Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney pushes back against Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre with data while defending his government’s vision for the country. In a heated political exchange, Carney emphasizes Canada’s economic priorities, growth strategy, and plans to strengthen the nation amid ongoing debates over affordability, jobs, and the cost of living. His remarks highlight the contrasting approaches of the Liberal government and the Conservative opposition as they debate Canada’s future. With Poilievre challenging the government’s record, Carney responds by pointing to figures and policy arguments to support his position.

00:00The Speaker, and all Canadians, a beautiful Thanksgiving.
00:03But Canadians will not want to give thanks when they walk down the grocery aisles and
00:07find out the cost of a Thanksgiving meal is up 10% since last year, all under this Prime
00:14Minister's leadership, since he promised that he would be judged by the prices at the grocery
00:19store.
00:19He's out of touch, and Canadians are out of money.
00:22We've heard all of the grand promises and the big spending, but will Canadians who sit
00:28around that table with empty wallets want to know is when will they have the result of
00:32affordable food?
00:34Mr. Speaker, I join the Leader of the Opposition in wishing all Canadians a happy Thanksgiving.
00:43Twelve million Canadians will have just received from the Government of Canada the essentials
00:49benefit, $170 for an individual.
00:53Twenty-two million Canadians have had their taxes cut.
00:58All Canadian families, on average, $20,000 in support.
01:03Child care, national food program, dental care, national child benefit.
01:08That is a country that takes care of each other.
01:11That's a country to be thankful for.
01:12Thank you very much.
01:18The Honourable Leader of the Opposition.
01:20He is out of touch, and you are out of money.
01:24Mr. Speaker, giving back a tiny fraction of what the Government takes away will not even
01:28cover one mortgage payment.
01:30And that is if you can afford a home.
01:33Today, we have a report from Habitat for Humanity that did a survey of 22 nations and found that
01:41Canadians were the most likely to have given up on the dream of a home ownership.
01:45Fifty-six percent believe they will never own a home, twice the average of the international
01:50community.
01:51This after the Prime Minister promised that housing would be affordable.
01:55When will we have an end to the promises and of home ownership?
02:00Mr. Speaker, I have to keep reminding the Leader of the Opposition that I just got here.
02:12He's been here for a while.
02:14Every single month, every single month that this Government has been in office.
02:23Speaking of Thanksgiving, I'd be thankful if Members could hold it down just a little
02:39bit.
02:40The Right Honourable Prime Minister from the top, please.
02:43Mr. Speaker, I would note the Leader of the Opposition 240 months and counting 18 months.
02:53What's happened in those 18 months?
02:55Every single month, rental affordability has improved in this country.
03:00Every single month, housing affordability has improved in this country.
03:04Jobs are up.
03:05The economy is up.
03:16The Honourable Leader of the Opposition.
03:18The guy who said he was going to build at unimaginable speeds says he just got here after 18 months,
03:27Mr. Speaker.
03:27It's not that he has failed to make things better after the 10 years of Liberal government
03:32that he helped advise on.
03:34It's that things are getting so much worse.
03:37Rent is up 86 percent.
03:4086 percent almost double from $970 to $1,800 today.
03:46This Prime Minister is now leading an economy where the largest number of Canadians have given up on home ownership.
03:52When will we have an end to the big talk and actually get some home ownership results?
04:02Mr. Speaker, every single month that this government has been in office, rental affordability has improved.
04:13Every single month that this government has been in office, housing affordability has improved.
04:18It's gone from 54 percent of disposable income to the low 40 percent of disposable income on average in this
04:26country.
04:27There is more to do.
04:28There is more to do, Mr. Speaker.
04:30But we have momentum.
04:31We are building Canada.
04:35The Honourable Leader of the Opposition.
04:39I'll turn it over to you, the people out there.
04:41Is your rent payment really going down?
04:43Is your mortgage payment really going down?
04:46Is anything really getting built?
04:49Where are the results in your life back home, Mr. Speaker?
04:53This is the Prime Minister who set up a new bureaucracy that he said would double home construction to 500
04:59,000 a year.
05:00It's built only 2,000 homes, Mr. Speaker.
05:05Not even a drop in the bucket.
05:08And home building is down 4 percent year over year.
05:12Will the Prime Minister stop with the big promises and the big spending and actually deliver some real results?
05:19Just a reminder to go through the chair, even when using rhetorical devices.
05:26The right Honourable Prime Minister.
05:29Mueller?
05:30Anyone?
05:31Mr. Speaker, I apologize.
05:34I just got here, so I don't know all the rules.
05:38I was not referring to the Prime Minister.
05:41I was not referring to the Prime Minister.
05:42The Prime Minister may answer the question.
