00:00Je vais me garder mon jeu.
00:00Je suis le deuxième partenaire que j'ai eu l'ai fait.
00:04Oh, wow.
00:05Oui, j'ai l'air long terme.
00:06Je joue un peu.
00:07So, je dois.
00:08Ça marche.
00:09Il fonctionne chaque fois.
01:25Juste l'année dernière, Wrestle Kingdom XVII walked in,
01:28challenging Karl Anderson pour l'Ever Openweight Championship,
01:32walked away victorious.
01:33Rocky, nous pourrions voir la même chose par la fin de la nuit.
01:37C'est très possible, Tamatanga a tous les moyens.
01:44And he's familiar with this spot.
01:49He's familiar with winning gold in this very arena.
01:54It was that matchup on October 28th at Fighting Spirit Unleashed just last year,
02:00where Tamatanga would fall victim to Shingo Takagi.
02:02Shingo Takagi has defended that championship just a few times now since then.
02:31Well, Tamatanga might well have won gold in this building, boys.
02:38He used to be the Tamakurs in the Tokyo Dome.
02:43And now such is not the case.
02:46But 2024 is the year of the Dragon, Tatsutoshi.
02:52And here is the Dragon himself, Shingo Takagi,
02:56wearing the Never Openweight Championship inside the Big A.
03:02.
03:09We want to talk about the BMF Championship.
03:12There is an aura, there is an energy that surrounds this man
03:15as one of the world's top fighters in our sport today.
03:19And there's a reason that Tamatanga felt the need to challenge Shingo Takagi when he did,
03:25when he was holding the Never Openweight Championship.
03:27Obviously, he failed in that challenge at Fighting Spirit Unleashed.
03:31However, for tonight, for Tamatanga, it is about redemption.
03:35For Shingo Takagi, it is about solidifying your place in the Never Openweight division.
03:41He's still champion by the end of this one.
03:44Walks in tonight, 68 days into his reign.
03:48His third reign, 362 days total.
03:51We're going to see if that extends even further going forward after tonight.
04:00Yeah, props to Chris Samsa.
04:03Never Openweight Championship has been decided in 85 matches,
04:07has changed hands in 45.88% of those matches.
04:13The highest title change rate of any singles championship here in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
04:19And it's not been a good night thus far, Walker, for the incumbents here in the Tokyo Dome.
04:24You're right about that. You want to talk about that percentage, right?
04:27Tamatanga has been involved on the other half of that one.
04:30So, we're going to have to see as we get into this.
04:44Now, January 4th in Wrestle Kingdom is an opportunity for us to revisit what happened in the year 2023.
04:49And if we're talking 2023 win-loss records here in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
04:5458 wins, 51 losses, one draw, over 110 matches for one Shingo Takagi.
05:01Tamatanga, 35 wins, 23 matches, one draw, 57 matches.
05:06Rocky, it's Shingo that has more experience over the past year in in-ring competition.
05:12Do you think that benefits him?
05:13Or is the body being damaged by that amount of competition he's taking place in?
05:18You know, it's hard to say.
05:19It really is hard to say.
05:21And Shingo Takagi is such a fantastic wrestler.
05:25And no matter how many times you knock him down, he just keeps coming at you.
05:29And Tamatanga is going to explode here.
05:31Here we go!
05:32One, two, one, two, one, two, one, two, one, two, one, two, one!
05:42Oh!
05:43It is that BMF standing that these men are fighting for here tonight.
05:47Tamatanga is going to be facing off against Shingo Takagi and what's up to be a hard-hitting affair.
05:53We made that reference of their records, Walker, in 2023, both of them having that one draw against one another.
06:03And that's why Shingo Takagi accepted the challenge of Tamatanga that, yes, we settled the score in Vegas,
06:09but when it comes to a Japanese record, we haven't finished this at all.
06:14We want to get past this one draw and see who's the better man.
06:17Yeah, they have him back to G1 Climax 33, and of course, it is one that is heavily on the
06:22minds.
06:23And I know it's one that has been studied by both men, men of tape, if you will,
06:27for Shingo Takagi and Tamatanga.
06:30Just study that match back, see what they did wrong.
06:33Why couldn't they put the other one away in the time?
06:36Oh, man, Tamatanga back up.
06:38Here we go!
06:40Man, right on the back of the neck.
06:44Seven of nine matches, title defenses in this building has seen the never over a championship change hands.
06:52Shingo Takagi, one of only two men to successfully defend in this building.
06:57Bad against Jeff Kopp three years ago.
06:59Here, a cover and a kick out.
07:03You know, Chris, when you and I were at the Cork and Hall events back in late December,
07:07we talked about Shingo Takagi being at both of those events in Tamatanga,
07:10taking the route of staying at home and focusing on his health and wellness, his training.
07:16We're gonna see who manages to come out in the end here and which strategy ended up being the smarter
07:21one.
07:21But I gotta tell you, Tamatanga is looking to be in incredible shape.
07:26Shingo Takagi has had a very hard working 2023 and will into 2024.
07:35This is his 20th career anniversary year.
07:39And you wanna be damn sure that he's gonna make the most of it.
07:44It might be time already.
07:45About six o'clock.
07:48Maybe, is it?
07:52Not just yet.
07:55You know that time is coming, Chris.
07:56Shingo Takagi out of the corner, knocks down shoulder tackle.
08:00Look at this, lift up, plants, Tamatanga down, up, and senton avoided by Tamatanga.
08:06These guys are hitting each other so hard.
08:09All right, had this match circled from day one, look out.
08:15Tamatanga got all tangled up in that top rope.
08:18Shingo.
08:20And Shingo, watch out, taking to the skies.
08:26Tope Kanhilo to the outside.
08:29Takagi Kanhilo.
08:31Not something you see a lot from Shingo.
08:34Look at this.
08:35Let's take a look at it one more time.
08:36Look at the rotation and the impact that is felt at the hands of Shingo Takagi.
08:42No doubt about it, men of tape, Walker, but also men, especially Shingo as well, very online.
08:48And I think somebody that saw the reception to this matchup being made, a recent rematch.
08:54And I think that both Shingo and Tamatanga have seen some of that reception and
08:58are working even harder to steal the show in this matchup as well as steal the championship.
09:05No, it's never a bad idea to try and impress the New Japan Pro Wrestling faithful.
09:10The reality is there's the Never Openweight Championship on the line and
09:13that's the main prize.
09:14That is the main focus for both of these men walking into the Tokyo Dome tonight.
09:19Look at this lift up, drop down, high angle, high impact cover here for
09:24Takagi and Tamatanga up the count of two.
09:26Well, I think to that point, wait, wait a second.
09:30Is it time, gentlemen?
09:31It might be.
09:33We're gonna get in on frame.
09:35My time coming.
09:37Yep.
09:38There you go.
09:39His time is coming.
09:41T-Time.
09:43But Tamatanga may be looking to take it to his end.
09:47I think to your point, Walker, Tama maybe made the mistake of thinking too much about the New Japan.
09:54Fans and what they wanted to see when he called Shingo out for Las Vegas.
09:59But it's very rare, Tama never makes the same mistake twice.
10:02We saw it with David Finley.
10:04Will we see it with Shingo Takagi?
10:05Precarious position here.
10:07Bad spot to be in if you're anyone but Tama Taga taking things to that middle rope.
10:12And off the middle.
10:13Oh, cut down with a neck breaker.
10:18That's gonna stun Shingo Takagi for the moment.
10:21It was Tama Taga yesterday at the press conference that we held here for
10:25Wrestle Kingdom week.
10:26Where Tama Taga referred to himself as the underdog going into this matchup, Chris.
10:32And I gotta say, we're not exactly seeing that underdog status right now.
10:36We're seeing a very competitive edge between both men.
10:40And it's coming to a head here.
10:43Certainly I think Tama knows what the general voices, the general consensus is.
10:50But Tama is always one that wants to defy convention.
10:56SRC, SRC, watch it set up for Supreme Flow, Walker.
11:07You'll be thinking Supreme Flow not gonna happen though.
11:10Shingo Takagi is capable of grounding Tama Taga at any position.
11:14This is looking to be one of them.
11:19That would have been a knockout shot to any lesser man, Chris.
11:25Concussive back fist as well for Shingo.
11:30Rocky.
11:31Bad position to be in at Kyrtama Taga.
11:40Superplex.
11:42Crashes down a rumble in the Tokyo Dome for this never open weight championship match.
11:48He put some extra stank on that one too.
11:50Yeah, he did.
11:50And a shockwave of the impact corresponding with the gasps of this crowd here.
11:56Off the ropes here, sliding.
11:58Lariat, that's gonna do it.
12:00That's only if he can make his way to the cover.
12:03Takagi's not thinking cover, he's thinking more offense.
12:06You see the gears turning.
12:18The energy in the buildings on the side of Shingo Takagi.
12:22The potential retaining of the never open weight championship could be in his future.
12:28Made in Japan maybe.
12:31Seeking it out, nope, not gonna happen.
12:37Popped up, fireman's carry, no, no, no.
12:41Tonga and Swiss.
12:45And now he didn't get it the first time.
12:47Could be thinking Supreme Flow right here.
12:50Tama Tonga, it's a long way down.
12:53No!
12:54Free flow!
12:56Cover!
12:57No!
12:58So close!
12:59Nearly had a new never open weight champion.
13:04Shingo Takagi motivated and thinking as we all are about the tragic events that started this year up north in
13:12Japan.
13:12Said that he wants to bring the strength of pro wrestling to the people.
13:17And that is something that's keeping him going here against tough competition.
13:22But one gun stun walker and it's gonna be over.
13:29There's a moment that Tama Tonga has been dreaming of ever since he was looking up at the lights.
13:34And the three was counted back at fighting spirit unleashed.
13:37He wants this gun stun.
13:39He wants the never open weight championship.
13:42Go, no.
13:45Gogeta Boyd in.
13:46Oh!
13:48What a counter.
13:50He was looking for Nashegami Tama Tonga blocks it.
13:53Look out!
13:54Oh!
13:55Oh!
13:56Hold it in.
13:57Oh, wow.
14:00Nearly, nearly, at him.
14:04This is every bit of the BMF and counter that we wanted to see, Rock.
14:13Ils sont en train de faire de l'histoire.
14:21Ils sont en train de faire de l'histoire.
14:22Shingo Takagi,
14:24a never say die attitude rolls on,
14:27here tonight in the Tokyo Dome.
14:29This direction, here it is, what a big bummer.
14:4130,000 roaring along with the dragon.
14:49Here it is.
14:52Guns done, Guns done.
14:56Guns done for Dama Tonga, but he cannot make it into the cover.
15:04The energy is no there.
15:06That was a last ditch effort.
15:12Sama always has one more in the chamber.
15:17The maiden Japan countered into the gun stun.
15:26Takagi's barely moved here.
15:27You see him clutching at the neck, which is gonna serve as a target if Tama Tonga needs.
15:32To go further in this matchup.
15:38It's been a bad night for champions.
15:42I think Tama.
15:45A lot of history with Prince Devitt trying to sink up bloody Sunday.
16:01Look at the leg.
16:03Whoa.
16:03Kick out on one.
16:04Doggy up at one.
16:06This is the Tokyo Dome boys, this is never a boy championship.
16:14Smashing lariat from Tama Tonga.
16:19Tama Tonga cannot take too much more time.
16:22He has to push Shingo Takagi down and keep him there for three.
16:30Double underhook here, Chris.
16:32What's that DSD?
16:34It's the move that won in the championship.
16:37The beat Casachinko-Carter.
16:40Jack Knight, cover here, cover Jack Knight.
16:43No, no, no, no.
16:44We've seen the World TV title change hands in similar fashion already.
16:52The flash pin is not the never way.
16:56This is, my goodness.
17:01Hurricane Rana and the forearm shot to boot.
17:05Tama Tonga is rolling.
17:07Tama Tonga is cooking with fire.
17:13Tama sizing Shingo up.
17:16Here we go.
17:18God's done.
17:19God's done.
17:20God's done.
17:21Shingo Takagi, boxing bomber.
17:25This is the night.
17:28And it is all made in Japan.
17:32Cover.
17:34No, no, no, no.
17:37How in the hell?
17:41I don't know what it sounds like to you guys at home.
17:45But there is an explosion in my headset right here.
17:49Tokyo Dome is rocking along with this Neville Openweight Championship match.
17:53There's an explosion in my chest.
17:55My heart is beating so fast.
17:58Shingo Takagi.
18:02Man, man, he couldn't put Tama Tonga down with his best shot.
18:06Well, it's the year of the Dragon.
18:09It might end with last of the Dragon.
18:13He can't, he can't hoist him, Walker.
18:15Yeah, the strength's just not there with the wrist clutch.
18:18Gonna have to weaken Tama Tonga down just a little bit more.
18:21But we know it's something Takagi has it up.
18:23One, two, three, two.
18:25Oh.
18:27Tonga falls down to his knees.
18:32He's out, Tama's out.
18:34Dead weight.
18:35Yep.
18:35Poised it up.
18:36In Japan.
18:37Last, last, last.
18:39All right.
18:41Oh.
18:41Are you kidding me?
18:45Yeah.
18:45Oh.
18:45Oh, yeah.
18:48Open it up.
18:49Tama Tonga is pulling out all of the stops.
18:54And all of the moves.
18:56Gunstun.
18:56Oh.
18:58That's it, fellas.
19:00That's it.
19:00New Jack.
19:02Goal.
19:03Goal.
19:04And all of those fundamental players of his past for Tama Tonga, the gunstun for Karl Anderson.
19:12The bloody Sunday of debit, the style splash.
19:16And now, DSD.
19:18DSD.
19:20Oh.
19:21Tama Tonga, we have a new never open weight champion tonight in the Tokyo Tones.
19:29In the Tokyo Tones, it's a champion of Tama Tonga.
19:3413 minutes of badassery.
19:40And if you had any doubt in your mind about Tama Tonga not being the BMF never champion,
19:51oh my god, what do you want?
19:53The reality is, Chris, the way these men's bodies are damaged after this one,
19:58you would think they didn't go 13.
20:01You would think they went 45 or 50.
20:03Tama Tonga walks away.
20:06Now, a Thor Tot never open weight champion.
20:10That is exactly the kind of action, the kind of performance, and the kind of champion,
20:19both new and outgoing, that never represents.
20:29Man, what a war.
20:30That was awesome.
20:40Tama giving Shingo the knot there.
20:49There's gotta be a lot of frustration for Shingo Takagi now having lost his never open weight championship.
20:54However, it is Tama Tonga who finds himself back at the top of the never division.
21:05The year of 2024, could be the year for Tama Tonga, Chris Charlton.
21:11We saw him do it at Wrestle Kingdom 17 against Karl Anderson.
21:15We see him do it tonight against Shingo Takagi.
21:202025, 2024, what is to happen in the coming years?
21:25Well, yeah, we've seen it many a time, and Tama knows it all too well.
21:30Winning the championship is one thing, keeping it quite another.
21:34But Tama Tonga, we've seen also what a fighting champion,
21:39and what a great man to represent that never brand, Tama is.
21:44I'm interested to see how Tama Tonga does in his very first defense in this ring as champion.
21:50The last first defense that he had in his last reign did not go the way that he planned,
21:55how he lost it to Shingo Takagi.
21:57The future is bright for Tama Tonga, but he has a lot of things he's gonna have to overcome.
22:01The work always begins after you win the title.
22:10Rocky, I think we've seen the growth of Tama Tonga over the last few years.
22:14Veteran though he is, the personal growth and the growth as a competitor that he's had,
22:20now to be never champion for the full title.
22:22As a competitor, as a family man, as a champion, as a fan favorite, the world is Tama Tonga's.
22:40Ain't nobody real in the Gorilla.
22:42That's what I hear.
22:46What a moment for Tama.
22:49And we'll see whether it can be 2-0 for the Gorillas with Destiny up next, Walker.
22:57You know what it's coming to?
22:59It is the IWGP tag team.
23:01Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait, wait.
23:02Wait, wait.
23:03Whoa.
23:07What?
23:07Are you serious?
23:09What?
23:09Nick Nemeth and Ryan Nemeth in the house?
23:12Whoa, man.
23:13There's a little bit of a bustle as these guys make their way through into the VIP seats.
23:18So you're seeing a lot of promotions from across Asia.
23:21Wow.
23:23And Nick Nemeth wants to take a close look at what's coming up.
23:28This is a wanted man right here, Chris Charlton.
23:30I'm very intrigued.
