One line, and Mike signed for ten thousand dollars more. Has someone ever pressed a weak spot of yours to make you spend? Robert Greene's The 48 Laws of Power calls it Law 33: Discover Each Man's Thumbscrew. This isn't a lesson in pressing other people's weak spots. It's about noticing when someone presses yours.

Mike has driven a city bus for thirty years, and he walks into the venue with a plan: the Silver package for his daughter Emma's wedding, and not a dollar more. Greg, the venue manager, just chats, notices the weak spot, and waits. About four hundred years ago in France: a queen mother who loved praise, a young bishop named Richelieu who, as Greene tells it, praised his way in, and the Day of the Dupes in November 1630. Then how Emma spotted the same line the second time, and two things you can do before anyone presses yours.

Every episode in this series stands on its own. The full series is in the playlist linked at the top.
