as well
21:37as my brother
21:38he was
21:39a serial killer.
21:49At the time
21:50of my friendship
21:51with Bonnie
21:52I don't feel
21:54like I ever
21:54shared the dark
21:55side of what
21:56was happening.
21:58We were taught
21:59to keep that
22:00private.
22:03I cannot remember
22:04a time
22:05where there
22:06wasn't abuse
22:07from my father.
22:08Our mother
22:09was in denial
22:10and she brushed
22:12it off
22:12so it was
22:14just normal
22:14for all of us.
22:16Mark received
22:17the worst
22:18of the beatings.
22:20My father
22:21hated him.
22:24Every day
22:25it was just
22:27survival.
22:34As we got older
22:35I remember
22:36that Mark
22:37had this trunk.
22:40He was very
22:41secretive about it.
22:44Mark would always
22:46keep this trunk
22:46locked up.
22:47We would make jokes.
22:49Hey what's in there?
22:51Let's pop open
22:51the trunk.
22:52And he would
22:54get kind of upset.
22:57One day
22:58my father
23:00broke in
23:00and found
23:02pornography
23:03in the trunk.
23:07There was also
23:08a carved
23:09wooden penis.
23:13It was stained
23:14with shellac.
23:15I mean
23:17he put some
23:17time into it.
23:19My father
23:21berated him
23:21about that
23:22and called
23:23him a
23:23and Mark
23:26was just
23:26hanging
23:27his head
23:27down.
23:29He wouldn't
23:30look up.
23:31He didn't
23:31say anything.
23:38After Mark
23:39left home
23:40for the Navy
23:41I remember
23:42finding a
23:43pornography tape
23:44in his room.
23:51The tape
23:52depicted a woman
23:54being bound,
23:55raped,
23:56tortured,
23:56and killed.
24:00I didn't understand
24:01if it was real
24:02or not.
24:04It was really
24:05disturbing.
24:14Mark
24:15was in
24:15San Diego
24:16for about
24:17four months.
24:18True to his
24:19word he wrote
24:20me two letters
24:21a week.
24:24He gave me
24:25a lot of
24:25attention.
24:27I was
24:2816 and a half
24:29and Mark
24:30was 24.
24:32I was
24:33infatuated
24:34with him.
24:38He came
24:39back
24:39from San Diego
24:41the end
24:42of May,
24:43the day
24:43after my
24:44prom.
24:45We went
24:46out to
24:46the same
24:47Chinese
24:47restaurant.
24:48We pulled
24:49into this
24:50parking lot
24:51and before
24:53we got out
24:53of the car
24:53he said
24:54wait a second.
24:56He pulled
24:57out the ring
24:58and said
24:59Bonnie will
24:59you marry
25:00me?
25:01I mean
25:02looking back
25:02it's wild.
25:04in that
25:05moment
25:06I really
25:06loved him
25:07and so
25:07I just
25:08said yes.
25:16I never
25:17had any
25:18inkling that
25:19Bonnie and
25:20Mark were
25:20interested in
25:21each other.
25:23When I
25:23found out
25:24they were
25:24getting married
25:25I was
25:25blindsided
25:27and Mark
25:28was kind
25:28of irritated.
25:29What's
25:30your problem?
25:31Why would
25:31you be upset
25:32about this
25:33you should
25:33be happy
25:33for me?
25:37I thought
25:38it was weird.
25:39She's 16.
25:42He didn't
25:43really seem
25:43to understand
25:44that that
25:45was an issue.
25:52This is my
25:53senior yearbook
25:54and I
25:56reserved a
25:57whole page
25:58for Mark.
26:00He wrote
26:01Dearest Bonnie
26:02I'm glad
26:03that the
26:03school year
26:04is finally
26:05over.
26:05It represents
26:06the beginning
26:07of our
26:08future.
26:10I can't
26:10wait for
26:11our wedding
26:11day.
26:12You will
26:12be a
26:12beautiful
26:13bride
26:13and I
26:14know
26:14you'll
26:14take
26:14my
26:14breath
26:15away.
26:17I love
26:18you so
26:19much.
26:20I mean
26:21he was
26:21saying
26:21everything
26:22that I
26:22wanted
26:22to hear.
26:24He was
26:25good at
26:25that.
26:26Yeah.
26:27In the
26:28beginning.
26:30Yeah.
26:34Between
26:35when we
26:36were engaged
26:37and got
26:38married
26:39I kept
26:39a calendar
26:40of that
26:41time frame.
26:43I graduated
26:45in June
26:46and then
26:48I turned
26:4817 in
26:49July.
26:51Mark
26:51called me
26:52up right
26:52around my
26:53birthday
26:53to tell
26:54me that
26:55things had
26:56shifted
26:57with his
26:58job and
26:59that if
26:59we didn't
27:00get married
27:00in August
27:01we probably
27:02wouldn't get
27:02to see
27:03each other
27:03for maybe
27:05upwards of
27:06a year.
27:07So we
27:08put the
27:09wedding together
27:09in two
27:10weeks.
27:36I think
27:37I was
27:37really
27:38nervous.
27:39there was
27:40a point
27:40when I
27:41was up
27:42there
27:42where I
27:43realized
27:44that I
27:44hadn't
27:45really
27:45thought it
27:45through.
27:52And I
27:53really
27:53wasn't
27:53sure
27:55if it
27:55was
27:55something
27:56I
27:56should
27:56be
27:56doing.
28:02But
28:03everybody
28:04talks about
28:04having cold
28:05feet.
28:06And so I
28:07thought that's
28:07probably all
28:08it is.
28:09And I
28:09sort of
28:10shook it
28:10off.
28:13And I
28:13went through
28:14with it.
28:15Acting in the
28:16authority vested
28:16in me by the
28:17laws in the
28:17state of
28:18South Carolina,
28:19I pronounce
28:20you as
28:20good
28:20quality.
28:23Getting
28:23married is
28:25just a
28:25childish
28:26fairy tale
28:27type of
28:28a thing.
28:40I can see
28:41how young
28:41I was.
28:43I look like
28:45a child.
28:51I had no idea
28:52what I was
28:53entering into.
29:08All right,
29:08TikTok,
29:09story time.
29:10When my
29:11captor,
29:12Marka Bonnet,
29:13was on the
29:13run,
29:14he had talked
29:15to his
29:15sister at
29:16some point
29:16and confessed
29:17that he'd
29:18committed crimes
29:19and that he'd
29:20done this
29:20more times
29:21than he could
29:21even remember.
29:34over the
29:35years,
29:36I have been
29:36sharing my
29:36story to
29:37people on
29:38social media.
29:39I'm a lot
29:40more than
29:41just the
29:42girl who
29:42was raped.
29:43The summer
29:44after I was
29:46kidnapped,
29:46I started
29:47working at
29:47the sheriff's
29:48department.
29:49I worked
29:50there summers
29:51through high
29:51school.
29:52through college
29:53graduated
29:54and ultimately
29:55went to
29:56the academy.
29:57I became
29:58a fully
29:59sworn deputy
30:00at Richland
30:01County Sheriff's
30:01Department.
30:02I work
30:03investigating
30:03sexual assault
30:04and child
30:05abuse spaces
30:05up until
30:06the birth
30:06of my
30:07first child
30:07and now
30:08do activism
30:09and education
30:10around what
30:10it means
30:11to be a
30:11survivor.
30:16My law
30:17enforcement
30:17and victims
30:18advocacy
30:18background
30:19led me
30:19on this
30:20journey
30:21to investigate
30:22Mark
30:22Avonis.
30:23It's my
30:24hope that
30:25we find
30:26other cases
30:26that he's
30:27tied to
30:27so we
30:28can give
30:30other families
30:30answers about
30:32what's happened
30:32to their
30:32loved ones.
30:35In preparation
30:36for this
30:37entire
30:38investigative
30:38process,
30:39one of the
30:39things that
30:40was critical
30:41to me
30:41is overviewing
30:43the evidence.
30:46evidence.
30:46So we
30:46are about
30:47to go
30:47into the
30:48Spotsylvania
30:48County Sheriff's
30:49Office.
30:50This is
30:50where all
30:51of the
30:51evidence
30:51exists
30:52on the
30:53Avonis
30:53cases.
30:54This is
30:54a gigantic
30:57evidentiary
30:57collection.
30:59From evidence
31:00that was taken
31:01from me
31:01to items
31:02that were
31:02taken
31:02from his
31:03car
31:04when he
31:04killed
31:04himself
31:04as well
31:05as evidence
31:06from the
31:07abduction
31:07and homicides
31:08of Sophia
31:09Silva
31:10and the
31:10Lisk
31:10sisters.
31:12I want
31:13to establish
31:14Mark's
31:14MO across
31:15the known
31:16cases,
31:16so it's
31:17critical to
31:18go through
31:18the evidence
31:19here.
31:20This will
31:20help provide
31:21comparisons
31:21to potential
31:22other crimes
31:23that Mark
31:23may have
31:24committed.
31:25There are
31:26some immediate
31:26and obvious
31:27similarities
31:28that I can
31:28see.
31:29We first
31:30and foremost
31:30have the
31:31profile of
31:31the victims.
31:33Mark
31:34was targeting
31:34young girls.
31:43I've just
31:44gone through
31:44the evidence
31:45that was
31:45found in
31:45Mark's
31:46blue trunk.
31:47It looks
31:48like he
31:48was conducting
31:49surveillance
31:49before choosing
31:50a victim
31:52because he
31:53actually had
31:54dozens of
31:55handwritten
31:55notes that
31:55showed him
31:56stalking
31:56young girls.
31:58He was
31:59clearly a
32:00road stalker.
32:02Another
32:03similarity is
32:03that we
32:04were all
32:04kidnapped
32:04in broad
32:05daylight
32:07and transported
32:08via car
32:08to a
32:09secondary
32:09location.
32:15Through
32:15my research
32:16I've learned
32:16that authorities
32:17actually found
32:18Kristen Lesk's
32:19fingerprints
32:20in the trunk
32:21of Mark's
32:21car.
32:24My hands
32:25and legs
32:26were restrained
32:28and at least
32:29two of the
32:30known victims
32:30were found
32:31with ligature
32:31marks.
32:33So rope
32:34binding is
32:35something that
32:36he utilized.
32:39The evidence
32:40also shows
32:40that Mark
32:41murdered at
32:42least two
32:42of the
32:42victims
32:45via asphyxiation
32:46and or
32:47drowning.
32:52One of the
32:53benchmarks of
32:53Mark's
32:54memo was
32:55disposing of
32:55his victims
32:56in remote
32:57areas often
32:57in or near
32:58water.
33:01and finally
33:03we know
33:03at least
33:04one of
33:04his victims
33:04was found
33:05without her
33:06underwear.
33:07So there's
33:07a theory
33:08that he kept
33:09trophies
33:09from his
33:10crimes.
33:20looking at
33:20these cases
33:21is incredibly
33:23emotional.
33:24In order
33:25to do
33:27the work
33:27I do,
33:28in order
33:29to be
33:30in law
33:30enforcement,
33:31you have
33:31to separate
33:32yourself
33:32from the
33:33emotional
33:33side of
33:34things,
33:35but I
33:36can't separate
33:37myself.
33:37I'm in it.
33:43One of the
33:43things that
33:44kind of
33:45surprised me
33:46is coming
33:47across my
33:49sexual assault
33:50nurse examiner
33:51exam kit
33:52that was done
33:53in 2002
33:54when I went
33:54to the
33:55hospital.
33:56It was
33:56also very
33:57surprising
33:58to open
33:58an envelope
33:59and find
33:59the black
34:00handcuffs,
34:00to find
34:01the gun
34:02that I was
34:03kidnapped
34:03with.
34:03To have
34:05it there
34:05in your
34:05hands again
34:06is very
34:08emotional
34:08in ways
34:09that I
34:09didn't
34:09expect.
34:10I'm hoping
34:11that the
34:12emotional toll
34:13of the
34:14last couple
34:15of days
34:15really pays
34:16up.
34:17I think
34:17it will.
34:17I know
34:18it will.
34:19It was
34:19worth it.
34:22I have
34:23to keep
34:25researching,
34:26digging as
34:26deep as
34:27possible to
34:28figure out
34:29who he
34:30was, how
34:30he became
34:31who he
34:31was, and
34:32therefore
34:33what he
34:34could have
34:34done.
34:42put a
34:43finger
34:44down if
34:44you
34:44were
34:45married
34:45at 17,
34:46divorced
34:46by 25.
34:48In
34:482024, I
34:50decided to
34:50share my
34:51story.
34:59Entire
34:59marriage
35:00was a
35:01lie, so
35:02that made
35:03me really
35:03look back
35:04at everything
35:05with an
35:06entirely
35:07different lens.
35:09I had wondered
35:10over the years
35:10whether he was
35:11responsible for
35:12other crimes.
35:14There's still, to
35:15this day,
35:16ongoing investigations
35:17into cold
35:18cases that they're
35:20trying to
35:21solve.
35:22It was
35:22extremely
35:24overwhelming
35:25to talk about
35:26that.
35:26My only
35:27question for
35:27him is
35:28what else
35:30did you do?
35:31Because so
35:31far, he's
35:32only been
35:33connected to
35:34three murders
35:36and obviously
35:37the abduction
35:38of Kara
35:39Robinson.
35:40It set a lot
35:41of things in
35:42motion that I
35:43didn't really
35:45expect.
35:49I logged
35:51on to
35:52TikTok
35:52recently and
35:54realized I
35:54was getting
35:55all of these
35:55tags on
35:56content.
35:59I go to
36:00it and it's
36:00Bonnie Lou
36:02and I
36:04immediately know
36:05who Bonnie is.
36:05Bonnie is my
36:07captor, Richard
36:07Markavonet's
36:08first wife.
36:09So it's who
36:10he was married
36:11to whenever
36:12he kidnapped
36:13and murdered
36:14Sophia and
36:15Katie and
36:16Kristen.
36:17I hoped we
36:18could find a
36:19way to align
36:20our shared
36:20mission because
36:22Mark's not
36:22here.
36:23So he
36:24can't speak
36:25to where
36:27he was,
36:28what his
36:28mindset was,
36:30what he could
36:30possibly therefore
36:32have been
36:32connected to.
36:33The best
36:34person to
36:35fill in those
36:36gaps and
36:36know where
36:37to look is
36:39the person
36:39that was
36:39married to
36:40him for
36:40eight and
36:40a half
36:40years.
36:42It's
36:42Bonnie.
37:05Did you
37:07ever think
37:08when you
37:09made a
37:09TikTok
37:10that this
37:11would
37:11happen?
37:11No.
37:15It's
37:16very
37:16unusual
37:17that
37:17the
37:18survivor
37:19of
37:19a
37:20serial
37:20killer
37:21would
37:22form a
37:23relationship
37:23with his
37:24ex-wife.
37:25I'm literally
37:26the one
37:27person who
37:27knew him
37:28the most
37:28intimately
37:30and so
37:31I'm a
37:32timeline
37:33into his
37:34mind and
37:34his
37:35whereabouts.
37:36I have
37:36a calendar
37:37where I've
37:38like written
37:38Mark's home,
37:39Mark's home,
37:39Mark's home.
37:41Bonnie can
37:42give us
37:43the road map
37:45of where
37:46they started
37:47here in
37:47South Carolina.
37:48I was actually
37:49at my friend's
37:50house when I
37:51was kidnapped.
37:51Right here.
37:53Wow.
37:54And that's
37:54really close to
37:55where I used
37:57to live.
37:59move us
38:00up to
38:01Maine,
38:02out to
38:03San Diego,
38:04and back
38:05to Virginia.
38:07Ultimately,
38:08if we can
38:08use both
38:10of our
38:10knowledge,
38:11you're the
38:12only person
38:12that lived
38:13with him
38:13and knew
38:14him through
38:14this time
38:15and I'm
38:15the only
38:16person that
38:16saw the
38:16criminal
38:17side of
38:17things that
38:18we know
38:18of.
38:19And so
38:19we can
38:20use these
38:20two pieces
38:21to see
38:23if we can
38:23get some
38:23questions answered
38:24because he's
38:25not here
38:25to answer
38:26them.
38:27I hope
38:28sharing my
38:29story will
38:30bring forward
38:31some answers.
38:32I couldn't
38:33imagine being
38:34a parent and
38:35not knowing
38:35what happened
38:36to my child.
38:36If it was
38:37my kid,
38:37I would
38:37never rest
38:38until I
38:38knew.
38:43There's a
38:43lot to
38:44figure out,
38:45so we're
38:46going to
38:46start this
38:47investigation
38:47by going
38:48to our
38:49first location,
38:52Portland,
38:53Maine.
39:00at that
39:01time before
39:02we were
39:02married,
39:03Mark was
39:03stationed on
39:04a ship
39:04here,
39:05so we
39:06were apart
39:06for four
39:07months.
39:09What was
39:09day-to-day
39:10life like
39:10for you
39:11guys?
39:12Of course,
39:13this was
39:13before cell
39:13phones,
39:14so we
39:14weren't in
39:14contact
39:15with each
39:15other.
39:18We have
39:19this time
39:20frame that
39:20he's here
39:21alone,
39:22Bonnie's not
39:23here yet,
39:23so he had a
39:25window in which
39:26he was not
39:26being observed.
39:27If you lived
39:27in the
39:28Portland,
39:28or surrounding
39:29areas in
39:29the late
39:291980s,
39:30early 90s,
39:31then I
39:32need your
39:32attention for
39:33a second.
39:33I am a
39:34survivor of
39:35kidnapping and
39:36assault at the
39:36hands of a
39:36serial killer,
39:37and I'm
39:38currently
39:38investigating
39:38other cases
39:39that I
39:39think he
39:40may be
39:40responsible
39:40for.
39:41When I
39:42was looking
39:42for potential
39:43cases,
39:44there was
39:45one that
39:46stood out.
39:48This case
39:49remains one
39:49of the most
39:50high-profile
39:51criminal cases
39:52in Maine,
39:52the kidnapping
39:53and murder
39:54of 12-year-old
39:55Sarah Cherry.
39:57She was taken
39:58in the middle
39:58of the day
39:59without a trace.
40:00The age range
40:01matches.
40:02It's Hallmark,
40:04Richard Mark
40:05Avonis.
40:06Sarah Cherry
40:07had been murdered
40:08in the beginning
40:09of July,
40:10and in my
40:11calendar,
40:11I've written
40:12down all the
40:13times that he
40:14came home,
40:16but he didn't
40:17come home in
40:17July until
40:19the end of the
40:20month.
40:20I got this
40:22sick feeling
40:23in my stomach.
40:24When Sarah Cherry
40:25was kidnapped
40:27and murdered,
40:28Mark was
40:29still in Maine.
40:41Whoever killed
40:42that poor girl
40:43that night,
40:44he would have
40:45tied her hands
40:46in front of her.
40:48We didn't have
40:49any answers.
40:49We didn't have
40:50a clue.
40:51He said,
40:52a young girl
40:53like you shouldn't
40:54be taking rides
40:54with strangers.
40:56I thought I'm
40:58in trouble.
40:59There was a
41:01young woman.
41:01She lived in
41:02this house,
41:03and he was
41:05stalking her.
41:07All of these
41:08notes just tell
41:09me he's hunting.
41:11looking back,
41:13he must have
41:13had her here
41:14and had a
41:15struggle with
41:17her.
41:19I'm a lot
41:20more than
41:21just the
41:22girl who was
41:22raped.
41:23I'll never
41:24stop searching
41:25for answers
41:26to what
41:32else Mark
41:32may have
41:32done.
