00:00Hi, pleasure to meet you. I'm Matthew from Bang Showbiz.
00:03Nice.
00:04So it's great to be here, really great to see this film.
00:07First question I have for you. So you've spoken in the past about disability representation in films.
00:13And I'd love to know what you think how that shift has been since you were a child.
00:17Do you think it's been a positive shift or do you think there's still a lot more that we need
00:20to do?
00:20I think both. I think it's certainly kind of getting better.
00:23And I think the more disabled actors and writers and people in general you have in the industry, the better
00:31it's going to get.
00:33But certainly since I was a kid, it's come on leaps and bounds.
00:36Still a long way to go. But the more kind of Ellie Jims we have in the world,
00:42the more Ruth Maysley, who's just nailed it to the wall in being human,
00:45the more people like her we have in the industry, not only who are advocating,
00:50but who are also just damn good actors in their own life, the better it'll be.
00:56So still a fair way to go, but we're moving forward. One day at a time, one step at a
01:01time.
01:02Excellent. And obviously throughout this film you're mentoring Ellie and you're kind of, you know, teaching her.
01:07Are there any lessons specifically that you taught her or any advice that you would give your younger self?
01:12I'd love to know.
01:13Oh, as most of my younger self is always like a hard one to answer.
01:18Partly because my mind goes down this awful kind of back to the future kind of,
01:23but that'll change everything kind of thing.
01:25I would probably tell my younger self that it's, it ends up okay.
01:30Like this gets easier, this gets better.
01:33And advice to Ellie, it's kind of be, however, if you met one of your favourite actors,
01:39how would you want them to be in real life? Be like that. Be that. Be the actor you would
01:44want to be.
01:46Like, not on a film set. And you know, be keen, say yes to opportunities, get there early, stay there
01:53late, and be nice to everyone.
01:54Because you don't know who's going to be on the way up or on the way down.
01:58And above all else, learn your lines. Learn your goddamn lines.
02:02That's really great advice. Just a couple more questions for you.
02:06So, first of all, you really, you stunned everyone when you starred in A Different Man with Sebastian Stan.
02:11I was just wondering, are there any high profile actors you see today in films who you would love to
02:15work with next?
02:16Oh, crikey, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I, uh, she's just done a really good performance in, um, the debut.
02:24I would love to work with Julianne Moore. And she's phenomenally talented.
02:30I would love to do, like, a, I'd love to work with Adam Sandler. I grew up on Adam Sandler
02:36films.
02:37So I've got that really similar, like, juvenile sense of humour.
02:41Yeah.
02:41And some of the weird ones, because he'll do, like, Grown Up, Grown Up 2, all those, like, Netflix-y
02:46films.
02:46Yeah.
02:47And then every now and again, he'll do something like Uncut Gems.
02:51I know. Yeah.
02:51And remind the world that he's a really good actor.
02:54Yeah. He's amazing, isn't he? Yeah.
02:56And I suppose my final question, which kind of leans into this, is, uh, do you have any upcoming projects
03:00at the moment after this film?
03:01Is there anything we should be looking out for? Or, uh, yeah, just give us some insight on that.
03:05Nothing I can legally talk about. Oh.
03:07But you will be seeing me again, like, certain, today, I'm sure.
03:11Okay. Well, we look forward to seeing you again.
03:13Thank you so much again for speaking with me.
03:14No problem at all. Enjoy the festival.
03:16Thank you so much.
03:17Thank you so much.
03:17Thank you so much.
