00:00Drake May looks like a completely different individual.
00:03Were we getting played the first couple games of the season?
00:06I'm so confused.
00:08I mean, 374 yards, four touchdowns in the air,
00:13no interceptions at all yesterday.
00:16I mean, the guy looks completely different, Wiggy.
00:19He looks like he's obviously comfortable and his decision-making is great
00:23and just like the accuracy on his balls is spectacular.
00:28Don't click him.
00:30Would you – could one say that he is progressing?
00:33Yes.
00:34Yes, he's progressing now.
00:36He was regressing two weeks ago.
00:39How's the shoulder?
00:41Shoulder's fine.
00:42I thought it was injured.
00:44No, the shoulder seems to be fine.
00:46That was a near-perfect game.
00:48What did he do wrong?
00:50And watching a game like that, you were like, oh, wait.
00:53What we saw last season wasn't a fluke.
00:56He's still in there.
00:57So, I don't know what was going on those first two weeks.
01:00I'm sorry for calling it a fall from grace.
01:02It was in that moment.
01:03It was.
01:03But back-to-back games, he built his skill set on that Jacksonville game.
01:11He doubled it.
01:12Yeah, he's playing the way we expected him to play.
01:15I mean, this is –
01:17Yesterday was better than I expected.
01:19Maybe it's better than you expected, but what I've seen out of Drake May these last two weeks, him as
01:25a quarterback, like, this was my expectation of him week in and week out.
01:30Now, granted, he's going to have a bad game here and there, but this is what I expect from him
01:35pretty much every week moving forward.
01:39And, like, if you have a stinker here, that's part of the thing.
01:42It's going to happen.
01:43But then I expect you to get right back on that horse and be what we've seen over these past
01:48two weeks.
01:49You know, it was a – you know, Vegas is a good defense, and you went out there, and I
01:54thought you shredded them up.
01:56Your offensive line did a good job of keeping you upright.
01:58I know there's some injuries on the offensive line now that you're going to have to deal with, but you
02:03start to look at what your schedule looks like moving forward.
02:07You've got the Jets.
02:08You've got a team in Chicago that, you know, they're still a good team, but they've got the brakes beat
02:13off them against Green Bay.
02:14I listened to Shyam.
02:15I took the Bears yesterday.
02:17Oh, man.
02:18That was a mistake.
02:18Yeah, we didn't see that one coming.
02:20My thing is, the people that love analytics, like, how do you not watch Drake May over the first –
02:26what is it?
02:26So their first five weeks.
02:28Five games, yeah.
02:28And say, you need to understand the whole body.
02:32Like, there was something going on mentally.
02:35I don't know what it was.
02:36I couldn't tell you.
02:38Maybe it was the pressure of an offseason after the Super Bowl loss, and there's all this – you know,
02:42he's runner-up for the MVP, and he's putting too much on his plate.
02:44Maybe he's not putting enough on his plate.
02:46I don't know what the answer is.
02:49But what you saw yesterday was a confident, poised quarterback that just physically was able to do his job.
02:58And that was not going on.
02:59I think Josh McDaniels yesterday coached the pants off of Kubiak.
03:04I mean, the play calls, the way in which that they were able to design those plays, scheme up without
03:10Matt Collins, you're down to your fifth receiver.
03:13Romeo Dobbs still kind of sucks.
03:15No, Romeo Dobbs, listen, he makes me nervous at times because even like that ball that was thrown to him
03:24in the end zone, had his hands on it, doesn't come down with it.
03:28And I get that he's not going to be A.J. Brown, but I still have questions about him.
03:35But Drake able to work Kyle Williams into the program yesterday, and I just – it's an amazing turnaround, and
03:45it really is exciting to see because – listen, Boomer Esiason will be on with us at eight.
03:53Boomer wanted him set a couple weeks ago, so I –
03:56I think a lot of people were questioning, you know, probably not to sit him, but they were all questioning
04:01like, okay, is he really this guy?
04:03And, you know, we talked about week in and week out.
04:07Excuse me.
04:08You're really coughing it up this morning.
04:11Yesterday's price is not today's price.
04:12And when you look at where he is, and now if you're Robert Kraft, you're like, ooh, man.
04:18It's costing more money?
04:19You should have got that deal done after the Jaguars game.
04:22It looks like it's going to cost us over $60 million to keep this guy around.
04:26But I also think, because we talked play calling in the beginning of the season and the way in which
04:29Josh McDaniels was conservative,
04:31I think that the confidence in Drake May from Josh has been a reflection in the last two games as
04:36well.
04:37Like, I think that he has put a lot of confidence back into Drake's hands.
04:41And so, whether it's Vrabel, whether it's Josh, something was going on in those first two weeks behind the scenes.
04:49There has to have been.
04:50Yeah, and I'd be careful with the conservative because they'll tell you whether it's Vrabel or them.
04:55They'll tell you, like, our play calling hasn't changed.
04:57But I have eyes.
04:58Yeah.
04:58I mean, I'd have to deep dive, you know, do a deep dive into the weeds and see the actual
05:03play calling.
05:04But, you know, that's what they'll tell you.
05:06And I think it's just his decision making.
05:08He looks comfortable back there.
05:10He looks like he's having fun.
05:12You know, those first couple of games, he looked like he wasn't having fun.
05:18You know, I've never been in a situation where I've come off of a season and I've been, you know,
05:24runner-up for MVP and then the weight of the world has fallen on your shoulders.
05:29And maybe it just took him some time to kind of, you know, weed through that.
05:33And that's kind of what he had to do those first couple of weeks.
05:36But he, like I said, this is what I expected coming into this season.
05:39Well, and I think Mike Vrabel will join us in about 15, 20 minutes or so at 630.
05:45And he acknowledged it a little bit last week when it comes to coaching in a more aggressive way.
05:53And I think you saw that again yesterday at times.
05:57He went for it twice on fourth down, same drive, but both fourth and three, I believe.
06:06And so I do think that he's kind of approaching it maybe a little bit differently than he did the
06:12first couple of weeks.
06:13And those fourth down plays are not really close.
06:16Like Drake does a three-step drop and then there's a guy open at the six.
06:20It's like –
06:20It's an option route.
06:21That's all he ran, Pop Douglas.
06:23It's an option route.
06:23Before you can even be sort of like stressed, like, oh, is this the right thing to do?
06:27The ball snapped and it's already a first down.
06:29Like I feel like – and that really against the Bills is what turned it around, I think,
06:34is that early in that game, the Patriots had the ball.
06:37They had that Marcus Jones.
06:39The ball was fumbled, but it was after the Bills touched it,
06:41and they had that 97-yard touchdown drive.
06:43And on that drive, there was, I think, two or three times where they went for it on fourth down
06:48in field goal range.
06:49And that was the catalyst, I think, where the organization was like, listen,
06:53we can't give you confidence, but we can call plays that enable you to regain it.
06:57And I think that that's what they did.
06:59No, I mean, I think the concern remains what Mike Vrabel talked about prior to the season starting,
07:06which is depth, and you're dealing with significant injuries.
07:11And Will Campbell, they are saying this morning or somebody is reporting this morning
07:16that it's a sprain, which is good news, I guess, when it comes to Will Campbell.
07:22Well, that's what he had last year.
07:24Well, yeah, but I don't think they're being specific.
07:26Wasn't it, was it the MCL that he did last year?
07:29Yeah, I mean, but a sprain knee, I mean, I don't know, MCL, ACL.
07:33I'm not a doctor.
07:34Sam Kennedy is.
07:35But, yeah, I mean, that's going to be their thing is depth.
07:41But yesterday, they got guys who stepped up when they're dealing with injuries.
07:46So it seems very, things seem very rosy here at Gillette Stadium.
07:52I can't tell you how happy I believe most Patriots fans are with the turnaround.
07:58So we'll talk to you about that this morning on a Patriots Monday.
08:03It's a holiday for many.
08:05So hopefully if you're home, you got the whole morning off.
08:08You can listen to the whole entire show.
08:09So I mentioned that we'll get some leads in coming up in just a couple minutes before Mike Vrabel gets
08:15here.
08:15Mike Vrabel at 6.30.
08:17And then they said it coming up at 7.15.
08:20And that includes what Drake May said about having enough time to crush a sandwich behind his O-line yesterday.
08:29Because he had plenty of time all day yesterday, Wiggy.
08:32Yeah, that he did.
08:32And what Nick Sirianni said about making dumb coaching decisions.
08:36We'll get to that.
08:38That was stupid.
08:38We'll get to that.
08:40And maybe even possibly a very giddy Bill Belichick after a win for Curtis.
08:46We'll get to that audio perhaps.
08:47I got to tell you, nobody beats backup quarterbacks like Bill Belichick.
08:51Well, I mean, that's wins or wins.
08:53First win over a ranked team for Bill Belichick.
08:56I don't think they'd be ranked if he was the quarterback the whole year.
08:59If you watch the game.
09:00The backup quarterback literally was the worst player in the country.
09:03No, no, he was pretty good.
09:04That backup quarterback.
09:05Did you watch the game?
09:06Yeah, I did watch the game.
09:07He was thrown into the other team.
09:08Go look at it.
09:09I watched the whole game.
09:10Yeah, he wasn't bad.
09:11I mean, for a backup, he wasn't bad.
09:13He had some plays.
09:13I thought the Pittsburgh receiver was going to kill him.
09:17Like, literally, he was going back to the huddle, like, ready to punch him in the face three different times.
09:22Hey, give it to Bill.
09:23I mean, you know, a win is a win.
09:25Wow.
09:25Three and two.
09:25Look out.
09:27And also.
09:28Chasing the ACC title.
09:29Listen.
09:30No offense, but you're Bulldogs.
09:34How about them dogs?
09:35They were given a game, Wiggy.
09:38Wait.
09:39Alabama wasn't given an interception that wasn't an interception?
09:42Let me just say this.
09:44What's that?
09:44If you are not allowed to knock a wide receiver over and then get on top of him with your
09:51hands
09:51over his eyes in advance of the ball coming.
09:54So, I just want you to.
09:55No, that was pass interference.
09:57Yes.
09:58I mean, the entire world knows it was pass interference.
10:01We all thought that was pass interference.
10:02Oh, my God.
10:02All right.
10:03All right.
10:03All right.
