After a bad first impression, this Kuala Lumpur travel vlog gives Malaysia’s capital a second chance and turns into an unexpectedly chaotic redemption trip. The day starts with their YouTube channel being hacked, then continues through airport confusion, Grab chaos, and a long transfer into the city centre. Even with the stress, they settle into a much better stay and begin exploring a very different side of Kuala Lumpur.
From Kuala Lumpur City Centre and the Petronas Towers to Batu Caves and Kanching Waterfalls, the trip mixes city sightseeing, street food, and family travel. They try a modern Airbnb-style apartment, visit The Dome overlooking KLCC Park, eat spicy wings and mac and cheese, and head up the Batu Caves steps before finishing in the quiet greenery near the waterfalls.
This is a first-person travel vlog, Malaysia city guide, and honest revisit of Kuala Lumpur for viewers who enjoy real travel experiences, food stops, and iconic landmarks. It also works well as a virtual travel video, Kuala Lumpur itinerary inspiration, and Southeast Asia travel content for anyone comparing airport transfers, city stays, and must-see attractions.

00:00We are on our way to Kuala Lumpur. The first time we went really didn't enjoy it.
00:05I mean we had like a really bad experience.
00:16Our YouTube account got hijacked this morning.
00:25It's telling us to cross the street here and there's no like street crossing or anything
00:29but it's just people crossing here. I hate this one.
00:54On the road again.
00:55Oh!
01:07Kuala, come on.
01:12Hey Bong. The Lloyd, yeah.
01:46Third time ever. We just had some down time in CM Reap for actually close to two months. We've just
01:53been
01:53editing and planning our next trip. So we're about to board the plane. It's been a hectic morning
01:59but the whole reason we're going to KL we're going to spend a few days there is because the first
02:04time
02:04we went really didn't enjoy it. I mean we had like a really bad experience. It was close to COVID.
02:11It was
02:11like early 2022. So there was still that vibe but we just didn't really enjoy the city at all and
02:21we
02:21wanted to go back and kind of have a bit of a redemption. So that's kind of what this is
02:25about.
02:25We've got a few things planned but we're just going to see what happens and see if Kuala Lumpur
02:30can be a city that we actually enjoy because it's such an easy stopover from just about anywhere.
02:35It's like the cheapest flight from Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia. Like it's right in the middle
02:40of Southeast Asia. So we're going to see if this trip is a little bit better.
03:25Take your head like this, clip on the waistband and pull it tight.
04:05It's the most insane rideshare pickup I've ever seen in any country, I think.
04:09There's this big board here, and it has the number plate of each grab that's coming, and
04:15they're not allowed to wait.
04:16So as soon as it pulls up, you've got to jump in and go.
04:18There's like, at any given time, probably 100 people waiting for grabs.
04:23It's insane.
04:27I don't know how, but even the short travel days end up taking all day somehow.
04:33It's 8 p.m., and we're still at the airport.
04:38I don't know.
04:41It might be like an hour.
05:04I don't know.
06:08Oh, all right, we made it.
06:12Yesterday was a long day, actually.
06:14We're only flying from Sam Reap to Kuala Lumpur, but man, KL Airport is, has to be one of the
06:22biggest airports in the world.
06:23It feels like it. When you land, it's like a shopping mall and you have to figure out where to
06:28go to get a grab taxi or like a ride share thing.
06:34And they have this giant board on the screen and it's just chaos.
06:38There's like a hundred different people at each time waiting for a grab and you can't have the grab driver
06:45stop or anything.
06:46So you've got to be on the go, like ready to go.
06:49So we managed to do that. And then it was about a 45 to 45 minute to one hour drive
06:55from the airport to where we're staying, which is like in the center of KL.
06:59That's my only issue with Kuala Lumpur is the airport's quite far from the city center.
07:05And it was already like, I think eight or nine o'clock or something.
07:08So Lila was getting pretty tired.
07:10And then we made it here and where we're staying so far looks awesome.
07:16We're going to explore the rooftop and everything in a minute, but there's three different buildings and we got dropped
07:21off at the wrong building, of course,
07:23which was kind of frustrating, but luckily I was able to message the Airbnb host and they were really good.
07:28They told us exactly where to go, send us photos and everything.
07:31So we got that figured out and we weren't stranded outside for too long because we were really, really tired
07:37already.
07:37But that honestly is why I've been beating this drum for three, four years.
07:42Like I always recommend having an eSIM set up before you land in a new country, because if we didn't
07:49and I didn't have any data,
07:51we would have just been standing out on the side of the road with all our luggage, trying to figure
07:55out which building to go into and how to check into this Airbnb.
07:59So we always have an eSIM set up.
08:01We're using Erlo on this trip to Malaysia.
08:04I will leave a link down below and also put a QR code on screen to make it easier.
08:09And if you want to get 15% off your first Erlo eSIM, use the code NEWTOERLO15 and you'll get
08:1615% off.
08:17But what I'm really liking about Erlo so far is you just download the app and you can buy an
08:22eSIM straight off the app.
08:23And then you can choose which destination you want.
08:26They do like 200 different countries, different gigabytes or unlimited plans.
08:31And you can choose regions as well.
08:33So we actually got a regional one because we're going to be going to some other places after Malaysia.
08:39And I'm just, I don't want to have to re-buy an eSIM.
08:41But if you did have to re-buy an eSIM, they send you notifications to your phone telling you how
08:46many days left you have.
08:48And you can just top up straight from your phone, which makes it really easy.
08:51And if you're exploring a new city like KL or anywhere really, you need to have data from the minute
08:57you get here.
08:57If you're ordering grabs, taxis, using maps, and just figuring out your bearings, you have to have an eSIM set
09:04up.
09:05So if you want to check out Erlo, highly recommend it.
09:07As I said, I'll leave a link down below and a QR code up here on the screen.
09:11And you can use code NEWTOERLO15 for 15% off.
09:27So if you're having to check out your's-it密 to check out your's-it密 to nurse them.
09:29All right.
09:38Thank you, KIA.
09:43Stay safe guys.
09:44Me too.
09:46Dr. Salo
09:47Someone
09:47Went
09:57Okay, we're already having a way better experience in KL than we had last time and it's pretty
10:03much just because the accommodation is ten times better.
10:07Last time we were here we were in this old, decrepit hotel, we were in a really small
10:14room and kind of not a nice area but this place is like a really nice Airbnb it's
10:20modern there's a really nice pool and gym and play area and it's in a good spot
10:26like we're right in the middle of like the shopping district so we've only been
10:31here like 12 hours and already the level's gone up a lot.
10:41Where are we going?
10:43To a cafe called the or just dome that overlooks KLCC park it's meant to be good
10:50people watching and I think it has like a view of the fountain it said on online so
10:57we'll just go check that out hang out for a bit we're due for a drink I think we're
11:04we're both feeling like we just want to chill and relax the reason Mandy says we
11:10need to chill and relax we actually had a really chill morning and even the travel
11:16here wasn't too bad it started off really good but our YouTube account got hijacked
11:31it's our full time job and business hopefully this video will get uploaded to
11:36that channel but yeah we we got hacked and our YouTube account got hijacked we notified
11:45youtube straight away and they've suspended it um so that nobody could like start uploading i don't
11:52know like live streams or bloody what would they do videos yeah um so that's like kind of stressful
12:02but we're just trying to be positive and not think about it too much because it will get fixed
12:07pretty sure there's always something i've learned in life there's always something to be stressed
12:13about and if you let stress run your life then you're just always stressed you gotta just let
12:19stress kind of hang out in the back seat and learn to drive the car yourself yeah i'm not stressed
12:48so
13:17We'll see you next time.
13:35Wow, are we having a bit of a day today?
13:40We're convinced we're not going to let this day break us, but we've had our YouTube channel
13:47hijacked and can't seem to get a grab in the city.
13:53It was 20 minutes wait for the grab, so we're walking anyway.
13:57The only problem is Lila's sleeping is off because of the travel, so she's having a nap
14:04now.
14:05At 6pm.
14:08So are we going to carry her?
14:09Yeah.
14:10We have our genes.
14:12If you don't know us in person, Lila and I are both quite tall.
14:17We're bigger humans, so we have quite a large baby for her age.
14:21She's quite heavy and walking around the city carrying her like this.
14:24We were going to bring the baby carrier too and we were like, no, it's fine.
14:27So yeah, but we're not letting this day break us.
14:30I have a feeling that where we're heading is going to make all of this work.
14:34Come on.
14:41It's telling us to cross the street here and there's no like street crossing or anything
14:45with it.
14:45It's just people crossing here.
14:49I hate this one.
14:51Oh, she's going.
14:58Why is this the spot when there's no actual crossing here?
15:13There we go.
15:16Strength in numbers.
15:30This is so hectic.
15:45Okay, we're arriving right as it's kind of opened.
15:48I think it opened at five and it's very dead.
15:50Looks like we might be the only ones here.
15:53Is it open?
15:57It is open.
16:01I don't think anyone knows about it.
16:04I think it gets busy very well.
16:06Yeah.
16:12Looks like we're like super early.
16:14Yeah.
16:17Could be a late end.
16:19Yeah.
16:21Okay.
16:32Wow.
16:33What a menu.
16:34That's it.
16:35Yeah.
16:37Do you want to do those two?
16:39Yeah.
16:39It's good.
16:40You could be 80.
16:41Yeah.
16:41Yeah.
16:45Yeah.
16:46Yeah.
16:46Yeah.
16:46Yeah.
16:47Yeah.
16:48Seven minutes.
16:48Seven minutes.
16:49Perfect.
16:49Oh, we've got to win.
16:50We found the one stall that takes debit card and so we don't have to walk back and go
16:58to an ATM.
16:59Where do you want to sit, honey?
17:00Do you want to see if we can get any drinks anywhere?
17:02Yeah.
17:25Okay.
17:26So we decided to go spicy tonight.
17:29It's not sure why.
17:30Kind of dangerous.
17:31But we got the devil wings.
17:33Look at these.
17:34These look so good.
17:39And then we also got habanero mac and cheese that looks incredible but I'm really nervous
17:46about how spicy that's going to be.
17:49Oh my gosh.
17:54What is that?
17:55What's that?
17:57It's like a crispy something.
17:59That's going to be good.
18:00I'm so happy that we still came here even though everything was going wrong.
18:04It's awesome.
18:05Even though it's just getting started, this is like the spot that I would have wanted to
18:10hang out.
18:11Like we're still really close to the towers and all the food's really cheap here.
18:15All the drinks and stuff.
18:16No alcohol.
18:17And there's no ATM here and they only take cash so make sure you bring cash if you're
18:21wanting to come here.
18:22But it's slowly starting to fill up.
18:23I think it'll probably be really busy later on tonight.
18:27Here's the mac and cheese.
18:33Let's see how it is.
18:40Wow, it's incredible.
18:42It's got like cherry tomatoes in it as well.
18:47Wasn't expecting to be eating a mac and cheese in Malaysia as our first real meal.
18:54But here we are.
18:57Very cheap too.
18:58I think it was like 15, is it rand?
19:00I think it's rand.
19:01Malaysian rand.
19:02We've been to so many countries that I forget which currency is called what.
19:06So I ended up just calling them all chinga wings.
19:09And I'm going to try one of these wings.
19:10Mandy's not eating yet.
19:11She's not quite hungry.
19:14I can tell that's spicy already just by the sauce.
19:17Look at the colour.
19:24You know it's spicy when it looks like that.
19:26This is going to be messy.
19:36Very nice.
19:38Not that hot actually.
19:41For habanero.
19:43Yeah, not bad.
19:45Wow, I love that you can see the towers from here.
19:47It's so pretty at sunset.
19:50It gets dark really late here.
19:51It's like past seven and the sun's still out.
19:54Or it's still bright out.
19:56So don't think it's going to get busy here until quite a bit later and we got a baby.
19:59So we'll probably miss it.
20:01But definitely worth checking out if you're going to be in KL.
20:04So yeah, tell us a minute.
20:06Yeah.
20:07First and foremost, after the tour game, that's the cave.
20:12Oh, okay.
20:13Batu cave.
20:14Really?
20:14Yeah.
20:15Already.
20:15Because we are driving out, so it's not that crowded.
20:19So Batu, it means stone.
20:23It's a limestone cave.
20:26So the age of the cave is nearly 400 million years.
20:33But the temple inside the cave.
20:36Did you say 400 million?
20:37Yes.
20:38Yeah, you're right.
20:39400 million.
20:40The age of the cave.
20:41Wow.
20:42It's made up from telus light, telus mite.
20:44It's a natural cave.
20:46Wow.
20:46Ah.
20:49Oh, my God.
20:50Oh, my God.
20:53You know what?
20:53Oh.
21:01Famous soul.
21:01That's the peak, Nick.
21:03Got it.
21:14I'm going to go see their wing.
21:45Okay, we're just about to start our climb up these stairs.
21:49I think he said there was like 280 or something like that.
21:54Pop it on the screen.
21:55I can't remember what he said, but a lot.
21:57Okay, there are small steps.
22:05Do you want to go up?
22:07Looks like there's less people.
22:17Your feet don't even fit.
22:20No.
22:21This is going to look huge.
22:25Let's do it.
22:27A bit of morning exercise.
22:29There's lots of monkeys around.
22:45Yeah, it's not that bad.
22:47Almost there.
22:49Lila, do you like it?
22:55It's a piece of paper.
23:13Wow.
23:28The ceiling, like the roof is so high.
23:30It's huge in here.
23:32It smells so good in here.
23:34They've got incense burning.
24:03Pretty amazing.
24:05What do you think?
24:07It's epic.
24:08It's way bigger than I thought it was going to be.
24:10Yeah.
24:15Lots of animals in here.
24:17Look at them.
24:19So I've got a baby on it.
24:22So many babies.
24:23They're the families.
25:18This is Indian sweet donut, can I try one?
25:21One piece, one ringgit fifty cents, four pieces, six ringgit any mix.
25:27Oh, okay. Yeah, we'll get six.
25:30Okay. Is it four pieces or six pieces?
25:32Yeah, four pieces, six ringgit.
25:37We have one donut?
25:38Yeah.
25:40Yeah, one donut.
25:42This chocolate one here.
25:44One chocolate.
25:56One candy.
25:57One candy.
25:58One candy.
26:00Okay, okay.
26:05Okay, two, three.
26:06Okay, go ahead, take me.
26:07I don't know.
27:45All right, we're at the final stop of the tour, which is Canching Waterfall.
27:52It's supposed to be really beautiful, and I'm kind of surprised at how close all of
27:58this is to KL City Centre.
28:00It was about 20 minutes to the Batuu Caves, and then we only drove another, I think, 15
28:08minutes here, and look, we're out like in the middle of the jungle.
28:13It's such a big contrast because KL is just so chaotic and hectic, and then you get out
28:21here and it's just peaceful.
28:22I did not know this existed at all.
28:26You all right?
28:30Should have brought a carrier.
28:31If you ask me what's been happening, I'll say nothing.
28:39You said once I touched the ground, I hate it right.
28:44Well, tell me how am I supposed to stop when I keep stopping?
28:50Tell me how do I make something out of nothing.
29:03What was fine is in the middle of being, I'm not very left behind.
29:11Yeah, every time time cuss me, I'm still shortly bleeding.
29:17I'm not very left behind, I'm not very left behind.
