00:00Obviously, massive, massive, massive must-win game, really, in a lot of ways.
00:05I mean, sure, you can make it up.
00:06Go on some ridiculous streak to win, like, nine games out of 13 down the stretch or something.
00:13But the host of Giants, Northwest Stadium, 1 o'clock.
00:17A traditional 1 o'clock start, thank God.
00:20But critical factor, kind of is every week, but it really is right now, is the injuries.
00:25Let me give you the injury report presented by the Centers for Advanced Orthopedics.
00:30So, did not practice yesterday.
00:34Nick Allegretti, downgraded from Limited on Wednesday, so did not practice.
00:40So, it looks like he'll be out.
00:41He's got a hip and an Achilles deal that he's messing with.
00:46Percy Butler did not practice.
00:47Hamstring, that doesn't look good.
00:49Diggs, hamstring, did not practice.
00:51Mariota, obviously out for several weeks.
00:53McLaurin also did not practice, so not trending in the right direction for those two guys.
00:57Not good for the wideouts.
00:59Amenehu, the groin and the ankle, all these guys, big contributors.
01:02And then Tyler Owens, their stud special teams enforcer.
01:08He did not practice with a hamstring.
01:10A lot of soft tissue injuries.
01:12I thought last time someone reported it was something like 10 or 11, the guys on the injury report,
01:16had soft tissue injuries.
01:18What's going on there?
01:19Limited yesterday.
01:21Trey Amos, of course, he's got a 21-day window open to return, so I don't know if that's on
01:26track.
01:27Maybe a full participant next week, then return.
01:29We'll see.
01:30Bill with a groin was limited.
01:32Nick Cross expected to play, though, but downgraded from full Wednesday.
01:37So, I don't know, just being careful maybe with Nick.
01:41Frankie Louvu, limited.
01:42Jeremy McNichols also, whose IR window is open, limited.
01:47Chig, limited with the hamstring, but hopefully trending in the right direction.
01:51Rashad White, limited.
01:52Dietrich Wise, also with the window open on the pup list, limited.
01:57Full participants.
01:58This is obviously much better.
02:00Jaden Daniels, a full go.
02:02Sam Cosme, back from the concussion, throat, whatever happened there.
02:07Traylon Burks with the shoulder.
02:09Javon Kinlaw, full go.
02:10Fabian Moreau, full go.
02:12Jeremy Reeves, Ben Sinnott, Sonny Stiles.
02:15So, that's all good.
02:16Of course, Center for Advanced Orthopedics.
02:19More physicians, more locations, more advanced.
02:21Care centered around one thing.
02:22You visit cfaortho.com.
02:26So, the defense is in better shape than the offense.
02:29Yeah, I was going to say, I think the big ones there are, obviously, Jaden Daniels,
02:33Sam Cosme, and a couple of the guys on defense.
02:36Well, I think the receiver is.
02:37Yeah, but if you don't have Sam McClorin.
02:39You don't have Terry and Stephon?
02:40I mean, you're in trouble.
02:42Yeah, I mean, right now, if McClorin and Diggs are out, that means next man up are
02:46Antonio Williams, Traylon Burks, and De'Ami Brown.
02:50Probably Luke McCaffrey also in the mix, if he's elevated to return kicks.
02:53Has Evan Jefferson still been on the practice squad?
02:56They have not.
02:57Yeah, he's on the practice squad, I believe.
02:59But I don't believe he's on the practice.
03:01I like Antonio Williams a lot.
03:03We've seen him so far, but he's never been featured.
03:06Yeah, do you want him elevated to the number one this early in his rookie campaign?
03:11I mean, I think he could do it, but yeah, I mean, you're asking a lot.
03:15Kidding is the fifth game ever.
03:17I mean, I think that's huge if Terry and Diggs are out.
03:20It looks like they're going to be out.
03:21That's huge.
03:22So then your expected starters are on the offensive line is left tackle Brandon Coleman, left guard
03:30Chris Paul, Lucas Patrick looks like he's filling in at center for Allegretti, and we're going
03:37to get to some of that.
03:38I'm going to play.
03:38Let's play in a second.
03:40Barry's Veluga asking Dan Quinn about Allegretti.
03:42Then we got Cosme back, he was a full go, and then right tackle, that should be Josh Connerly.
03:50So we have a couple clips from the podium, one being Barry, our buddy Barry's Veluga, who
03:57is now, he's with the Athletic, right?
03:59Yes.
03:59He's with the Athletic, and he kind of grills DQ a little bit about Allegretti.
04:05Dan, you and Adam spent most of the summer telling us how much confidence you had in
04:11Nick Allegretti, how smart of a player he is, how he's played a lot of guard, but he's
04:15really capable at center.
04:18What's happened there?
04:19He's essentially been benched at both center and guard.
04:23Yeah, I think there's a lot that goes into it.
04:25It's like most things on the discussion.
04:27I think one, missing a lot of camp obviously has a factor, and he was also banged up to
04:32calf, hip, and so I am very much, the conversation with him, I'm looking forward to getting Nick
04:39Allegretti ball back, like his toughness and will, Barry, is strong, and so as we're in
04:45the last week, this week, I'm looking forward to seeing that technique really improve.
04:49That's who Nick is, and I'm certain that we'll see that, you know, continue up.
04:55Just his kind of will and toughness allowed him to go, but I'm looking forward to him really
05:00getting into a good working rhythm at the position.
05:05So, I mean, it is what it is.
05:07He's not going to say he's disappointed us, that's why we're not starting.
05:10I just think it's funny.
05:13Barry used Dan's words against him.
05:16He weaponized his words.
05:17I mean, it's very early to give up on him, but I don't know.
05:22It sounds like, I mean, do you buy into what Dan said?
05:25I mean, missing camp hurts you, and then he's still banged up, so maybe it's a combination
05:28of that, they bring in Patrick, and they think overall Patrick's better.
05:32I don't know.
05:33Seems pretty simple to me, but it is interesting that they've moved on from Allegri seemingly
05:39this early.
05:40He seems to leave the door open for Allegri to have an impact, you know, when he gets
05:44healthy.
05:44We'll see, I guess.
05:48Obviously, Jaden Daniels is the biggest story of this game.
05:52How effective he'll be, but we'll find out.
05:56Well, he is, however, a full go.
05:59Let's hear Jaden's words.
06:01Do you play with the brace on and kind of protect yourself while also, obviously, being
06:04able to play the game, you know?
06:06Nah.
06:09Yeah, nah, I can't really.
06:12I mean, there's ways you could talk about different ways of protecting myself, but I don't get hit
06:19in practice, so I wouldn't know until Sunday.
06:23That's all he said?
06:24That's true.
06:24Jim, is there anything you learned in the Minnesota game?
06:27I know it's a different brace, but anything you learned from that experience that could
06:31help you now?
06:35Nah.
06:36Go out there and play ball?
06:37Nah, not really.
06:39And, you know, just how has it felt just moving around out there?
06:41I know maybe somebody asked you already.
06:43Is there anything where you still are adjusting to anything with the brace?
06:48Nah, I mean, just trying to get used to it.
06:50Like I said, it's just kind of a part of me now, so, you know, for the time being, as
06:56long
06:56as I'm on that field, so, just getting used to it, you know, trying to find the different
07:01ways where it's most comfortable, and I'm not really just thinking about it, I'm just
07:03out there playing.
07:06Yeah, I mean, he's obviously...
07:07He's kind of prickly.
07:08I mean, I think he's sick of talking about it.
07:10I think he's very frustrated.
07:11I think he's like that with every question.
07:12He doesn't really like doing this media stuff.
07:14No, he hates it.
07:15You know, he always thanks him at the end, but, you know, he doesn't really like doing
07:17It's the last thing he wants to do.
07:18And, yeah, it's a pain in his ass.
07:20I mean, he's not going to tell you, but it's a pain in his ass.
07:22So, I am very curious to see, you know, if we could see a perceptible, noticeable difference
07:30in his play because of the brace.
07:32I'm very curious to see.
07:34And I think if he was just purely a drop-back passer, I don't think we would notice something,
07:38but the fact that he is so effective when he takes off, that's where I think we'll notice
07:44the most.
07:44But that's just a guess.
07:46And then, obviously, you know, when you play quarterback and you're in so many different
07:50positions on the field, as Jaden is, how is he going to handle all those times these
07:55guys get thrown to the field?
07:56I mean, you watch these games, these Thursday night games, other games, and these big-ass
08:02quarterbacks are just thrown like ragdolls by these defensive linemen.
08:06Yeah, it's not only when they're getting sacked.
08:07They get hit all the time that you don't see.
08:09All the time.
08:10I mean, they release the throw.
08:11I mean, you saw kind of like Manis, all the hits.
08:14I mean, he got pummeled.
08:16He was getting destroyed.
08:17I mean, and he's a big kid.
08:18Yeah.
08:18And they throw him around literally like he's a little, like, toddler.
08:23So, you know, how's he going to handle that?
08:26And there's no way to really replicate it.
08:28Maybe I'm being naive.
08:29I'm not that worried about the brace at this point.
08:31I feel like the brace is going to prevent the dislocation.
08:35And I'm kind of sleeping on the impact of the brace.
08:37I do think it's going to prevent the dislocation.
08:40I agree with you 100%.
08:41I'll be stunned if he dislocates it again in the brace.
08:45But I do wonder how it's going to, like, you know, how's it going to feel when he smashes
08:50into it?
08:50You know, because some linemen just ragdolls them into the ground.
08:54You know, we've talked a lot about injuries, and rightfully so, and they've updated the
08:59numbers.
08:59So, the commanders right now, in terms of games missed by starters, are fourth most in
09:05the NFL.
09:06So, that makes more sense to me.
09:07Number one is the Panthers.
09:08Yeah, that makes more sense to me.
09:10Now, here's the thing.
09:10Panthers are 500, right?
09:11Mm-hmm.
09:12You can win games.
09:1449ers are number two.
09:16Yeah.
09:16They're undefeated.
09:17Yeah.
09:18Number three is the Lions.
09:21The Lions are number two, and then commanders are four.
09:24Would they be undefeated if they didn't have Brock Purdy?
09:27Who's their backup?
09:27Probably not.
09:28Who's their backup?
09:29Mack.
09:30Mack Jones.
09:31Yeah, he was a good last go-around, but we'll see.
09:33I mean, and a lot of that is scheduling, too, because look at San Francisco has beaten
09:37Miami, Arizona, and a, you know, a bad offensive Denver Bronco team.
09:41Yeah.
09:42Yeah.
09:42So, you know, look at who's Washington's played.
09:45Yeah.
09:46Oh, following up on that, you saw Sean Payton.
09:48And he's snatched the play sheet from, what's the dude's name?
09:52Yeah.
09:53Davis Webb.
09:53Oh, Webb.
09:54Davis Webb.
09:54And Tomiko Ryans has done the same thing in Houston.
09:57Well, that's what happens when your offense in Denver is struggling, and your defense in
10:02Houston is just really bad.
10:04I think the Denver situation is nebulous.
10:08Like, he's talking about, like, they're going to collaborate more.
10:11So, I don't think he's taken the plays completely away from Webb.
10:15Well, it doesn't inspire confidence.
10:17No.
10:17Nor does Bo Nix's performance through the first four games.
10:20So, he's going to try to jumpstart that.
10:23Correct.
10:23So, I did want to also get an updated weather thing, because, you know, these things do
10:27change.
10:28And right now, it's still looking like a wet game.
10:33Forecasts, mid-60s, winds around 10 to 14 miles per hour.
10:39The chance of rain has dropped a little bit, went from 98% to between 85 to 90%.
10:44I mean, I heard it's going to start raining Saturday night late and rain all day Sunday.
10:49Right.
10:50Supposed to be like 9, 10 hour rain.
10:51The heavy stuff might move out earlier than expected, earlier than expected during the
10:55week.
10:56It might not be as bad at 2, 3, 4 o'clock as we thought.
11:01But, yeah, it's definitely going to be raining.
11:02So, it's still definitely going to be a wet.
11:04And that's going to affect both teams.
11:05Definitely going to be a wet, slick field.
11:07So, that could affect, you know, deep balls, that kind of thing, long developing plays.
11:11Also, could affect field goals, Cakes.
11:13Obviously, anytime you have weather in an outdoor situation, especially here in D.C., the turf
11:19is always somewhat of an issue here.
11:21So, that'll be interesting to see if the kickers are a factor.
11:26And then, how's it going to play out?
11:28Like, is it going to be more of a running game?
11:31Like, are both teams going to really just try to pound the football and who's going to
11:34be more successful?
11:36Yeah.
11:36Is it going to be a big bill game?
11:38Is it going to be a breakout for him?
11:40Is it going to be an Austin Eckler game?
11:41Where, you know, he doubles his carries and touches, maybe?
11:45Because, can he go from five to ten touches for Austin Eckler?
11:49That might be good.
11:49We also didn't mention that they released yesterday, kind of in a surprising move, their
11:54six-round draft pick, Katron Allen.
11:55Fat man.
11:56I believe most people think that they're not disappointed in him.
12:01It's just a numbers game.
12:02They're going to try to sneak him back onto the practice squad.
12:05I think Grant Paulson's made the point of saying, from his discussions with people around the
12:09league, when you really want to sneak somebody back on the practice squad, you cut them late
12:14in the week, because teams have already kind of had their blueprint for the week.
12:18They've already picked up the guys they need to pick up, and it would be kind of awkward
12:21then to pick up somebody, you know, cut somebody.
12:24You know what I mean?
12:25So, if you're going to try to sneak somebody in, it's better to do it later in the week.
12:28How long does he have to be exposed to the rest of the week?
12:32I don't know, 24 hours or something?
12:33I'm not sure.
12:33Is it really?
12:34I'm not sure.
12:35But if you can do it, this is the time to do it.
12:38And I think that the expectation is that they will re-sign him if he clears waivers or whatever.
12:44I mean, no disrespect.
12:45I just don't think there's going to be a big clamoring for Catron Allen at this point.
12:49I don't think so either.
12:49But they did just pluck off Robert Henry off their practice squad, right?
12:52So, guys are looking around for help.
12:54And look, other teams are dealing with so many injuries at that position.
12:57Right.
12:58I mean, some teams are down to their third or fourth running back.
13:01Right.
13:01The question is, though...
13:02Who were we just talking about?
13:03Roshon Johnson.
13:04Oh, Chicago.
13:05Mononga has a turf toe injury, so that's going to be an issue.
13:07The question is, though, is...
13:09He just had a bomb game, too.
13:10I know.
13:11Now, where is the...
13:13He was AK's RB at Rutgers.
13:15Where is the position group that's causing this kind of unusual surplus?
13:20So you have McNichols.
13:22I don't know if they're going to activate him or not.
13:23Maybe that would be the reason why they let go of Catron.
13:26Because they haven't made a corresponding move yet.
13:28Maybe.
13:28I listened to Grant and Danny as I was driving down to the appearance yesterday for the Baubles.
13:33And, I mean, they were literally just completely perplexed as to why on earth they're doing this.
13:41You know, giving up on the six-round pick.
13:43Not that he's some critical thing, but then what corresponding move possibly could this be?
13:47One they didn't discuss, which I think it potentially could be, is actually elevating Sam Hartman.
13:54I know no one wants to play Hartman, but no one wants to play the tight end as your emergency,
14:00right?
14:01So is it possible that, because Jaden is still somewhat tenuous, you know, we don't know how he's going to
14:07be able to handle playing with this.
14:08You have Kallik Manis out there.
14:10If Kallik Manis goes down, I mean, Mariota went down in 10 plays.
14:13You don't want to have to go to Kolkhoff or whatever that guy's name is.
14:19Yankov.
14:19Yankov.
14:19You don't want to have to go to him.
14:21Kolkhoff, Yankov.
14:23Yeah, you hybrided his name.
14:24Well, that could be the case, but also, since McNichols is close to coming back, and they re-signed Eckler,
14:32they figure, okay, we have four RBs, we don't need five.
14:36But are they really going to go into this game?
14:38Are they going to go into a second game in a row?
14:40I find it kind of hard to believe.
14:42With just those two guys and no emergency third quarterback?
14:46It's like a real quarterback?
14:47I find that kind of hard to believe.
14:49Maybe you just feel like it's a loser if you go down to the third quarterback anyway.
14:52I think that Grand Danny were most perplexed that the guys that they decided to keep on
14:57the roster versus letting K-Tron Allen go are all similar.
15:02Yeah, I agree.
15:03Deshaun White, Austin Eckler, McNichols are all guys who can kind of catch the ball out of
15:06the backfield.
15:07Yeah, but you're not going to cut Eckler.
15:08They aren't necessarily bangers.
15:09You're not cutting him.
15:10Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
15:11Look, here's the great thing.
15:12In an hour, we're going to have Adam Peters on.
15:14We can ask him why he chose to waive K-Tron Allen over some of the other guys, and maybe
15:20it's because it's a calculated gamble that they do think that K-Tron Allen is unlikely
15:25to be picked up by other teams, whereas if you do that with a vet, maybe teams are more
15:31likely to bring in a vet.
15:32If they exposed Rashad White, he'd be picked up in two seconds, I would imagine.
15:35Right.
15:36Especially with all the injuries in the league through four weeks, heading into week five.
15:40Well, I get it being a numbers game, I just wonder where's the quirky thing that's going
15:46to happen this week.
15:46But if he does get picked up, that's another whiff by Adam Peters in the front office.
15:51Now, it's a six-round pick.
15:52I wouldn't go crazy over it.
15:54You don't expect six-round picks to be stars, and they nailed it with Bill last year with
15:59the seventh-round pick, but it still would be a whiff.
16:01It also shows you what a brutal league it is, how tough it is to stick.
16:05I mean, that's the all-time leading rusher, I believe, at Penn State.
16:07Okay, look at the running backs that have come from that school.
16:12It's pretty amazing that the guy potentially could last four weeks and get whacked.
16:18It's a brutal survival in this league.
16:21Didn't have many chances, but he's had a few, and he didn't do much with them.
16:25Yeah, so far, not much.
16:26But I don't think they've given up on him, I just think it is a numbers thing.
16:29But we've also talked about it.
16:31To be fair, their offensive line, their run blocking has been poor.
16:34Yeah, that's why I'm going to pick us up front.
16:39I'm going to pick us, but I don't really quite know how they're going to do it.
16:42I flopped, or flip-flopped on it.
16:44They're now going to take the Giants?
16:45Well, just because I just think that Terry and Diggs being out is just massive.
16:50It is massive.
16:50It definitely hurts the offense.
16:51It went from the strength to one of our weakest units now.
16:54Yeah.
16:55And I thought that with Jaden back, with all those other guys on the field, I thought they
17:00were going to win the game, even though the weather's an equalizer.
17:02Now that they're going to probably be out, I think I'm going to take the Giants.
