00:00:34I do. I love it. I love it. I love it.
00:00:36Welcome to the Raw recap. Sam Roberts, Megan Morant here coming immediately off of Monday Night Raw.
00:00:44And more specifically, the main event that was advertised for a couple weeks.
00:00:48But you could smell it coming for, I don't know, a month, month and a half.
00:00:53Going back to when they announced this tournament.
00:00:56Back to when Rey Mysterio pulled Roman Reigns aside and he said, Jefe.
00:01:01He said, Tribal Chief.
00:01:03He said, let me ask you, let me talk to you about business.
00:01:06Let me bend your ear a little bit.
00:01:07That's the night Roman Reigns found out he was general manager of AAA.
00:01:11He called him Jefe?
00:01:12Rey did? It was implied, I believe. It was a paraphrase.
00:01:15You weren't there, but, you know.
00:01:16No, I wasn't there, but it was a paraphrase.
00:01:18You called him, yep.
00:01:19That was the spirit of the conversation, anyway.
00:01:21And we find out there's going to be this luchador tournament involving stars from Raw and SmackDown and AAA.
00:01:28And we watch the semifinals and the quarterfinals and the final all going out across Monday Night Raw, SmackDown, and
00:01:37AAA.
00:01:38And it was an incredible tournament.
00:01:39Unbelievable tournament.
00:01:40La Parca, Psycho Clown, everybody was there.
00:01:43And it boils down to Penta and his brother, Rey Fenix.
00:01:48And Penta wins, and the announcement is made that with that tournament victory, Penta headlines Monday Night Raw in Mexico
00:01:58City wrestling Roman Reigns in the main event for the World Heavyweight Championship.
00:02:04I mean, we talk about the differences, and we will spend some time tonight talking about what's going on on
00:02:12SmackDown with the WWE Championship.
00:02:14But there are big differences with that championship and the way CM Punk carried himself as a champion versus the
00:02:22World Heavyweight Championship and the way Roman Reigns carries himself as a champion.
00:02:28Roman Reigns feels that just being in a match with Roman Reigns is a prize into and of itself.
00:02:37And therefore, he asked that question of challengers.
00:02:40What have you done to even be in this conversation?
00:02:43What have you done to deserve getting the time of day from me?
00:02:47That was the first thing he asked Seth Rollins when Seth Rollins stepped up to him.
00:02:51It was also the first thing he asked LA Knight when LA Knight stepped up to him.
00:02:54But it's not what he said to Penta just last week going in.
00:02:58Nope.
00:02:58He said Penta and Rey, whoever won that match.
00:03:02He talked about how that's what we should be focused on.
00:03:04Yes.
00:03:05We should be talking about guys like Rey Fenix.
00:03:07We should be talking about guys like Penta who have earned the right.
00:03:11Do you think just stepping into the ring with Roman Reigns in this context elevated Penta?
00:03:19Of course.
00:03:20Yeah.
00:03:21Of course it elevated Penta.
00:03:22I mean, we sat here in the studio speculating wildly as we do after Penta advanced in the
00:03:29tournament that punches ticket to the main event of Mexico City, Monday Night Raw.
00:03:35And we talked about will he hit a Mexican destroyer on Roman Reigns?
00:03:40I mean, even if he didn't, just that entrance alone in being in the spot, the main event
00:03:45of Raw against Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship.
00:03:49Yes, Penta's stock is elevated, but the performance we saw tonight on a totally different level.
00:03:56And I think, you know, and I've said this for a long time.
00:03:59I think that while you will have certain cities react to superstars in certain ways, this is
00:04:06a global platform.
00:04:07And just because something happens in a city, once you see it, once you hear the reaction,
00:04:12it becomes contagious wherever you are.
00:04:15When the clip of Stephanie Vaquer winning the Women's World Championship from Liv Morgan
00:04:22in Santiago, Chile went out there, everybody heard how they reacted to Stephanie Vaquer in
00:04:29her hometown.
00:04:30And it drove the enthusiasm for Stephanie.
00:04:34Going back, you know, just say 11, 12 years at this point when Roman Reigns won the Royal
00:04:41Rumble in Philadelphia, booed him out of the building, that had an effect on every other
00:04:46building that Roman Reigns went to because wrestling fans, to a degree, and I say this
00:04:50as one, we're Pavlovian.
00:04:52We answer to cues.
00:04:54We understand the assignment.
00:04:56And tonight, first of all, Roman Reigns walked in to an enemy crowd for maybe the first time
00:05:05since WrestleMania 40.
00:05:07I think so.
00:05:08I think that's right.
00:05:08He walked in, not the guy that the crowd wanted to cheer, but I think, and I know I
00:05:15felt it myself, and I believe that everybody around the world watching Monday Night Raw on
00:05:21Netflix tonight, they heard that reaction that Penta got.
00:05:26And I think that that's going to be contagious.
00:05:28I think that, yes, it elevates Penta to see him in this performance with Roman Reigns.
00:05:33And, yes, it elevates Penta to see the fact that he took Roman Reigns all the way to the
00:05:39limit.
00:05:39And we got that moment that you want to have in championship matches where, for a second,
00:05:44you thought maybe, just maybe.
00:05:45For a second, you thought Roman's not going to kick out of this.
00:05:48But I think, going back to the entrance that you brought up, the minute you hear, this is
00:05:54the man that people bought tickets to see.
00:05:57This is the superstar that is the nucleus of this entire show, and that was Penta tonight.
00:06:04And I think that that is the emotion that he drew out of this crowd in Mexico City is
00:06:11going to be contagious to cities all across the world.
00:06:14I think Penta, moving forward, is a completely different superstar after this match with Roman
00:06:20Reigns.
00:06:21And not because he wasn't capable of doing the things he did in the ring before, but
00:06:25because of the response he got from others, and because of the place he took Roman Reigns
00:06:31tonight.
00:06:31I mean, and I pointed this out when we were watching it together.
00:06:34We see Penta, and we're looking at the photo now of Penta walking out with that incredible
00:06:40headdress on.
00:06:41Cool.
00:06:41A nod to the culture that surrounds Lucha, and especially performing in front of an audience
00:06:47for an episode of Monday Night Raw for the first time in 15 years in Mexico City.
00:06:52But the fact that, like, that Penta was still able to look cool in that headdress, the fact
00:07:01that, like, Penta still had a bit of a swag or a bit of a strut wearing that giant headdress,
00:07:07like, a lot of people, and this is just the facts, like, even if you're a superstar, when
00:07:14you're wearing something that big and something that elaborate and such a showpiece, there
00:07:18are times in the history of this industry where the entrance attire has worn the superstar,
00:07:26if you know what I mean.
00:07:27Like, it looks like they're almost overcome by this loud, huge presentation.
00:07:32Wasn't the case with Penta.
00:07:34Not at all.
00:07:34He owned the moment himself.
00:07:35Not at all.
00:07:36And I kept thinking back as I'm watching the entrance and as he's making this headdress,
00:07:40you know, still look cool with his strut.
00:07:43It looked cool with or without the strut.
00:07:45But then Penta added his own Penta flair to it as well.
00:07:48But I was thinking back to the Penta that WWE was introduced to on Netflix.
00:07:55And we knew there was something so special in that moment.
00:07:58And it's grown and grown and grown and grown.
00:08:00But to get to this place tonight in the main event of Raw, when he walks out, it was on
00:08:07a different level.
00:08:08And you hear the crowd reacting accordingly to it as well.
00:08:12I mean, you know that he pulled it off when I'm sitting there looking at it going, I wonder
00:08:17if I could pull off a headdress like that.
00:08:19No, you can't.
00:08:20I don't know.
00:08:20I don't know.
00:08:21I'd love to.
00:08:21Nope.
00:08:22I'd love to find out the haberdashery that Penta visits to get a piece like that.
00:08:28You don't think?
00:08:29No, I don't think you should try that.
00:08:30No.
00:08:31I think there are certain things you should sit out from.
00:08:33And this is cool.
00:08:34And I like looking cool.
00:08:36So, okay.
00:08:36Well, okay.
00:08:36Well, then I won't try it then.
00:08:38But all right, fine.
00:08:38I think you have a better chance getting an Ulafala.
00:08:41Well, that you have to earn.
00:08:42And Roman Reigns earned every bit of it.
00:08:44Roman Reigns is the tribal chief.
00:08:48And he walked in.
00:08:49And this is a tribal chief that is experienced.
00:08:52This is a tribal chief that has seen it all.
00:08:55This is now a tribal chief that has been in front of every crowd you could be in front of.
00:08:59You're not going to throw this guy off his game.
00:09:01And this guy is going to adapt.
00:09:03One of my favorite things to see is a superstar, not 100% known.
00:09:08Like, we knew the crowd was going to favor Penta.
00:09:12There was speculation as to where the crowd was going to go in terms of Roman Reigns.
00:09:16I think I said on the radio today, I didn't think he was going to get booed.
00:09:18I didn't either.
00:09:19I thought they were still going to acknowledge him.
00:09:21Yeah, because it's an exciting thing.
00:09:22He's a big star.
00:09:23It is a big deal to see Roman Reigns.
00:09:25Especially to see Roman Reigns wrestle on Monday Night Raw.
00:09:28It's a huge deal.
00:09:30But they booed him.
00:09:30They did.
00:09:31They booed him.
00:09:32And Roman said, okay, whatever you've got for me.
00:09:34And you could feel his presence was adapted.
00:09:37His style was adapted.
00:09:38The way he wrestled was adapted.
00:09:41The way he interacted with the audience was adapted.
00:09:43He's ready for any mission.
00:09:45This is not a Roman Reigns that's going to be thrown off his game because things didn't go exactly according
00:09:50to plan.
00:09:51There's a plan A, B, C, all the way down to.
00:09:54There's levels to this.
00:09:55Yeah.
00:09:56Yeah.
00:09:57Levels are in place.
00:09:58It goes all the way down.
00:10:01So, we watched this match begin.
00:10:03And it really was such a fun thing to just sit back and observe.
00:10:09Penta starting off strong.
00:10:12And I mean, I mean.
00:10:13Trying to dictate the pace, really, which is kind of what we talked about, right?
00:10:17Yeah, quick.
00:10:17Yes.
00:10:18But I mean, like, this is one count Roman Reigns.
00:10:21You know, Roman Reigns, there are stages in this match where it's like it goes, it's one count Roman, then
00:10:26two count Roman, then near fall Roman.
00:10:28And depending on how deep in the match you go and how much of the match you get all to
00:10:33your own, that's the Roman that you end up getting.
00:10:37So, like, Roman did, of course, end up starting to take over.
00:10:41But fairly early on, within the first, you know, I don't know, 30% of the match, Penta hit that
00:10:48sacrifice.
00:10:49And it switched things up for a while.
00:10:52Yes.
00:10:52And you could see the look on Roman Reigns' face when Penta hit that sacrifice.
00:10:57Just, I mean, the face that Roman Reigns made as Penta hits the sacrifice, my arm hurt watching this.
00:11:05I mean, Roman was, he was watching the Penta footage before this match.
00:11:11And you do, you look at that and it's like, Roman looks like he's in terror.
00:11:15And you don't know if he's in terror because of what he's feeling right now or because he knows where
00:11:22this is going.
00:11:23Roman will wear those emotions on his face.
00:11:25I love that that, I mean, it's one of the many things that Roman will take you on a story
00:11:31just using his facial expressions.
00:11:33If you don't believe that getting put in that position where Penta is looking around to the crowd and everybody
00:11:41knows he's about to hit that sacrifice,
00:11:43if you don't think that's a dangerous spot to be in, look at Roman's face.
00:11:47And the face was so effective in the way that Roman reacted to the sacrifice that every time Roman went
00:11:55to go for a Superman punch,
00:11:58you and I, as we're watching it, we go, oh, the arm.
00:12:01Oh, the arm.
00:12:02Yeah.
00:12:03I just, I just love the idea that we just went over the, like the fact that like Roman has
00:12:08now been in every position conceivable.
00:12:10So he's prepared for whatever, but he's not prepared for something like that for that moment.
00:12:15So the next time that Penta hits a sacrifice on somebody, the next time that somebody sets up for it,
00:12:22that's another thing that's instilled in our brains.
00:12:24We understand.
00:12:25Remember what this did to Roman Reigns.
00:12:27Exactly.
00:12:27And how Roman Reigns, even before it was hit, how dangerous Roman was aware that it was.
00:12:34So, I mean, now, now we get to the point where, yeah, Roman is, is favoring the arm.
00:12:40Roman is starting to get like, okay, I wasn't supposed to, that wasn't supposed to happen.
00:12:46And like, it's the, it's the point in the match where Roman is going, he shouldn't be doing this well.
00:12:50I don't like this.
00:12:52I know I told you, I walked in saying I respected him.
00:12:54I don't like how well he's doing.
00:12:56And we see, we see, and now we see a lot of back and forth, right?
00:13:00We see that table, the commentary table gets smashed.
00:13:04And you go, okay, now it's back on Roman's side.
00:13:06But right after that, when they both get back in the ring, Penta, he's starting now,
00:13:11now we start to see those moments that you and I were talking about last week.
00:13:15Those moments where it's like win or lose.
00:13:17This is stuff that we never thought we'd see.
00:13:20Seeing Roman get hit with a Penta driver, you just don't see, like watching Roman's body
00:13:28flip upside down and land.
00:13:29Like you don't see Roman doing stuff like that.
00:13:32Never, you don't.
00:13:34And it's like, you're going, that's what makes this different.
00:13:37That's what makes this special.
00:13:39And the fact that Penta hits it after Roman puts him through the table too.
00:13:42Right, right.
00:13:43It was that point in the match where I thought, oh no, Roman's taking over.
00:13:48I don't know if we're going to see any of that from Penta, right?
00:13:51I don't know if we're going to get the Mexican destroyer.
00:13:53I don't know if we're going to get a Penta driver.
00:13:55And then Penta hits one after going through the table.
00:13:57Yeah.
00:13:58And then you go, okay, okay, what are we doing here?
00:14:00Game on, let's go.
00:14:01Now we're locked in.
00:14:02Yes.
00:14:02And then we do, I mean, that one sort of like, Penta hits a Mexican destroyer,
00:14:12which is something we were waiting for.
00:14:14And I think that he was going for a Mexican destroyer when Roman was on the apron.
00:14:18But that's when Roman was able to kind of back body drop him off onto the floor to avoid it.
00:14:23Yes.
00:14:23But then when they're in the ring, he hits it.
00:14:26He hits that Mexican destroyer.
00:14:28Roman lands, but kind of rolls into the turnbuckle and then just uses adrenaline to go, boom, spear.
00:14:36One, two, but then there's a kick out.
00:14:38And now both, Ben, it's one of those classic reset moments where it's like, okay, now we've seen it.
00:14:43We've seen the Penta driver.
00:14:45We've seen Roman spear.
00:14:47We've seen the Mexican destroyer.
00:14:49But I wanted another one.
00:14:50Of course you want another one.
00:14:51I'll take all of the above once more, please do it again.
00:14:55But that's to say that like, you're no longer in that moment, just waiting for spectacular moments.
00:15:02Now it's like, okay, we've almost gotten that out of the way.
00:15:05Both men are on the ground.
00:15:07It's time for a reset.
00:15:09And now we're headed home.
00:15:11Now it's the last lap.
00:15:13It's the sprint.
00:15:15Now we're ready to sprint.
00:15:17Now it's time to go like, okay, we're both laid out.
00:15:21This is officially anyone's match.
00:15:24We know who each other are.
00:15:26The feeling out process has been completed.
00:15:29And now we go, okay, who's going to be the one that hits the move?
00:15:34That's what we're waiting for now.
00:15:35The move that ends this thing.
00:15:39And Roman is getting either frustrated or wants to get a psychological advantage because he asks for a mic.
00:15:46I know, and this to me, while all of Mexico City is booing Roman Reigns, and as you said, different
00:15:53reactions from different crowds.
00:15:55But when Roman asked for the mic, I said, that's poor to me.
00:15:59What?
00:15:59That's poor to me.
00:16:01Here he is in the middle of a match with Penta, who's hit a Penta driver.
00:16:07He's hit the sacrifice on him.
00:16:10He's hit a Mexican destroyer.
00:16:13Two of them.
00:16:14Not yet.
00:16:14Not before the mic.
00:16:15Well.
00:16:16I don't think.
00:16:17I don't know if it was before or after the mic.
00:16:19But regardless, he had taken a Mexican destroyer from Penta, and he asked for a mic mid-match to ask
00:16:28the crowd to acknowledge him?
00:16:30To demand that the crowd acknowledged him.
00:16:32I was, that was poor to me.
00:16:34You died de Mexico!

00:17:07in this studio with us, pointing at the WWE championship on the wall and saying, that's
00:17:12why I'm here.
00:17:13I'm here to win all the titles.
00:17:14And when he did, we said, I don't know, you know, let's see if you can get the IC title.
00:17:20I don't know if you're going to get the world championship.
00:17:22And here he is, potentially one move away from the world championship.
00:17:26I'm with it.
00:17:27I'm with it.
00:17:27But I'm ready.
00:17:29When Roman has the mic, though, to me, that's the moment where I said, okay, Penta, kick
00:17:33his butt.
00:17:34Come on.
00:17:35And that's when Roman's saying, yeah, kick my butt, because you forgot I'm the tribal
00:17:39chief.
00:17:41Look, sometimes a leader's benevolency can be mistaken for weakness.
00:17:48And that's what Roman won't have.
00:17:51Roman has been a benevolent leader.
00:17:54Roman has been putting food on people's tables.
00:17:56But the minute, the minute that you mistake kindness for weakness, the last thing that you
00:18:04want our tribal chief to do is to have to remind you, don't make me remind you who I am.
00:18:11And that's what he did.

00:20:25And I think, you know what that does when he reminds them and they boo him?
00:20:28It gives him that thing, that thing, that thing that lives inside him that led to a

00:59:46everything that we could wonder about where Javon is going could be answered in

00:59:53What happens when there's a seven foot monster that's out to utterly decimate
