00:00Many of my constituents in Ealing Southall voted to leave the EU because they were bombarded with lies.
00:05From the mythical ÂŁ350 million a week for the NHS that never appeared,
00:09to the lie that immigration would come down when it actually trebled.
00:13Does the Honourable Member agree that the Prime Minister's announcement of the new National Centre for Information Defence
00:19will help my constituents and his to be protected from foreign state influence
00:24as we now go on to consider our relationship with the EU again?
00:27On the topic of local businesses, 87% of Michael Citroens voted to remain in the EU.
00:33But for kitchen designer Neil Lerner, closing the doors on a family business which has lasted for more than 30
00:39years
00:40was because of a severe downturn in sales caused by Brexit, as he told me.
00:45Or the local bakery, which told me that their paperwork nearly doubled and then closed because of Brexit.
00:51And my personal favourite, John Atkins, who would run a flower stall next to the Royal Free Hospital
00:56for nearly 40 years, said that the cost of tulips because of post-Brexit bureaucracy
01:02has meant it has gone up by 50% since 2020.
01:06So could I ask my Honourable Friend, does he agree with me,
01:09has made our high street significantly worse because of Brexit?
01:12In South Wimbledon, a local Italian bakery, La Batiga del Pan, faces endless form-filling.
01:18In Wimbledon Village, the Forest Gardenia of London, faces similar hurdles.
01:23A small area in complex documentation can leave crucial deliveries tangled in red tape.
01:29Stale bread and dead flowers, a fitting epitaph to Brexit.
01:34And it's not only businesses which have been harmed.
01:36A generation of young people are set to miss out on the life-changing opportunity of working abroad.
01:41From a winter season in the French Alps to a summer in Greece.
01:45These are the formative experiences our young people are currently being denied.
01:49The time has come for a clear and pragmatic roadmap to rebuild our ties with the EU,
01:54as the Lib Dems have been calling for since the last election.
01:57There is a Spanish-Italian deli in my constituency.
01:59I'm sorry that they have no importance.
02:01They have gaps on their shelves. I ask them why.
02:03Their customers are there. The owner is there.
02:05But what they tell me is missing is the food.
02:07And that is because the small supplier of the Spanish-Italian deli has had enough of the reams of EU
02:11red tape
02:12that he's had to deal with since we left.
02:14Now, many people voted for Brexit because they were promised greater prosperity, greater opportunity.
02:21However, these promises simply have not been realised.
02:25And in my opinion, the UK leaving the EU has been an unmitigated disaster and with us becoming poorer as
02:34a result of it.
02:35Ten years on, there are also a growing number of electors who were too young to vote in 2016,
02:41alongside a growing number of those who voted to leave,
02:43but can see that the vote did not allow the country to take back control,
02:47but has in reality made trade with our European partners more difficult
02:51and has held back our economic growth at a time when we needed the opposite.
02:55And that's it.
