00:00And in the history of the World Heavyweight Championship,
00:03it has never been decided in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match.
00:08It will be tonight at One Night Stand.
00:14If you notice, Michael,
00:15there was no name on that World Heavyweight Championship.
00:19It is vacant, stripped of The Undertaker after Backlash.
00:26This contest is a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match
00:31for the World Heavyweight Championship.
00:35You think you know me?
01:16You're looking at a four-time champion.
01:20Edge is the master of tables.
01:23Ladders, and Chairs, he has an impeccable record, and Mick, Edge has gotta be
01:30considered, in my mind, a favorite coming into this match tonight.
01:33And can you even think of the last time The Undertaker headed into a match as
01:38The Underdog?
01:41Undertaker has never been involved in a TLC matchup.
01:44Edge has been in almost everyone in history.
01:46And Mick, did you think when you were commissioner eight years ago,
01:50when you first put this table, ladders, and chairs match together,
01:54that it would mean something like this, that it would be the world title,
01:58that it could mean The Undertaker's career?
02:01There is no way anyone could have conceived of how important that match would become
02:06in the annals of WWE history, and never more important than tonight at One Night Stand.
02:21And for Edge, the devastating setbacks he suffered at WrestleMania,
02:26and Backlash have to seem a long, long ways away.
02:31The Rated R Superstar is obsessed with that.
02:35He is obsessed with being world champion.
02:38Edge is also obsessed with ridding himself of the Phenom, The Undertaker.
02:45Edge has the opportunity to accomplish both things tonight, win that title,
02:50and rid the WWE in his words of The Undertaker forever.
02:55And that's something I don't think any of us want to see.
02:58The Undertaker's meant so much during his tenure here at WWE.
03:01It's hard to imagine the WWE without the Phenom.
03:27The Undertaker is a good candidate for that,
03:27but theoney's new team.
03:28But thank you for the day,
03:28and we'veby the new player to the T-U-L-M-S-B.
03:36The Undertaker is a successful player.
03:36And the other player is for the stamina of the year.
03:36And the зрamer, the fourth player has been personne-E-S-B.
03:44The Undertaker is a successful player.
03:44The Undertaker is a successful player,
04:13In the history of
04:14World Wrestling Entertainment, no one had ever been stripped of the World Heavyweight
04:19title before The Undertaker.
04:23The Phenom is a wronged man, robbed and
04:28plundered by Vickie and Edge over the past month.
04:32And now the world title and the career of this legendary
04:3718-year veteran hangs in the balance.
04:43Well, in a fair world, that World Heavyweight Championship would not be suspended 20 feet
04:49above the ring, would be strapped around the waist of the dead man.
04:53But he has overcome so much adversity just to make it to one night stand.
04:57Never want to discount his chances in any type of match.
05:07As we said, there is no name on that championship.
05:13But one man tonight will leave with the heavyweight championship goal.
05:34Absolutely bone-chilly.
05:37It is awe-inspiring, the entrance of The Phenom.
05:42But the question is, is that the final time?
05:46Is that the last time that we will ever experience, that we will ever witness the entrance of The
05:54Undertaker?
05:55Well, it could well be.
05:57For the past few days, I've been trying to imagine what my life, not only my career,
06:02but what my life would be like had The Undertaker not been in it.
06:05And trying to imagine what WWE would be without The Undertaker in it.
06:10Mick Foley, you began your career by attacking The Undertaker here at WWE.
06:15You have been involved in so many matches with this man, from boiler room brawls,
06:19the Buried Alive matches, and of course, the now infamous Hell in a Cell match.
06:23But you've also been involved over your career in many great matches with Edge.
06:28In this match, tables, ladders, and chairs.
06:31In your expert opinion, who has The Edge?
06:41That's a tough, almost impossible call to make in any other type of match.
06:46Edge, I'd have to pick The Undertaker, but I think this match slightly favors Edge.
06:59Each of the challengers first, from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, weighing 250 pounds,
07:06he is the Rated-R Superstar, Edge.
07:15And his opponent, from Death Valley, weighing 299 pounds, The Undertaker.
07:28Michael, we mentioned earlier this might be The Undertaker's last match in WWE.
07:34But if I was a betting man, I don't think I would ever bet against The Undertaker.
07:39It has come down to this.
07:40The lives of these two men have intertwined for more than a year over the world title.
07:45And Edge, that scavenger taking the world championship from The Undertaker last May,
07:50and the battle is in some sense.
07:51And The Undertaker looking to use the power game early on.
07:55Again, make the rules.
07:57Tables, ladders, and chairs can be used as weapons.
07:59But you also need the ladder to set it up in the middle of the ring to get to the
08:03world title.
08:03When you unhook it, you become champion.
08:05Well, you sure do.
08:06And we just saw Undertaker landing some heavy bombs to the midsection in the ribs of Edge.
08:10And I'll tell you, it'd be very tough to climb that ladder with broken ribs.
08:14It's tough to do anything.
08:18Undertaker, perhaps looking to put Edge away early because of Edge's experience in these matches, Mick.
08:25Well, he's not likely to put him away with any one power move.
08:28In some ways, this is like the stretcher match.
08:30You need to incapacitate your opponent to the point where you can bring that ladder inside
08:35and start that long climb to the top.
08:40Undertaker has never been in a table, ladders, and chairs match before.
08:43But we've talked about the adaptation and evolution of this man, and if he ever needs to evolve,
08:50it is here tonight with the world title and his career on the line.
08:54Well, The Undertaker has learned how not only to survive, but to thrive in so many situations.
08:58He's actually become the standard bearer of so many great matches,
09:02whether it be the Buried Alive match or the Hell in a Cell match.
09:06The Undertaker has set the bar so high, not to mention the casket match.
09:10Undertaker going to old school early.
09:14And this is the type of offense Undertaker needs to score with early and
09:18often to get that ladder inside the ring.
09:19And the six time champion The Undertaker looking to wear Edge down.
09:23And getting the ladder in the ring, Mick, what type of strategy do you use in this match?
09:28I think for The Undertaker, it's simple.
09:30He is simply going to try to put the type of beating on Edge that will allow him to climb
09:36the ladder.
09:37Edge, a guy who takes great pride in this type of match, he may try to dissect The Undertaker,
09:41may actually try to prove, and there's Edge.
09:44And there is that veteran instinct of Edge.
09:46He's been involved in these matches before.
09:48He knows what type of damage tables, chairs, and, as you saw, ladders can do.
09:53And in some ways, this is like a stretcher match, because I mentioned earlier,
09:56the stretcher was not only a means of transportation, it could be used as a weapon as well.
10:00In this match, the ladder is not only a climbing apparatus, it's a way to inflict real punishment.
10:05And Edge involved in so many of these knows how to inflict punishment in TLC matches,
10:10and Edge setting the table, so to speak.
10:16That's a Taker.
10:18He's lying in weight, it seems.
10:31And sometimes the shenanigans of Edge and La Familia overshadows the fact
10:36that this is an incredible athlete and a man of intense pride.
10:39Watch this show.
10:44And I know it would mean so much to Edge, not only to win this match and
10:48to recapture the World Heavyweight Championship, but
10:50to be the man who put The Undertaker away forever.
10:54Well, it's ironic, Mick, that Vicky Guerrero did not award The Undertaker
10:57the title back at Judgment Day.
10:59She said it must be won by pinfall or submission, yet she makes this matchup tonight
11:03because it involves pinfall or submission.
11:04Right, but as is the case with Vicky Guerrero, so many times she makes great
11:08matches for the worst reasons.
11:10Maybe this match doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but it's going to be dramatic.
11:16And someone's going to get hurt.
11:17Well, Edge had set the table for two, and Undertaker apparently setting it for four.
11:23And who knows what's going through the mind of the dead man.
11:26He's so much a party, so firmly entrenched in the fabric of WWE that I dread to think
11:32of what this place would be like without him.
11:33Well, you may find out, if Undertaker cannot win this match, he'll be gone forever.
11:41Undertaker methodically taking his time, and it may have cost him.
11:44Good job, Edge.
11:45Good job, baby.
11:46Edge the Predator, a scavenger at times.
11:51You can do it, I've got this.
11:54But there is no doubt the ultimate opportunist.
11:56Now let me bring up a point here, we've talked about the draft coming up.
12:00Now if the Undertaker loses this match, he's excluded from the draft.
12:04Exactly.
12:04We're not gonna see the dead man back here in a few weeks on a different show.
12:08This is do or die time for the dead man.
12:10He's out of World Wrestling Entertainment forever.
12:12And Undertaker down and out outside the ring.
12:14And now Edge is the first one to set up the ladder, perhaps attempting to climb.
12:17If he climbs the ladder and grabs the world title, unhooks it, gets it down.
12:21Edge will be champion for a fifth time.
12:23Here we go, Michael Cole.
12:24And Edge climbing the ladder.
12:25Undertaker realizing that desperate times called-
12:30Oh, desperate measures.
12:34Edge may have momentarily forgotten about the Undertaker's capacity to absorb punishment.
12:42Edge has committed so many crimes against the Undertaker over the past year.
12:47For the Undertaker, this would be ultimate form of punishment to win this match,
12:51Edge's match, here at One Night Stand.
12:54Now we can only hope that should Undertaker prevail, that somehow, some way,
12:58there'd be a new- Uh-oh.
13:00There'd be a new balance of power on SmackDown.
13:04And Undertaker looked like he was going for Snake Eyes, but
13:07he got the ladder right between his eyes.
13:10Edge with a great counter.
13:14You know, for so many years, Edge told me he felt like this match unfairly
13:18characterized and kind of typecast him as the TLC guy and prevented him from being
13:23taken seriously as a World Heavyweight Championship contender.
13:26How ironic is that, that he could win the title in his specialty match?
13:30And knowing Edge the way I do, it would be sweet revenge,
13:33the most important victory in his long storied career.
13:37The very cunning Edge.
13:40What he's got planned here.
13:42We can only- Oh!
13:44It's the hidden play on that, Cole.
13:48Edge skull first off the front of that ladder.
13:52And now it's Undertaker suddenly in control.
13:55But let's not forget what I would consider Edge's very underrated capacity to absorb
14:00punishment of his own.
14:02He's been in all these matches, but one in the history of TLC.
14:06McNett in itself shows the amount of punishment that he can afford.
14:09And I guess I've learned that better than anybody firsthand at WrestleMania 22.
14:13In that hardcore match.
14:14Where Edge just kept coming back and coming back and coming back.
14:18But you also know the resilience of this man- Yeah.
14:20The Undertaker climbing the ladder, trying to get to the world title.
14:23Edge realizing what's at stake.
14:26One, two, three, four.
14:28Both men nearing the top of that steal.
14:32One, two, three, four.
14:33And it could be the opening.
14:36Undertaker looked to take advantage on Edge's counter.
14:39Whether it was out of strict instinct, desperation, or whatever,
14:42Edge had the wherewithal to bounce off the ladder, to shift his balance and momentum,
14:47and perhaps save himself the championship.
14:50Or a combination of all three.
14:51As I mentioned, I learned firsthand how much punishment Edge could take.
14:55But the offense I could provide at WrestleMania 22 was a far cry from what the phenom can provide.
15:01A man at the top of his game with everything to lose.
15:12Our fans in San Diego sold out realized what's at stake as well.
15:16The 18 year career of The Undertaker, the World Heavyweight Championship.
15:22State guys capitalized.
15:26Well, so many in attendance here in San Diego, millions watching around the world,
15:30have literally grown up with this man on Friday nights.
15:33What a profound sense of loss everyone would feel.
15:36So many would feel.
15:37Should this be the last time we see him back?
15:39No!
15:49Undertaker using the ladder and his big boot as a weapon.
15:54And you kind of feel, Nick, that the momentum is shifting into The Undertaker's portal here.
16:00A lesser man may have tried to climb once again, but Undertaker perhaps sensing that
16:05now is the time to take advantage of a weakened foe.
16:08Well, it's about the moral title, but it's also about punishing Edge for his sense.
16:12Here's where the C in TLC.
16:16Did you hear that smacking the flesh?
16:21Thundering across the spine.
16:23And that is the type of blow that will just sap the strength and the will out of any opponent,
16:29even one as tough and resilient as Edge.
16:31And you gotta wonder what's going through the mind of The Undertaker as he glances
16:34around this arena, looks at all the weapons that are available for him to use.
16:44Edge prone,
16:46half his body hanging over the apron as we take.
16:49Oh, that's just ungodly, Cole.
16:51And look at Undertaker, Undertaker, 300 pounds going for the legs, and Edge countered.
16:59Edge with the wherewithal to get the steel chair up, and I believe right under the knee of The Undertaker.
17:05And we referred to it before as his instinct on Edge's part.
17:09He knows this ring so well, he knows this match so well.
17:13And the ultimate opportunist looks to take advantage of the opportunity.
17:18Watch Edge.
17:20No, no, just in time.
17:22Steel chair right under the back of the knee.
17:24And Edge knows his opponent so well.
17:27I don't think that was instinct.
17:29I think that was the cunning of Edge, knew exactly what he was doing.
17:33And we'll have to see how that move plays itself out here.
17:36And now Edge, who knows the ins and outs of this match.
17:39This is where Edge becomes dangerous.
17:41He knows how to use the ladder as a weapon in every part of the arena.
17:46Come on, give him the last ride.
17:48Uh-oh, Undertaker.
17:49Oh, no.
17:50This, oh, and a low blow.
17:52Layton low blow.
17:54Legal under extreme rules.
17:58Undertaker had bad intentions.
18:00Looked like he was going for the last ride with a ladder in his sights.
18:10And given what's at stake, you can hardly blame Edge for resorting to the blatant low blow.
18:22Coming into this, everyone knew what the stakes were.
18:24Tables, ladders, and chairs for the world title.
18:28Well, they knew the stakes, and they have never been higher.
18:35You can hear the sickening thud of the steel chair to the Undertaker's skull.
18:41And perhaps Edge is closing in on his fifth title reign.
18:47Edge wobbly, but walking with purpose nonetheless after teeing off with a home run swing like
18:53they've seen at Petco Park.
18:55We've seen the ladders used.
18:57We've seen the table, the chairs used, just like this.
19:05And now Edge looking to implement the tables into this matchup.
19:11A blow like that would knock any other man out.
19:17Another!
19:19That's got to be it, Cole.
19:20I believe at this point Edge could leisurely set up a ladder and climb at his own pace.
19:27Undertaker's eyes were glassed over moments ago.
19:35A vicious shot from Edge.
19:40And Undertaker, almost the punch drunk here in front of us,
19:44just instinctively keeping his hands up.
19:48The huge frame of the Undertaker now resting on that table.
19:53What the hell is Edge doing here?
19:54No, Edge!
19:57A frog splash off the announce desk to the table!
20:08Cole, Edge knows he needs to take these type of risks in a match with this much at stake.
20:13And that's a perfect example, willing to damage to himself to damage his opponent.
20:18You take another look, the table buckling.
20:23Undertaker in deep, deep trouble.
20:26The World Heavyweight Championship hangs over the ring.
20:30And Edge, setting up the ladder to try to climb for the gold.
20:35The skull of the Undertaker was the recipient of two brutal chair shots.
20:41And now the dead man has been laid out as Edge makes his way up to championship glory.
20:46Undertaker trying to make it back into the ring, and he does.
20:50Edge near the top of the ladder, and it's Undertaker this time.
20:55From out of nowhere, Edge spearing the Undertaker.
20:59And is that the death nail to the Phenom?
21:18It appears to me like Edge is going to use this ladder as an offensive weapon.
21:23Maybe singling out that knee that we saw struck a few minutes ago.
21:27And if you take the knee out, I should say, what that means is the Undertaker.
21:31Well, he can't use it to climb the ladder to win the title.
21:34How are you going to climb the ladder without a knee?
21:37Man.
21:37A concerto.
21:39A version of it.
21:45A third time.
21:50That's an excellent point, Michael.
21:52That championship is so high in the air.
21:55Either man has to take many steps to proceed up the ladder to grasp it.
22:00One, two, three, four.
22:04We hear The Undertaker grow.
22:11And the ultimate opportunist is a model of efficiency as he takes his time.
22:18One, two, three, four.
22:19Taking apart The Undertaker.
22:21Look at the size of that ladder, Michael.
22:24And Edge, Edge setting it up.
22:26All he's got to do is climb to that top rung and he'll be able to easily take the goal
22:29down.
22:41Undertaker somehow had made it back to his feet.
22:45But then a crushing chair to the skull, not once but twice.
22:49How many chair shots can this man take?
22:54This is a match that's not only testing the boundaries of human endurance,
22:58but humanity's ability to inflict punishment as well.
23:04The master of TLC, Edge is showing why.
23:11The Undertaker is motionless.
23:14Not another chair shot from Edge.
23:20Oh, my lord.
23:22Well, one more of these, Michael, and his health could be in serious jeopardy.
23:25And they already be, it's it, Undertaker's set up, and a little payback.
23:32And could this be the opening for the Phenome?
23:38He's feeling out that damaged leg.
23:40Now, The Undertaker has a reservoir of guts and heart that most of us can simply not comprehend.
23:45But will it be enough to overcome the devastation that he has faced here tonight?
23:50The resilience of The Undertaker has been storied.
23:55Undertaker, with Edge, amazing chokeslam into the ladder.
24:00Did you see the ladder buckle and bow as Edge's body cracks through it?
24:08And it was the small of his back.
24:10All of that force concentrated on one small vital part of Edge's anatomy.
24:15Look at Edge's body.
24:16Look at how it's twisted and turned.
24:18Broken.
24:19And Undertaker, no one's gonna stop The Undertaker.
24:22On one leg.
24:23He's gonna try to calm the ladder.
24:26My God.
24:27No, come on.
24:28Hawkins and Ryder.
24:29Edge's buddies, Hawkins and Ryder.
24:32And a moment when The Undertaker had this match won.
24:35And a mugging.
24:38Under extreme rules, you can't know anything about it.
24:41But a mugging by Hawkins and Ryder.
24:46Just when The Undertaker was closing in on the world title.
24:54You have to think that this was a preconceived act of cruelty here, Cole.
24:59Desperation measure to save their man from certain defeat.
25:02Well, you saw how Edge's body was contorted after going through the ladder outside the ring.
25:07Hawkins and Ryder realized it.
25:09Coming to the rescue of the man.
25:11And now, looking at damage and destroy the phenom.
25:17And what this does, it buys Edge time to try to recuperate outside the ring.
25:21Here's the chokeslam again.
25:23And look at the body of Edge, just twisting.
25:26And Edge will need to have a lot of time bought.
25:31After that devastating impact.
25:33What in the world?
25:35What the hell is this?
25:40That is Hawkins going to the top rope.
25:43Roger Pryce and The Undertaker.
25:45One of them, Undertaker.
25:48And Hawkins didn't see Undertaker in the other place.
25:50It goes away.
25:52My goodness.
25:54Head first to the table.
26:03Undertaker sending Hawkins' heads and shoulders first through the table outside the ring.
26:08And now it may be Ryder's time.
26:11To take a ride.
26:16Partage screwed through the sports arena.
26:19But now Edge has slid in.
26:23Perhaps Ryder and Hawkins did their part.
26:27A spear.
26:28A spear by Edge.
26:31Undertaker's bad knee crashing into that barricade.
26:35The retaining wall.
26:36It is that all Edge needs to reclaim the championship.
26:42Watch this.
26:43The height that Hawkins flew.
26:50Unbelievable strength and resiliency on the part of The Undertaker.
26:57Edge, you setting the tables again in the ring.
27:00Undertaker just struggling outside the ring with a bad knee.
27:04But I think, Michael, we simply reach a point where the boundaries of human endurance cannot be reached.
27:13And Edge, Edge trying desperately to climb the ladder.
27:17Trying to climb to the world title.
27:19Remember the premise that his body's gone through.
27:21And the chase is on.
27:24It's Edge climbing to the top of the ladder.
27:26Undertaker somehow really in his way back into the ring.
27:30Edge is there.
27:31Does he have time?
27:31He's three feet from glory here, Cole.
27:34Edge is near the title.
27:35He's got his hands on the title.
27:40And it's Undertaker climbing the ladder as well.
27:44On one leg.
27:46Oh, my God.
27:47He's gonna send him for a ride.
27:49A last ride.
27:50A last ride.
27:53Through two tables.
28:09Let's go.
28:13And Undertaker, Undertaker was looking up at the door.
28:17And Edge crashed through the table.
28:19And now the Phenom, gonna climb the ladder.
28:22But this is where that knee injury comes in.
28:24Look, the Deadman simply cannot brace on that injured knee.
28:27But if anybody has the willpower, if anybody has the will and the way, hey!
28:33The Amelia and Charles Guerrero left for Amelia in front of us.
28:39Like a pack of angry rabbit dogs left for Amelia.
28:44Stealing the championship from The Undertaker's grasp.
28:47And by all rights, this match should be over.
28:50And we should be celebrating the championship reign of The Undertaker.
29:00The Undertaker is the champion.
29:01No, no, no, no.
29:05I would not want to be Van Neelie about right now.
29:11Tyler, there are bodies screwed everywhere.
29:18The Phenom has destroyed La Familia.
29:24Single-handedly, The Undertaker has littered this ring with bodies.
29:29Undertaker on one leg, climbing toward the world title.
29:34The Phenom, a matter of moments, moments away from recapturing the gold that
29:41was unceremoniously stripped from him.
29:46He's on one leg.
29:47He was, he was, he was, he was.
29:50Oh, no!
30:09The Undertaker was seemingly closing out of the world championship.
30:14Just when you thought that nothing, nothing could stop The Undertaker.
30:19That unheralded ability of Edge, with the help of some friends,
30:22to withstand punishment and go on, comes into play.
30:30Oh, no.
30:33Edge, The Undertaker is out.
30:36Edge is climbing to the world title, with one watchful eye on the Phenom.
30:42But the ultimate opportunist, looking to take advantage of the greatest
30:46opportunity of his career, not only to win the world title.
30:54Edge is there, Edge is the world champion.
30:59The winner of this match, a new World Heavyweight Champion,
31:06the Rated R Superstar, Edge.
31:15An absolutely stunning,
31:20startling, shocking moment.
31:25Michael, I need to tell you, it seems as if the impossible has happened here tonight.
31:33And the man who has come to characterize everything that is good,
31:37but not only SmackDown, but WWE has seen his last moment inside the WWE ring.
31:48The Rated R Superstar, The Master Manipulator Edge, has won the world title yet again.
32:05But even more importantly, Michael, he's done it at the expense of the career of The Undertaker.
32:13And he did it with the help of four friends.
32:24Here was me for the shocking ending.
32:27Undertaker closing out the world title.
32:29Oh, and the ultimate opportunist struck again.
32:34Says it must.
32:36The Undertaker in the court, so much punishment meant to this matchup,
32:41that he could not well stand back.
32:43Unfortunately, that's a case where The Undertaker's size and height worked against him,
32:47because the higher he got up on that ladder, the more science seemed to work against him,
32:51the easier it was for Edge to make that one dastardly attempt and come up with the Heavyweight Championship.
32:57An absolute look of disbelief in the eyes of the new champion as well.
33:03And what a, what he accomplished tonight in there, the general manager.
33:08And she secured, apparently, miraculously cured.
33:10The general manager, the fiance of Edge, Vicky Guerrero.
33:18Now Edge wrestled his heart out, but the problem here, as I've said before,
33:22the edge, the edge, the ends just in my dream.
33:34This whole thing is totally surreal.
33:41The Rating R era beginning for a, for a big time, but ladies and gentlemen,
33:48Michael, it's a night of extremes that we will never forget.
33:53But nothing more extreme than the sense of loss, I think we all feel here.
33:58And knowing we've maybe seen the last, possibly the greatest WWE superstar in history.
34:04Yeah, I'm severe.
34:09I'm severe.
34:10Oh, my God.
34:18Oh, my God.
34:25Come on, Undertaker.
34:28Oh, my God.
34:32Oh, my God.
34:32Oh, my God.
34:33Come on.
34:33One more time.
35:06One more time.
35:36One more time.
36:08The career of The Undertaker is dead, but his legacy will live forever.
