The mission for Washington is simple. Play better football and coach with more intent to turn the season around.

00:00I said this before, if you're a regular listener, and we appreciate that,
00:03sometimes the conversations during the breaks are what's most interesting.
00:08You know, you do wonder, and players, I think, by and large,
00:12are going to do their part and not say anything.
00:14You do wonder how frustrated players are from the end of that game.
00:18And some of that needs to be turned inward on the three and outs
00:21late in the fourth quarter, on the defensive effort late in the fourth quarter.
00:25But players, the lack of urgency, like with my children, right?
00:33They reflect what I'm doing.
00:36So when I'm locked in and I'm reading and they see me working out,
00:39like they read and they want to work out and they want to do these things.
00:42When they see me laying on the couch, watching TV, messing around on my phone,
00:47they're like, all right, laying on the couch, messing around on your phone
00:50is appropriate.
00:52Players are reacting to the sideline.
00:54And the lack of urgency coming from that sideline was obvious on the field.
00:59Yeah.
00:59There was a lack of urgency.
01:02And everyone is to blame for it, frankly.
01:07There's other stuff, like penalties on all of these things.
01:12I mean, you had back-to-back false starts.
01:14Yep.
01:15I was just asking about my keys for the game coming up.
01:17First thing, pre-snap penalties, eliminate them.
01:23We're five weeks in?
01:25I can't understand that for the life of me.
01:28And it's every week.
01:30My God, Rusty, is in Delaware.
01:32What's up, Rusty?
01:34How are you doing today?
01:36Good, man.
01:37How are you doing?
01:37We're alive.
01:41So, just a couple different things.
01:42So, number one, I kind of want to touch on the conspiracy with the scoreboard.
01:46You guys know I was there Sunday.
01:48So, the scoreboard did stop at 151.
01:52And when they finally rewound it, it was 129.
01:57So, I don't know.
01:59I think the most accurate amount of time that passed was recorded.
02:04But there was a freeze on the scoreboard with the clock.
02:08Also, with the timeouts, something that I noticed this year in the preseason game,
02:12they moved the timeout cryon or symbol or whatever you want to do,
02:18they moved that to another side of the scoreboard.
02:20Where it used to be, they now have a burgundy, gold, and white, like, border.
02:28And it throws me off when I'm looking at the board to figure out how many timeouts are.
02:33Because, formally, I would look at the left side of the end zone opposite.
02:37JP, I'm down there with you guys.
02:39So, opposite of where you guys are.
02:41Now, I have to look at the right side of the scoreboard to look for the timeout button.
02:46So, there may have been some confusion there how it's laid out in the scoreboard.
02:49They also have people up in the booth with television.
02:52Like, they're charting all this.
02:53Like, in the moment of the last minute of that game, is it chaotic on the field?
02:58Absolutely.
02:59But that is their duty to make sure they see through the chaos.
03:04Like, the best soldiers are trained to get through the smoke and to get through the debris.
03:09And that is what their job is.
03:12I think what I'm saying is that's why there may be some people calling in saying,
03:17Oh, the clock was frozen.
03:18They don't have the timeout.
03:19Just because some of that stuff did happen and did move.
03:22As far as Dan Quinn goes, as a head coach myself, I love how he's handling this.
03:28I mean, obviously, the bus has to stop with him.
03:30I would say the same thing.
03:31Obviously, my stakes aren't as high.
03:33However, the only thing that is concerning is that we always have to go back to this conversation
03:40of where it does end with him.
03:42One of my best friends is a long-time Falcons fan.
03:45He couldn't wait to dunk on me as soon as all that stuff happened after the game.
03:49I like Dan Quinn.
03:50I like the leader.
03:51I like the hoorah.
03:53It just does seem like we always have to go back to, well, this falls on me.
03:57And obviously, Coach, we know that.
04:00But after a while, I think that excuse runs a little bit short.
04:03And how many different people do we have in the coach's headset giving him numbers?
04:08Saying like, oh, well, you know, in this situation, there's 17% chance of going here.
04:13And in this situation, the numbers say there's a 13% chance of this.
04:16Sometimes I think that when you're in the flow of a game, you just have to trust your gut
04:21versus the numbers.
04:22And I don't know what he did or didn't do.
04:24But it does seem like a lot of today's NFL is geared towards the numbers.
04:28All sports, I guess.
04:29I appreciate you, Russ.
04:30We got to get some other colors on here, brother.
04:33Thank you, man.
04:36Joe Brady went with his gut last night.
04:38Two-minute warning.
04:39Kicks from the 27.
04:40Wins the game.
04:41There are – like, I don't want to discount how much is going on on that sideline
04:48in those moments.
04:49That's also why they make millions of dollars.
04:52You got to deal with it.
04:54You got to deal with it.
04:59Give me number 11, please, Jeffrey.
05:02Dan Quinn on fixing these issues, these late-game moments.
05:07Dan, just watching that end of game and the clock ticking down,
05:10what's going through your head in that moment?
05:12Well, knowing that we don't have timeouts, I'm wanting just to get, you know,
05:16the ball clocked.
05:16And so as the time's going down, it's not a good feeling, knowing that, you know,
05:22this moment's going to be slipping through our fingers.
05:25I'm going to contain myself here.
05:27I'm going to – I got it, Jay.
05:28You don't worry about it.
05:30If that's the situation, clock the ball, don't run the play.
05:36I mean, for all the people that want to try and blame, I'm just saying,
05:40at this point, clock the ball, don't run the play.
05:47Because when you clock that ball, it's third down right then.
05:52And if you want to run another play, now when you clocked it,
05:56you have a chance to talk about what you exactly want to do and then kick it.
06:00Or just kick it right then and there.
06:03The fact that it wasn't kicked makes me think they were trying to position
06:10or do something else.
06:13If the time is running down, no time out, clock it.
06:18There's no need for the extra play.
06:22Like, one thing that's important, especially if there's young people listening to us,
06:27right?
06:27And I learned this – I was older when I learned this, right?
06:31I was 25 years old when I kind of hit the reset button on my life.
06:34Because I was just like a stoner and got a job and was just kind of floating.
06:37And then I was like, wait, I want something else, right?
06:40But there's an incredibly important part of life where you realize
06:44you can change them.
06:47Whatever's going on in your situation, you can change it, right?
06:51Like, you can take some ownership and change it.
06:54And they had a lot going on, right?
06:5755 seconds, they run Rashad White.
06:59Everybody's running around with a chicken with their head cut off
07:01in slow motion somehow.
07:02They're completely unaware.
07:05Quinn, on that sideline, could have yelled,
07:08Blau, shut up.
07:09Jaden, line of scrimmage, clock it.
07:12Yeah.
07:13Like, you could have done that.
07:15But see, this is the thing where it baffles me, okay?
07:19I keep hearing people talk about your super talented quarterback.
07:24Your all-pro quarterback.
07:27When did that make – just because you are very good
07:29don't mean you know everything.
07:31There are people on the sideline who's supposed to know everything.
07:35If they didn't get it, you're not going to get it.
07:38So I want people to stop misconstruing athletic talent for knowing everything
07:47about a sport.
07:49I've seen quarterbacks in their 10th, 11th year make mistakes they probably shouldn't make
07:54in situations.
07:56And to try to throw it all in his lap when he hadn't played two full seasons yet.
08:01Yes, this is his third year.
08:02He hadn't played two full seasons.
08:05He's exceptionally talented.
08:07I don't think he knows everything and should not have to make everybody else look good.
08:13I heard somebody earlier say, well, he should clean it up and make his coaches look good.
08:17It's not his job.
08:18His job is to go out there and do what they asked him to do.
08:22So the whole thing is it was screwed up.
08:26And the last thing I'll say about this is this.
08:30The last play should have never been run.
08:32It should have been clocked.
08:34And we'll probably have a different conversation today.
08:39B, they could have kicked it on first down.
08:43There's no rule against that.
08:45The clock stopped.
08:46You have ample time to get your operation out there.
08:49You know what we never even found out?
08:51And I would love to get some Zapruder film of the sideline.
08:55Brian, you know this.
08:56You played special teams.
08:58Do you even think the field goal unit was right there ready to rock?
09:02I didn't see it on the sideline.
09:03I didn't see it.
09:04Now, I'm not saying I am unaware.
09:07No, no, no.
09:08I'm going to say this.
09:08But that group needs to be next to the head coach ready to sprint out there.
09:12All of these internet people that want to find the bad stuff, here we go.
09:18I challenge you.
09:20Find me a sideline pic or video at the moment we're running that play and let me see.
09:27Because that's a crowd of people ready to run on the football field.
09:31Should be easy to find.
09:341140.
09:35Go.
09:35Let's see how long it takes.
09:37Internet's loose.
09:38You have your mission.
09:39I will send you a $3 Venmo for a soda of your choice.
09:44Hell.
09:44If you find it.
09:4530.
09:46B says 30.
09:47Here we go.
09:47It's Bemis Venmo.
09:48I got you.
