00:00Marcus, thanks for coming on, man.
00:01We appreciate it.
00:03For sure.
00:04Thank you guys for having me.
00:05First of all, congratulations.
00:07That was a good one, man.
00:09I mean, it was especially what you guys were able to do with all the injuries.
00:13And I know that, you know, Marcus, you guys were down so many corners yesterday.
00:16Did you, like, look around before the game and think,
00:18man, we're going to have to figure this out on the fly?
00:22No.
00:23We know when it comes down to the National Football League, man,
00:26it's the next man up mentality.
00:28So, you know, you had a lot of guys that took advantage of the opportunity
00:31and everything like that.
00:32And, you know, we all understand that, you know,
00:34we all have to prepare starters.
00:38Hey, Marcus, I'm curious.
00:40You guys really dialed up the heat yesterday.
00:43I think cover zero was probably called at me maybe half a dozen times.
00:48And you guys were very successful in getting to him
00:50and getting free rushers to get to him so that he did the old chuck and duck
00:54for most of those blitzes.
00:57Was that a strategy for you guys going in?
00:59Like, if we can just get pressure on Cousins quick,
01:04that it might, you know, kind of help out in covering guys on the back end.
01:08Was that a strategy that you guys thought that maybe you can exploit
01:11their offensive line with your blitz packages?
01:15I mean, we knew that, you know, Kirk Cousins,
01:17he's played a lot of football and has seen a lot of football.
01:20So when you have guys that's been in a league and can play at a high level like him,
01:25you know, like you can't just have those guys sitting in the pocket
01:27because they can pick apart defenses from the situation of knowledge
01:31and seeing a lot of different things.
01:32So, you know, we know that we're really good at, you know,
01:35getting pressure on the quarterback.
01:36So that's something that we always try to take advantage of.
01:39Hey, Marcus, what can you tell us about your teammate, Kendall Vildor?
01:41He got a game ball there afterwards.
01:43What did you think of his performance yesterday?
01:44And what should we know about Kendall?
01:48Yeah, Kendall, man, great player.
01:50You know, the guy that he's played a lot of football.
01:53You know, he's moved around in different teams and everything.
01:55But whenever he came in here, man,
01:57he's been a guy that's been making plays for a minute, man.
01:59I'm definitely happy for him.
02:01And, you know, whenever his name was called,
02:03like all of us in the DB room and as a defense of the whole,
02:06like everyone as part of the organization know that, you know,
02:09he's going to take advantage of the opportunity.
02:10And he's a guy that, you know, has been making plays and everything like that.
02:14So definitely excited for him.
02:15So, Marcus, there is, I don't want to say rumor,
02:18I'm saying that A.J. Brown is now officially available to be able to return this week.
02:24There's no word as to whether or not he is going to play.
02:28But when you were in the preseason, did you get to get some reps against him?
02:32And if so, what is it like going up against and defending a guy like A.J. Brown?
02:37Yeah, man, he's a great player.
02:39He's a guy that, you know, can run all the routes in a route tree and everything like that.
02:43He's a guy that physical at the catch point and a guy that can also, you know,
02:47create separation and everything like that too as well.
02:49So he's a guy that's, you know, been playing in the National Football League for a minute
02:52and then also has deep ball threats when it comes down to catching a deep ball as well.
03:00Marcus, after Chisholm's kind of building on what he was able to do last week against the Bills.
03:06He had multiple catches in this game with five catches for 57 yards.
03:10What's it like about, you know, what is it about him that, you know,
03:14is making him get more reps as the season goes on?
03:17What makes him, you know, flash like he's flashing?
03:22Yeah, the main thing is consistency.
03:24Like, he's been consistent ever since he's been a part of this organization.
03:27Like, when it comes down to the situation of taking care of his body,
03:31things, the extra stuff that he needs to do after practice, all of those things.
03:34So, you know, we knew that he was a guy that was making plays and everything like that last year
03:40as well
03:40in the preseason and things like that too as well.
03:42So he's been a guy that's been doing that in training camp, all of those things.
03:46So whenever his name was called, man, we know those guys worked hard and everything
03:49and we love to see the spotlight, you know, shine on them whenever it comes down to making plays.
03:54Marcus, you've covered some elite pass catchers in this league.
03:57How does Brock Bowers compare?
03:58And how did you guys, more importantly, adjust as the game went on to him?
04:02Yeah, man, he's a great player when it comes down to it.
04:05Like, very physical at the catch point and everything like that.
04:08Whenever we got back into, you know, halftime, there's always adjustments and everything.
04:12And our main thing was just not to lose focus on the situation of getting pressure on Kurt Cousins
04:18and everything like that.
04:18Of course, it wasn't my best game as an individual, but at the end of the day, we got the
04:22W.
04:23But I love the situation of the game of football because it's always lessons
04:27and how you're going to respond and everything as an individual to a healthy team
04:31and everything like that is the most important thing.
04:33So glad we got the W.
04:34But our main thing was, you know, understanding that when it comes down to it,
04:38the quarterback has to get the ball to the receiver.
04:39So we got to play as a team and understand that and then go from there.
04:43All right.
04:43We are talking to Marcus Jones here on a Patriots Monday on WEI.
04:46If my math is correct, you were three years old when the 2001 Patriots team won that Super Bowl.
04:53And yesterday they did a really cool thing down there honoring that team.
04:58And our own Ted Johnson right here on the show, he was part of that team
05:02and he was out there yesterday.
05:04Is there anything, because I think it was even Vrabel who said that he wanted to use that team
05:09as like a framework for what you guys are doing now or a blueprint.
05:13Is there anything you remember about that 2001 team?
05:16And did you have any interaction with any of those guys this weekend?
05:21So we've seen them for a little bit.
05:22I didn't have any interaction, but first off, man, history, you know, is very important.
05:27You know, that team and everything like that helped us establish the situation of stuff
05:32that we want to end up happening for the success of our team.
05:35You know what I mean?
05:36Like they were, he was talking about it a little bit of like five and five at one point
05:40and everything like that.
05:41And we were two and two, you know, like just the 500 situation of understanding that.
05:45And then controlling your destiny, he talked a little bit more about that too as well
05:50and understanding that, you know, in order to get to where we need to go, you know, all
05:54of us have to buy into the identity and everything.
05:57And at the end of the day, like every team has an identity.
05:59And if you, you know, you know, chase that and make sure to try to display that 24-7, man,
06:05the ball can definitely roll your way.
06:07So understanding that and then talking about those things definitely helped us out.
06:11Hey, Marcus, I see you're going to be scooping some ice cream in Foxborough tomorrow night
06:14to benefit Special Olympics Massachusetts.
06:16Can you tell us a little bit about that?
06:19Yeah, man.
06:20Tomorrow from 6 to 9, my girlfriend and I will be out there from 6 p.m. to 7 p
06:27.m.
06:27scooping some ice cream.
06:29Special Olympics will be out there.
06:30And then some of the money and everything like that will also go to Special Olympics
06:34and then also Beach Club.
06:35So that's going to be really cool.
06:37So I'm happy to be a part of that and looking forward to seeing everyone come support.
06:42And I hope everyone, you know, comes and get their favorite ice cream and everything
06:46and have a good time.
06:46Hell yeah.
06:47People are going to be in a good mood because the team's doing well, Marcus.
06:50That should be a lot of fun.
06:51Marcus Jones, great stuff.
06:53Thanks for coming on with us, man.
06:53We really appreciate it.
06:55For sure.
06:56I appreciate you guys as well.
