00:00Leadership is appalling. He's corrupt. He's probably senile. He's a felon. He's a convicted felon.
00:10He clearly, if he had to make a choice between the future of humanity and him and his family getting
00:16rich, which do you think he'd go for?
00:19President Trump has talked a lot about AI. He had a gathering last week at the White House with all
00:25of the tech executives.
00:27Do you think he understands the complexities of AI?
00:33Serious question.
00:35Let me answer that in a roundabout way.
00:40He redefined AI as superintelligence.
00:43Now, superintelligence is a technical term that means smarter than people, right?
00:46You can't just take AI and say, we're going to call it superintelligence.
00:50Apparently, you can because all government agencies are now required to call it superintelligence, even though it's not.
00:55When he's on a roll, he could make life much easier when you're at school because you all probably remember
01:01that pi is something like 3.14 and it's complicated to do math with it.
01:06Trump should just simply define it to be three. That will make life much easier.
01:11Oh, one other thing.
01:13One other thing about this is there was a Roman emperor who appointed a horse to the Senate, which was
01:19a sort of...
01:21I guess he was doing it to show that he could, and it was to kind of screw you to
01:25the Senate.
01:28Trump appointed a secretary of education who can't spell AI if you give her the first letter.
01:46So, let's talk about where we're going.
01:48You have been widely quoted.
01:49I'm going to share with the audience some of what you said.
01:51Your words.
01:52If we do not figure out how to make it safe, there is a real possibility it could destroy us.
01:58How so?
02:00So, okay.
02:01So, one could go into all the ways it could destroy us, and there are many.
02:06I don't think there's much point doing that because there's so many ways it will be so simple, and here's
02:12my argument.
02:13Suppose you work for a class of two-year-olds, and you eventually get fed up with them, and you
02:22decide to destroy them.
02:23How could you destroy a bunch of two-year-olds?
02:27Well, there's so many ways you could do it.
02:29You could poison them.
02:30You could hit them over the head with a hammer.
02:31You could get a flute, and you could walk off a cliff with them coming behind you.
02:36That would be one of the nicer ways to do it.
02:38There's so many ways you could do it.
02:39If an AI is much smarter than us, and it wants to get rid of us, there'd be no problem.
02:44It could design a biological virus.
02:46It could do massive cyber attacks.
02:48It could turn us all against each other.
02:50Well, that's happened already.
02:53So, yeah, I don't think it's really worth speculating, but there are some obvious ways, like a massive cyber attacks
02:59would bring down everything.
03:00They probably wouldn't want that because they'd stop working too.
03:03A biological virus that got rid of people, well, they wouldn't want to get rid of the people that run
03:08the power stations.
03:09So then you get into all these details, and the details aren't really relevant.
03:12The point is, if you've got something much more intelligent than you, and it wants to destroy you, it will.
