00:01yeah the there was not a lot of specificity maybe that was planned that way that they weren't going
00:07to throw each other under the bus um jaden's top down comment was interesting because you know uh
00:15it's a bit of an implication that he was not really told specifically what to do i don't know
00:21if that's true or not i can just tell you this it was very obvious i think to all of
00:27us that they
00:28called a regular play that is a massive massive clock management error in that particular situation
00:38you cannot call a play with no timeouts and the clock they didn't snap it until 15 14 seconds left
00:47with motion with a long count given all the pre-snap penalties we've seen you could have ended
00:54up with 10 seconds left and a 10 second runoff with a false start or an illegal shift you don't
01:02call a
01:02regular play there period the play is to clock the ball with 12 to 13 seconds left
01:12again this is going to go down as one of if not the worst clock management blunder in nfl history
01:21it's on the short list it's the most embarrassing sequence um in franchise history for sure and
01:27it's inexcusable you know it just is um is there an explanation for what happened you know you heard
01:35quinn kind of take the blame but with nowhere near enough detail on why it happened you heard jaden say
01:41that he needs to do better but implied that the top-down communication needs to be better also
01:46we won't hear from david blau until thursday uh i think it's thursday with a monday night game it
01:51might be for it might be friday i forget how it works this week with a monday night game here
01:56are
01:56the three questions that i would want definitive answers to number one did you know dan quinn that you
02:06didn't have any timeouts he implied that he knew it okay but nobody on the field seemed to know it
02:12there
02:12was no immediate urgency after jaden got tackled until they looked over to the sideline and everybody's
02:18screaming get up get up get up we need to clock it but you know assuming that he did know
02:23that they
02:24were out of timeouts the next question would be did the players in addition to the quarterback the
02:31players on the field did they know that they didn't have any more timeouts chris paul took uh told scott
02:38abraham from channel 7 that they did know which would then lead to question three which is what
02:44was the play call it looked like a play in which they were trying to run a play action pass
02:51now maybe
02:53the idea was a play action pass and throw to the flat but still you got to be careful on
02:58a play like
02:59that because if it gets caught in bounds and you don't make forward progress going out of bounds then
03:05the referee will roll the clock and the game ends there
03:11i think any answer that isn't on what the play call was that isn't yeah we were very clear
03:20it was to let the clock roll we didn't want the giants in the event the kick was missed to
03:26have
03:26and that's very important i emphasized this in the beginning but for those of you just joining in
03:31those of you that think they just should have kicked it you know 50 seconds 40 seconds 30 seconds
03:36no that would have been horrible clock management as well you the game does not end on a missed field
03:41goal okay if there's still time on the clock the giants would have gotten the ball back so the giants
03:47let me just mention the giants messed up they could have literally taken two knees and then clocked
03:54it with three seconds to go and kick the field goal now their situation was different their kicker
04:00missed three field goals so maybe they were hoping scadaboo would break one you know and put them
04:05into super i mean they were at the 24 that's chip shot territory for any nfl kicker they could have
04:12just
04:12as easily taken two knees because washington had no timeouts at the two-minute warning and they had
04:18a first and 10 at the washington 24 they could have taken two knees and then gotten up to the
04:24line of
04:24scrimmage and spiked it on the third one with say three or four seconds left on the clock and then
04:32kicked the field goal they could have done that um and then would have either won the game or tied
04:38the
04:39game based on the result of the field goal they decided to run it with scadaboo and deron paine made
04:44a great play but there should be some criticism for john harbaugh but there is an easy answer
04:50from harbaugh and that is our kicker had missed three field goals we actually were thinking touchdown
04:57we were going to throw it on second down we were going to take some shots why not likely and
05:04malik
05:04neighbors are still open um but again the only answer on what the play call was if they knew what
05:17they
05:17were doing was to say the play call was to let the clock roll down to 12 or 13 seconds
05:24and clock it
05:26um now is it possible that their retort would be well actually we wanted to move it to the other
05:32hash
05:33the hash that stevens felt most comfortable with well in that situation then you do that
05:39with 30 seconds you snap it and jaden moves over to the left hash you know and and then you
05:45spike it
05:46with three seconds left and have it be the truly final play of the game but just understand people
05:51that if a game doesn't end with a drew stevens missed kick if they ended up kicking it with
05:5630 seconds which some of you seem to think would have been the smart thing to do no that would
06:00not
06:00have been smart that would have been something that they could have been absolutely vilified crucified
06:07constructively criticized for had stevens missed and the giants got a big completion to to you know malik
06:15neighbors to the washington 40 and the giants kicked a walk-off field goal to win it imagine
06:20that conversation would have been better because it wouldn't have ended the way it did they would
06:26have had a field goal attempt we would have been talking about drew stevens missing a short one but
06:30in those situations the right thing to do is you want to kick that field goal with as little time
06:36possible so in the event the kick is missed the other team doesn't have time to beat you with a
06:42big
06:42completion and their own field goal attempt um so i let me you know this is number one on the
06:51list of
06:51bad by the way we're doing the list of things that were terrible from the game number one is the
06:56end of
06:56game sequence i've gone through you know everything that i thought should have happened i think there
07:01should have been a clock with about 12 to 13 seconds left four seconds left on the play clock just
07:06in the
07:06event that there's some sort of pre-snap penalty in a 10 second runoff you would have the ability to
07:11line back up with five yards back and then clock it again after the 10 second runoff and send your
07:17kicker out there with still two seconds left if you snap it and clock it with 10 seconds or less
07:23and the delay game would have been at nine seconds then the game clock expires on a 10 second runoff
07:29and
07:29they've had a lot of pre-snap penalties as by the way the rest of the league has as well
07:33um but that's beside the point so that should have been what they did um and then you kick it
07:40or if you want to run a sprint out and throw the ball out of bounds you know to burn
07:44another four or
07:45five seconds before fourth down and kick it that's fine there's no benefit by the way again from kicking
07:49it on third down because you don't have timeout so if it's a bad snap the game's going to end
07:54anyway
07:54if you don't get the kickoff okay because you don't have a timeout to to call um so yeah this
08:02was so
08:04inexcusable because it was so controllable and so obvious
08:11uh anyway there are a couple of possibilities i think there are three possibilities on what happened
08:17okay and i'll tell you which one i think it was number one is nobody knew that they didn't have
08:22a timeout left and what how could that happen well it's overtime you only get two timeouts it's
08:28you know is it possible given what we saw at the end that they thought you get three in overtime
08:33and
08:34they thought they had one left i don't think that's what happened i don't i think they knew they didn't
08:39have any timeouts left um but it's not as far-fetched given what we witnessed at the end to consider
08:47that
08:47but that's one possibility nobody knew that they didn't have a timeout left left i don't think that
08:52that is what it was number two is the coaches knew that they didn't have a timeout left but they
08:58didn't communicate it to jaden daniels and the players but again you would think that if that
09:05was the case that the play call would have been much different than the one that apparently came
09:11out it came in because the only thing that matters there and is paramount is you run the clock down
09:17as
09:17far as you should strategically and then you kill the clock um now you know chris paul told scott
09:25abraham jaden they knew in the huddle you know after the rashad white run with 50 seconds left that
09:32they didn't have any timeouts left um and then you know let me just say either one of those two
09:39possibilities solely on the head coach that's his job to manage you know those winning margin plays
09:45and then the third possibility is jaden completely blew it they told him he needed to clock it or
09:53they told him that he needed with this play call to throw the ball over the heads of a receiver
09:59out
10:00of bounds and he just blanked and blew it you know like cousins remember in the philadelphia game in 2015
10:08at the end of a half in a game that they won big but he took a knee instead of
10:13spiking it and the
10:15clock ran out without them getting a field goal an all-time boneheaded play which jay gruden by the
10:20way blames pierre garcon for um because he refused to run uh a corner route that they were going to
10:27throw
10:27away to him uh and so when he didn't run kirk it was on kirk i i i've tried not
10:35to let jay off the hook
10:36for saying it was pierre's fault but the third possibility is that the play that they called in
10:44was hey we have to clock it here and jayden ignored it and called a different play or they call
10:52the play
10:52in which they were going to throw something out in the flat to to get out of bounds and get
10:59a few extra
11:00yards which quinn did say we were looking for a little bit more yardage why you don't need any
11:06more yardage you can't risk three yards of yardage for senate catching the ball and being stopped
11:14forward progress in bounds and them running the clock but the third possibility is they told jayden
11:20everything they should have told him in that moment now i think the only play and the most the safest
11:27and
11:27the right play was to clock it with 12 to 13 seconds they have they obviously did not call that
11:32play okay i think we know that they did not call a play to clock it with 12 to 13
11:38seconds left in the
11:39game they called a play that involved a long count motion and some play action and with receivers going
11:50down the field including one in the flat when the play ended nobody seemed to know
11:57that the clock was going to run out on them until that you could see the sideline they looked over
12:02and all of a sudden they picked jayden up but at the very end of the play receivers everybody they
12:08seem
12:09clueless as to what just happened but i do not take jayden off the hook whether his coaches communicated
12:17it or not because it is a sign with all the greatness around him that he's not aware of game
12:25and clock
12:26situations like a lot of the greats are he's gonna have to learn it quickly because again
12:32uh uh an all-time great quarterback okay veterans understood he's in his third year
12:40um but they look over when the play call comes in and they say what are you guys out of
12:46your mind
12:48ignore that i'm gonna clock it with 12 seconds to go that's what i'm gonna do i'm gonna take control
12:53of this and save them from themselves and he didn't do it
12:58all right overtime an epic game that lasted three hours and 43 minutes there's a lot going on there
13:06at the end and you it doesn't matter you got to have one person that really understands this and is
13:13buttoned up and is only focused on this and when when blouse starts to call in some play
13:21he tells quinn tell him to tell jayden to spike it with 12 seconds it's the only play all right
13:28what
13:28else is on the bad list the second half defense obviously i mean this was a game in which they
13:33allowed
13:3377 yards of offense in the first half and ended up giving up 331 yards 331 in a half
13:45to the new york football giants now the giants have some players man likely is a tough cover malik
13:51neighbors elite level um they did it without a running game for the most part too except for jamis on
13:57third and long on his 20 yard run um the second half defense was abysmal and it starts with the
14:04obvious that that when they got up 27 to 13 they seemed to relax defensively they seemed to you know
14:14the pressure seemed to die down now they came back with pressure and then jamis started to absolutely
14:21shred the blitz uh the coverage unlikely in neighbors was horrendous the fourth and seven
14:29touchdown was the the one to likely that made it 27 to 20 watch that play do you know who
14:36drops back
14:37in coverage and has isaiah likely responsibility it would appear duran pain what are you doing
14:46it's fourth and seven we're gonna zone blitz we're gonna drop duran pain into the area of one of the
14:55best pass catching tight ends in the league who is absolutely annihilated you today
15:03i i thought it was a terrible half for durante jones after a great first half and i'll get to
15:09blau in a
15:10moment but they could not get the giants off the field they had a 14 point lead with 10 minutes
15:18to
15:18go led over 10 minutes to go malik neighbors caught 11 balls for 121 yards on 20 targets isaiah likely
15:2611 catches 94 yards on 13 targets jamis winston all right in the second half was 21 of 28 and
15:34through
15:34three touchdown passes he ended up 33 of 54 for 326 yards the majority of that coming in the second
15:42half no picks from jamis although man jeremy reeves should have had one in overtime to end the game
15:51he fumbled once that was huge uh jamis winston you know let's not forget he was a number one pick
16:01in an nfl draft in 2015 he has the ability to light you up always has his thing has always
16:09been
16:10i'm really kind of you know partial to keeping both teams in the game so we can have an exciting
16:16game
16:17witness the year he threw 33 touchdowns and 30 picks they couldn't cover likely they couldn't cover
16:24neighbors they started to get shredded with the blitz they dropped duran pain back in coverage on a fourth
16:30and seven touchdown pass to isaiah likely to cover the field a part of the field that likely was
16:36wide open on not a good half for the defense this was a team that was three for eight on
16:42first down
16:43on third downs in the first half and in the second half they went five for nine and two of
16:49two on fourth
16:50downs the giants ended up with 408 yards of offense after 77 in the first half it's hard in the
16:56nfl to have
16:58331 yards and a half that's what the giants produced they also had the ball 84 offensive
17:06snaps to washington 60 they had 24 more offensive snaps in the game the second half defense was
17:13an absolute sieve and alarming and i didn't like the way they played that first drive up 27 13 i
17:20thought
17:20they got soft and conservative and you don't want to do that against uh jamis winston uh david blau i
17:28can't tell you why they didn't have an answer to the blitz and we're talking about you know the things
17:35that we know as nfl fans which isn't a lot but we know that zero coverage blitz there's or just
17:41any sort
17:42of you know blitz in which you can't pick up all of the blitzers you don't have you're one short
17:48to block
17:49their pass rush sometimes too short what do you usually have you have at least one quick answer
17:56for the quarterback somebody's available it's a quick screen it's a quick hitch it's a quick slant
18:04and sometimes it's we're gonna try to block this thing up and we're gonna we're gonna we're gonna
18:09throw it deep but everybody for a while was running deep there was nothing short i did i could easily
18:18be
18:19told here's what we were doing and here's why it wasn't done well because it wasn't executed well
18:24whatever i actually thought one of those zero coverage blitzes it got blocked up pretty well
18:29and jaden just let it go early but it blau adjusted in overtime all of a sudden we saw screens
18:36we saw
18:37quick ones to terry to burks um the penalties on the list of things that weren't good from this game
18:49another nine for 69 yards look the whole league is getting you know i told you last week washington
18:56was 15th i'll check the numbers i haven't checked them this morning i'm gonna guess that they're not
19:01that much further up the list because it seemed like every game i watched starting thursday night
19:05the flags were flying tampa bay won on thursday night with i think 15 penalties against them
19:10yesterday's early game jacksonville and philly what an ending that was lots of penalties but too much
19:17of the pre-snap stuff too much of the stuff that's that's hurting look i i hated the call on
19:24amik robertson
19:24absolutely hated the call i actually thought they got it wrong in that i thought it was more of a
19:30defensive hold if they were going to call anything on the ticky tack tug it's a hold not dpi not
19:37defensive
19:37pass interference big difference five yards versus spot foul um but the penalties have to stop uh what
19:48else is on the list of bad stevens missing a third pat after the first touchdown it didn't ultimately hurt
19:57them because they made the two-point conversion after the touchdown that made it 25 13 i love by the
20:03way that they didn't go for the two um after the touchdown that made it um 19 to 6 right
20:11uh yeah
20:12i'm glad they didn't do it then uh it would have been too early so when they did it made
20:17total sense
20:18they converted on it so the miss pat didn't hurt them because they got to the number they should have
20:22gotten to which was 27 uh but yeah he's missed three paid pats one of them was from 48 yards
20:29against
20:30seattle understood um what else is on the list of look jeremy reeves had such an opportunity when
20:39philadelphia was backed up in overtime that he's such a good player i mean he is such a good player
20:47when they were backed up after that punt to the nine yard line and he had a chance with the
20:52ball in his
20:53hands at about the 10 yard line that would have been the jeremy reeves play that we would have
20:59talked about forever it was in his hands you gotta catch that we talked about it on friday james is
21:05gonna make some bad throws he didn't make as many as he normally makes because people were just too
21:09wide open but he's gonna put one or two or three in your chest and you gotta catch him you
21:16gotta make
21:16him pay and reeves had a chance to end the game right then and there by the way there would
21:21have been no
21:22threat at that point of the game clock running out because that was five minutes to go in overtime
21:28five and a half minutes to go in overtime and it was right in his chest essentially for all intents
21:35and
21:36purposes and the football game uh what else i think that's it i have several other observations and now
21:45i'll turn it over to you guys at 301-230-0980 this is one we're going to talk about for
21:53a long time
21:54and to emphasize again this is not on its own in my opinion in this context a fireable offense
22:03but it is if dan quinn gets released at the end of this year this is at the top of
22:09the list of the
22:09reasons because the margins in nfl games are so fine line and you've got to win on the margins and
22:18one of those areas is in game clock score management and in back-to-back weeks they have really well
22:28last
22:28week's fourth and one decision i felt it was as critical of a decision as i've been with dan quinn
22:35in
22:35terms of in game uh that was not a feeling the game situation with a third string quarterback
22:41um and then trying to trick play with a sub package with craig reynolds i that one is a head
22:48scratcher it doesn't even compare to what happened yesterday yesterday's an all-time nfl clock management
22:56blunder fans outside of our market and outside of new york giant fans will remember this nfl people
23:03will be talking about this forever this will be along with 28 to 3 lead in the super bowl
23:09and him being the head coach of a team that blew the biggest super bowl lead of all time
23:13which by the way they got to a super bowl and had a 28 to 3 lead there is some
23:17credit that he gets for
23:18that but this is going to be remembered he's going to be hung with this whether it was his fault
23:23or not
23:24and i don't know how you can take him off the hook i based on what we know and what
23:29we saw
23:30the bulk of the blame goes on the head coach and i don't think it's fatal now um but i
23:37think it's
23:37fatal unless they turn this season around and win eight of their final 12 to finish at least nine seven
23:45and one you know and have a legit shot at the postseason hey the good news is we won't really
23:51more likely than not be talking about tiebreaker scenarios with the tie unless it's with the giants
23:57okay
