00:04Congratulations, Martyr. Your fantastic journey is only just beginning.
00:09Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're exploring 20 disturbing hidden video game locations.
00:16Sometimes the creepiest places in games aren't mandatory horror levels. They're rooms hidden
00:21behind fake walls, optional areas buried beneath familiar locations, and secrets developers
00:26seemingly placed there specifically to reward or punish player curiosity. Let's dive in.
00:39Before we begin, we publish new content all week long,
00:43so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:48Ghostly Room, Call of Duty Finest Hour. Before Call of Duty became obsessed with zombies,
00:54finest hour was already hiding some extremely weird stuff. During Underground Passage,
00:59players can use a bizarre grenade sequence to open what otherwise appears to be an inaccessible door.
01:10Follow the hidden tunnel and you'll reach the aptly named Ghostly Room. Floating candles illuminate a
01:16miniature Sherman tank and P-51 Mustang. There's an enormous rat in a cage, strange pictures,
01:21teddy bears, and a cradle containing the ghost of a young boy. Interact with him and he'll rise into
01:27the air and pose like a soldier. Remember, this is supposed to be a relatively grounded World War 2
01:43shooter. Apparently nobody told the haunted flying child.
01:47Mia's Nightmare Room, Psychonauts. Mia Vordello's mind is presented as one giant disco, which makes
01:54finding the room she's desperately trying to keep hidden considerably more upsetting.
02:01Now why would you want to come in here? Come on, this room's no fun. Let's leave, baby.
02:06Inside Mia's dance party, players can discover a small nursery and enter a toy chest leading to a
02:11horrific burning chamber filled with caged nightmares. They speak using the voices of children, begging
02:16Mia to save them and asking why she let them die. The reason is devastating. Mia once worked at an
02:23orphanage and the children died in a fire while she was away. What initially looked like the happiest
02:31mind in Psychonauts is revealed to contain a tremendous amount of suppressed grief. Turns out
02:36the disco isn't hiding bad taste, it's hiding trauma. Black Space 2, Omori. Regular Black Space is
02:43already disturbing. The Nomori reveals that apparently we haven't descended far enough.
02:49The second Black Space contains an assortment of surreal areas hidden behind specific routes
02:54and gameplay conditions. Players can discover endless hallways, skeletal remains, hidden ladders,
03:00distorted versions of Sunny's home, secret forests, unsettling versions of familiar characters,
03:05and rooms that seem increasingly disconnected from Head Space's comforting fantasy.
03:17Some entrances are so obscure that players can complete the entire game without realising these
03:22spaces exist. That's fitting since Black Space represents memories Sunny desperately doesn't want
03:28to confront, whereas Black Space 2 feels like that which was buried in the deepest, darkest parts of
03:33himself. Ash Lake, Dark Souls. Most hidden areas reward players with treasure. Dark Souls rewards
03:40curiosity with an existential crisis.
03:49At the bottom of Blighttown, players can pass through an illusory wall inside a giant tree.
03:54After destroying a second illusory wall, which just feels spiteful in of itself, the undead can descend
03:59through the Great Hollow, which will eventually lead them to Ash Lake, an endless black shoreline beneath
04:05colossal arch trees stretching beyond sight. There's a hydra, giant skulls, and one of the last surviving
04:12everlasting dragons. But what makes Ash Lake disturbing is its scale. It's beautiful, it's peaceful,
04:18and we suddenly feel very, very small, providing a sense of dread you won't find in Anor Londo.

04:46Giant Rabbit Temple Animal Well
04:48Animal Well contains secrets inside of secrets inside of even more secrets, with this being one of the biggest.
05:00The giant rabbit temple sits somewhere in space and requires players to first collect all 16 secret rabbits,
05:07before tackling the extraordinarily elaborate BDTP puzzle. Reach the temple and you'll find one
05:14massive bunny. It's adorable, until it eats you.
05:25Giant Rabbit Temple
05:26Players are swallowed whole and transported through its digestive tract, eventually gaining the ability
05:31to transform and fly afterward. It's less graphic than many other locations on this list,
05:36but the sheer surrealism earns its place. Bottom of the well, The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time.
05:42Kakariko Village seems pretty pleasant. Then young Link climbs into its well and discovers the
05:48torture dungeon underneath everyone's houses.
05:58The bottom of the well contains invisible floors, hidden walls, coffins, cages, bloodstained equipment,
06:05redeads, and the unforgettable Dead Hand. A pale, fleshy monstrosity whose disembodied arms hold Link
06:12still while it approaches for a bite. All this protects the lens of truth, which allows players
06:17to see through the dungeon's illusions. The creepiest implication is that somebody once lived where the
06:22well-known stands, and apparently possessed the ability to see the truth. You can imagine the
06:28nightmares this caused players during Ocarina's heyday.
06:36The Kalander, Starfield. Starfield isn't generally a horror game. That is, until you board the Kalander.
06:46Captain, greetings.
06:52This derelict ship drifts above Schrodinger III, seemingly abandoned. There are no friendly crew
06:58members, systems have failed, and scattered logs gradually explain that something went catastrophically
07:04wrong. The vessel's occupants had encountered an unknown alien creature designated the XL069
07:10Interloper. And naturally, they brought it on board. By the time you arrive, the crew is dead. The
07:22creature isn't. Finding the Interloper stalking the laboratory section transforms an otherwise peaceful
07:28space exploration game into a miniature alien experience. Bethesda wisely offers very little
07:34explanation regarding exactly what this thing is. After all, some mysteries don't need answers.
07:40They need orbital bombardment. The haunted hotel wing. Hitman. Contracts. Agent 47 has assassinated
07:48international terrorists, mobsters, and billionaires. Ghosts apparently weren't covered in ICA training.
07:54What's going on, officer? There's been an accident, sir. Please move along. Nothing of interest here,
08:01just a nasty accident. During traditions of the trade, players can break away from the mission and enter a
08:07closed-off wing of the hotel. There, an actual translucent ghost can appear wandering through
08:12the corridor. It may also materialize behind you in mirrors or inside bathrooms.
08:25And because Hitman players naturally respond to supernatural phenomena by testing game mechanics,
08:3047 can even attempt to use fiber wire on it. That is, if it doesn't spook you first and you
08:36start blasting.
08:37Upside Down Sinners. World of Warcraft. For years, one of World of Warcraft's creepiest
08:43locations wasn't supposed to be accessible at all. Beneath Karazhan lies the enormous forgotten crypt,
08:49an unfinished area adventurous players historically reach through glitches and exploits. Its most famous
08:54chamber became known as Upside Down Sinners. It's a flooded room containing numerous human corpses
09:09chained upside down beneath the water. There's no traditional quest explaining exactly what happened.
09:15For early players who slipped beyond Blizzard's intended boundaries, the lack of context made
09:20everything worse. Dunwich Building. Fallout 3. Most horrors in Fallout can be explained by nuclear war,
09:33mutation or irresponsible science. Dunwich has other ideas.
09:44Explore deeper and you'll experience visions of the building before the bombs fell.
09:48Hear unnatural voices and follow recordings left by a scavenger named Jamie as he gradually loses his sanity.
09:55Eventually, you reach the virulent underchambers. There, feral ghouls seemingly worship a bizarre obelisk
10:02surrounded by skulls, while whispers reference names linked to the game's Lovecraftian mythology.
10:14The creepiest part? Fallout 3 never definitively explains what's happening. Radiation can explain the ghouls,
10:21not the ancient whispering monolith. Scarecrow's secret boat. Batman. Arkham City.
10:27Scarecrow doesn't physically appear in Arkham City, but somebody has been preparing for his return.
10:32Riddler's back, huh? Figures. I've seen these weird question marks all over Arkham City.
10:37Off the industrial district coast sits an otherwise forgettable boat. Use Batman's cryptographic
10:42sequencer on the hatch, and the password City of Terror grants access to a secret laboratory.
10:48Inside are shipments of cockroaches, fear-toxin materials, and a thug strapped to a chair as a test
10:53subject. Considering Scarecrow seemingly died after Killer Croc attacked him in Arkham Asylum,
10:57discovering evidence that Jonathan Crane survived was already disturbing. In hindsight, the room
11:03quietly foreshadowed the massive fear-toxin attack that would eventually define Arkham Knight.
11:13Frost Flow Lighthouse. The Elder Scrolls V. Skyrim. Frost Flow Lighthouse initially looks like another
11:20abandoned building. Then you find the bodies. Exploration reveals that the family living there
11:26had been experiencing strange noises beneath the lighthouse. Those noises weren't ghosts.
11:41Fallmoor and Charis had tunneled underneath the building, eventually attacking its inhabitants and
11:45dragging them into the caverns below. Journals allow players to reconstruct the family's final days while
11:51descending into increasingly disgusting underground nests. Eventually, you'll discover the remains
11:56of the lighthouse keeper inside the creature-infested depths. There's no grand Daedric conspiracy or
12:02world-ending prophecy here, just an ordinary family finding out that their basement connects directly
12:07to Nightmare Country.
12:14The Festering Cove. The Underdark already contains enough reasons to watch your step, yet a concealed
12:22route can lead players into the Festering Cove, home to a tribe of Kuatoa passionately worshipping their
12:28god of murder. Bu'al.
12:41Unfortunately for them, Bu'al isn't exactly what he claims. He's actually a redcap using deception to
12:47convince the fish people he's divine, although their strange collective belief has genuinely increased his
12:53power. Players can expose him, fight everyone, manipulate the cult, or even sacrifice a companion
13:04for a permanent blessing. That's right, Larian hid an entire murderous fish cult in a corner of the
13:10Underdark many never uncovered.
13:22The man-made mutant house. Red Dead Redemption 2. Outside Van Horn stands an abandoned house you can't
13:30enter through conventional means. That should have perhaps been Arthur's cue to leave. Instead, climbing
13:36onto the roof and entering through an upstairs window reveals something suspended inside. A grotesque
13:41creature assembled from multiple animals and human material.
13:50Research notes mention components including a bear heart, vulture's wings, boar parts,
13:55and homo sapiens. Rockstar never explains who created the thing or whether they ever intended for
14:01it to live. Arthur simply sketches the abomination and moves on with his day. Considering the surrounding
14:07world contains serial killers, cannibals, and UFOs, perhaps Frankenstein's cowboy cousin isn't
14:12especially unusual for Mr. Morgan. But it sure as hell shook us.
14:17Nosk's Lair. Hollow Knight. While exploring Deepnest, you may notice something strange.
14:23Another version of the knight in the distance who repeatedly disappears deeper into the tunnels below.
14:28Following it requires finding breakable walls and eventually leads to a chamber filled with hanging
14:33corpses. Then, your mysterious double begins transforming.
14:50Nosk is a predatory creature that lures victims by mimicking familiar forms drawn from their memories.
14:55What makes the sequence so effective is how naturally player curiosity does all the work.
15:00Nobody forces you to chase your clone. You see something impossible and voluntarily follow it
15:05into progressively darker tunnels. Congratulations, you behaved exactly like prey. Enjoy the boss battle.
15:17The abandoned old workshop, Bloodborne. Just getting to this place is already suspicious.
15:24Players must carefully drop through the Healing Church workshop onto a series of easily missed platforms,
15:30where one mistake means death.
15:39At the bottom is a hidden doorway. Open it and things become stranger. The abandoned old workshop is an almost
15:47exact real-world recreation of the hunter's dream, except it's silent and, yes, abandoned. A lifeless version of the doll
15:55sits inside,
15:56while players can discover the old hunter bone and even one of the umbilical cords required for the game's hidden
16:01ending.
16:02The revelation completely changes your perception of the supposedly safe hunter's dream.
16:06It wasn't designed from nothing. Somewhere, sometime, that sanctuary was based on a real place, before everything went to hell.
16:14What is this? I, I can't remember. Not a thing, only I feel. A yearning, something I never felt before.
16:27Paz's medical room. Metal Gear Solid V, The Phantom Pain.
16:32Exploring Mother Base's medical platform can reveal something… impossible. Paz is alive.
16:38Paz. That's right. It's her. What about the bomb? We were able to remove the explosives. Both of them.
16:48Despite seemingly dying during the helicopter explosion in Ground Zeroes, she sits inside a
16:53hidden medical room suffering from memory loss. Venom Snake can bring her photographs recovered
16:57from wandering Mother Base soldiers, gradually helping her remember their shared past. Then it all falls
17:03apart. Paz suddenly remembers the bomb inside her, and the explosion happens again.
17:20The truth is that Paz was never there. The entire room represents Snake's hallucination and unresolved
17:26guilt over failing to save her. Damn it, Kojima!
17:30Ratman Dens. Portal and Portal 2. Aperture Science presents itself as cold,
17:35sterile, and completely controlled by GLaDOS. Then you look behind the walls.
17:47Hidden throughout both Portal games are cramped rooms where former Aperture employee Doug Ratman
17:52secretly survived outside of GLaDOS's observation. The walls contained increasingly paranoid drawings,
17:58companion cube shrines, warnings, surveillance imagery, and messages, including the legendary
18:03the cake is a lie. Thirteen dens have been documented across the two games, transforming what initially
18:09seemed like a silly easter egg into environmental evidence of an actual survivor living between
18:14Aperture's testing chambers. The creepiest implication is simple. While Shell thought she was alone with GLaDOS,
18:21someone may have been watching from inside the walls.
18:32Frenzied Flame Proscription, Elden Ring. Beneath Moog the Omen's boss arena sits a hidden passage,
18:39revealing one of Elden Ring's most horrific discoveries.
18:50Deep beneath Leyndell, countless corpses of nomadic merchants have been packed into a huge underground
18:56tomb. Item descriptions reveal that the merchants were falsely accused of heresy,
19:01rounded up, and buried alive beneath the capital. Driven to absolute despair, they summoned the flame
19:07of frenzy. The tarnished must descend past coffins and bodies before eventually finding the sealed
19:12chamber of the Three Fingers, the entity capable of placing you on the path towards annihilating all
19:18life, if you're willing to accept its embrace.
19:32If you love games, be sure to check out WatchMojo's new game Terrible Influence,
19:37just launched for purchase at TerribleInfluence.com. Terrible Influence is a satirical board game about the
19:42dark side of fame from the writer of the most popular girls in school and us, WatchMojo.
19:47Boom. I can make an apology video.
19:50Oh, you so would.
19:51Click on the link in the description to check out the game and be the first to play Terrible Influence.
19:56Vault 11, Fallout New Vegas. The wasteland is gruesome. Vault 11 is worse. Its residents were told
20:05that every year they had to sacrifice one person or the vault computer would kill everyone. So,
20:10they created elections where becoming overseer effectively meant receiving a death sentence.
20:16Congratulations, Martyr. Your fantastic journey is only just beginning. Please proceed to the light.
20:24Political factions formed, people were manipulated, violence escalated. Eventually,
20:29only five survivors remained and they finally refused to sacrifice anyone.
20:34There's five of us left. Five out of I don't know how many. So, it's over.
20:40That's when Vault-Tec revealed the truth. Nobody would have died. The entire experiment was testing
20:46whether the population would eventually reject the order. Had they refused from the beginning,
20:50they would have been congratulated and allowed to leave. You discover all this while exploring the
20:55abandoned sacrificial chamber. No monsters required, just ordinary people coerced into destroying
21:01themselves. Here at Vault-Tec, your safety is our number one priority.
