00:00Allie, you were on a plane two hours ago. Now you're going to update us on preparations there.
00:08Well, a busy travel day, Anna and Jeff. But all of that to say, getting boots on the ground here,
00:14it is very evident that people not only in Pensacola, but here in Pensacola Beach,
00:19where we're live this evening, are preparing for potentially the imminent of Hurricane
00:24Isaias, potentially coming through this area here. Although you'd maybe not know that this
00:29evening. If you take a look around me, you'll see the choppy waves certainly here along the beach,
00:33but you'll also see something else in the distance. Look at those surfers. They are out
00:37because the waves, perfect conditions ahead of this possible landfall in this region tomorrow.
00:44So they're using that to their ability. But with the water right behind me, some of the biggest
00:48concerns here will be things like storm surge, flooding, dangerous conditions to communities
00:53all along this stretch of the Gulf Coast. People here are not waiting to see what Hurricane Isaias
00:59brings. They are getting ready now. We saw people earlier filling up sandbags. That was in
01:05downtown Pensacola, some even bringing their own bags to load up with sand, hoping to protect their
01:10homes and property before the storm moves in. And from above, our drone shows just how much of this
01:16community sits right along the water, where rising seas and storm surge could become a major concern.
01:22Here in the Pensacola area, storm surge could push water into low-lying coastal communities,
01:27flood roads, and make some areas dangerous or even impassable. Heavy rain could also lead to flooding. And
01:33the storm's rain bands could even produce isolated tornadoes. And for people who live on or near the
01:38islands along the coast, watching the water change can be a warning in and of itself. Many deciding,
01:44maybe we won't stick around.
01:47The waves were a lot calmer and within just a couple of hours, it's crazy. I'm actually going to leave,
01:55I'm going to get off the island because I do not want to stay here and be on the island.
01:59I just pray that, you know, we get no power outage and no floods and everybody's safe.
02:10We actually spoke to today experiencing a potential hurricane for the very first time. So even though that we are
02:16talking Category 1, Category 2 status, a lot of them still very nervous. Many of them, again, experiencing this for
02:24potentially the very first time themselves. So a lot of them taking this as serious as possible, heeding those warnings
02:31that we've been
02:32sharing against storm surge, going to potentially be an issue for a number of coastal communities in this area. Again,
02:39Pensacola Beach, where we're live this evening, potentially one of those locations on the high impact list. And that's
02:46something we're going to be watching in the forecast. As we know, Jeff and Anna over the next 24 hours.
02:52All right, AccuWeather correspondent, Allie Reed, excited to have you back with us to cover this storm. And we'll be
02:58checking back in with you the next couple days.
