00:00Here in downtown Pensacola, we get the power surges, so we'll get the power up, and then we lose it
00:06for a few minutes, and then it comes back.
00:07I want to show you just how severe downtown Pensacola is already at this point.
00:13There are trees down everywhere.
00:14We're going to try and walk with you slowly.
00:16We know service isn't the best around here, but on nearly every block in downtown Pensacola, Andy, follow me this
00:22way, you're going to see down trees like this one.
00:25So, again, we're on one block now.
00:27Now, follow me this way.
00:29Now, look at this, Andy, right here.
00:31These are literally streetlights that have gone flown off and are completely broken on the roads here.
00:36There's glass pretty much everywhere.
00:38Andy, just be careful where you're walking here.
00:41Let's just go over these branches.
00:42Again, debris pretty much everywhere on the streets.
00:45You've got trash cans in the roads here.
00:47If you look at the distance over there, you've got another tree down there.
00:50I mean, this is downtown Pensacola for you.
00:53I mean, it really is remarkable.
00:55Again, we talk about just how severe conditions can really get here when you're talking about wind gusts, anywhere from
01:01100, 150 mile per hour wind gusts.
01:04I mean, it really is intense at times.
01:06You also talk about the storm surge we were showing you over by the Pensacola Bay earlier.
01:11There are some low-lying areas here that are going to see some significant flooding.
01:17We've also been listening to scanner radio, too.
01:20We know that there were possible incidents in this area where first responders needed to get to homes in the
01:27area.
01:27And we saw with our own eyes people that were in their homes very close to the Pensacola Bay that
01:33realized really quickly that being inside their homes actually was not the safest option.
01:38And they grabbed their things, got into the car, and took off, hopefully getting to one of the closest or
01:44nearest shelters, which, by the way, are still open if people need to get to this evening.
01:49That is an option if those that are watching on AccuWeather and potentially are in this area, if you feel
01:56that being at home is not the safest option for you and you've hunkered down, first responders are saying here
02:02that shelters are open for you to get to if that needs to be the absolute worst-case scenario.
02:08I just saw your signal then.
02:12Looks pretty significant.
02:15Is that localized, or do you think that's widespread in the city?
02:22No, this is widespread, Bernie.
02:24I mean, Andy, follow me this way for one second.
02:26I want to show you something.
02:28Hold on.
02:29Take a look down the street here.
02:31Again, it is hard to tell because it is really dark here, but all the way down the street, you
02:36have trees down everywhere.
02:38I mean, this is downtown Pensacola.
02:41Every block you go, you're pretty much blocked in here with trees, debris down essentially everywhere.
02:49One more thing.
02:50Andy, follow me for one more second.
02:51I want to show you this, Bernie, too.
02:53Again, this is kind of like one of the main areas here.
02:55This is a big park in town.
02:57It's really dark, but if you can try and zoom in there, Andy, pretty much, I mean, look at that.
03:02It's, it's, you can't see anything in there.
03:04I mean, there's just trees and debris down everywhere, and I, I, what I'm most concerned about, and maybe an
03:12area that we'd potentially try and get to now that we're seeing at least some real, the positive here, where
03:18we are currently in downtown, partially because you've got the buildings here.
03:22We don't have the crazy wind that we were experiencing, experiencing closer to the Pensacola Bay, but what I would
03:29like to do is maybe try and get over for you guys in the next hour or so to one
03:34of those low-lying neighborhoods.
03:35One of the biggest concerns that I knew was going to be a problem there was that storm surge that
03:40we're talking about.
03:40When you have storm surge, that leads to flooding, and there are a lot of homes over there that I'm
03:45really worried about, so I'd be interested in getting back over into those neighborhoods and seeing how some of those
03:50families are holding up.
03:52All right, Allie Reed in Pensacola, a different perspective.
03:56So Bill Waddell, closer to the barrier island, Allie Reed, Inland, two different shots, one showing a lot of damage.
04:05Allie, great stuff.
04:06Sorry, Pensacola's dealing with this, but let's stay, keep in touch with us and give us an idea if you
04:12see anything else.
04:13All right, Allie Reed, great job, Allie.
04:15Stay safe.
