00:00But something you've talked about many, many times over the years, his ability to help in pass protection.
00:06Yep.
00:07And we had somebody yesterday call in, basically, say, just until I don't get the fascination with this guy.
00:15But, look, is he Tony Dorsett?
00:17No.
00:18Would he be a lead back in the league?
00:20No.
00:21But is it a guy who fills a role and knows his role?
00:25Yep.
00:25And he can return kicks if he has to.
00:28So, he fills a need and, as we saw Sunday, does it really well at times.
00:36And I think you said it perfectly there, Bob, about he fills a role and he knows his role.
00:42He's not bitching about, you know, I want more carries and everything.
00:45And he's excellent on coverage units on special teams.
00:49So, yeah, he does his.
00:53And he's been a good player for a number of years in that role.
00:59I mean, he steps up on that pass protection, does a hell of a job.
01:03And he's good out of the backfield if he has to catch it.
01:06And he can make people, you know, and he had a nice burst on that short yardage play where he
01:12went down the field.
01:13He's made some big plays for them.
01:15I mean, the thing that I like about him is if you went and asked him, are you happy with
01:24your role?
01:24I know my role.
01:25I love my role.
01:27And he's making for what he does and stuff.
01:31He's making decent money.
01:33And he's happy with his role.
01:35I'm in the NFL and this is my role.
01:38And I just got to be great at what I do.
01:40And he's been in the NFL.
01:41He's like, what, five years?
01:43He's a tenured guy.
01:44So the Ravens getting ready for Cleveland, practice tomorrow.
01:47And we'll see if Lamar Jackson will be in attendance there.
01:50But Jacoby Lane and Juergens, Cam Juergens, who they traded for last week.
01:54A trade that still gets mixed reaction from the pundits given the sacrifices capital-wise that DeCosta gave up to
02:01get him.
02:02If he plays real well, Bob, then it's good for both.
02:06Yeah, because Venga is going to move back to guard.
02:08Yes.
02:09And it seems like Venga wants to move back to guard.
02:12I guess, you know, probably having to think about those snaps all the time.
02:15Maybe he's a pain in the ass.
02:17And this way he can just, you know, go clock people.
02:21Which I thought the kid did a phenomenal job.
02:25And I think he's getting better each week, no matter whether he plays guard or center.
02:30Even Jesse says, you know, I don't know what the rules are for rookie of the year, but he's got
02:37to be in the conversation.
02:40Epic Monday Night Football game last night out at SoFi as Buffalo wins in overtime over the Rams.
02:45We'll get into that one.
02:46We're in-depth coming up during the whip around.
02:49Terps hosting Rutgers coming up 1230 Saturday.
02:51Gaming in here on 105.7 The Fan Baseball Playoffs.
02:54Dodgers down 0-2, defending world champions.
02:57They get a day off.
02:58Shohei's banged up.
03:00Dave Roberts trying to figure out what to do with him.
03:02For the Brewers, two wins away from getting into the World Series for the first time in 44 years in
03:07the Rays.
03:08Maybe it was the rest.
03:09Or maybe they're playing a hot team.
03:12Guardians win the opener after falling behind 2-0 early in the game.
03:16Let's get out to the phones.
03:17Vinny Hattie, Nolan.
03:19P.T. in Towson.
03:20P.T., what's up?
03:21Hey, guys.
03:22Great show.
03:23And I agree with Vinny, man.
03:25I thought they played harder, smarter, and more physical than they have all season.
03:29And I hope we'd all agree that's what we would anticipate.
03:32It's a young staff.
03:33It's a new staff.
03:34And sure enough, the team is improving.
03:37And that really is something that I think we all should be excited about.
03:40And I think when you look at the rookie class, and Nolan hit me off air with it, and I
03:46completely agree.
03:47I think Zion didn't have his best game Sunday.
03:52But Zion is a young guy.
03:54And Rivers, I mean, he was missing tackles again Sunday, as you hit on yesterday, Vinny.
04:00But these are young guys, the young tight ends, and you just hope that they improve.
04:05And with this staff, if they're as good as we think they are, you know, you've got Young, Rivers, the
04:10two tight ends, Lane.
04:11I thought Burke played his best game.
04:13I thought he was engaging guys and tossing the block away.
04:18So, I see improvement, and I think we're going to see that from Young and Rivers, just a matter of
04:22time.
04:23The big play Sunday, and Vinny, I would be shocked if you don't agree with me, man.
04:31Matthews is a top 10 paid left tackle in football.
04:34And Green, who's like, what, 250, and he bull rushes that guy?
04:39He owns Matthews on that play.
04:41I thought that play was incredible.
04:42On the run play where they tackled him for, like, the four-yard loss?
04:45Oh, he busted his butt, didn't he?
04:48Yeah.
04:48It was beautiful.
04:50Low man wins.
04:51Man, didn't he, though?
04:53And nobody expected it, but he busted his tail on that play.
04:56I thought Green did a great job against a top 10 left tackle all day.
05:00But that's what I'm saying is this staff is going to improve these young guys.
05:05I think Trenton Simpson is going to play more to his assignment, and the talent's always been there.
05:09So, I'm just really excited.
05:12The one thing I would disagree, of course, I've got to have something.
05:15I thought Hill played his worst game.
05:17He had a great run, but he seemed to be chirping over his feet a couple of times.
05:21But I'm a big Hill guy, and where I disagree with everybody in the city and state, man, there's no
05:27way you can give Derrick Henry the ball 20.
05:31He can't lead the league in carries.
05:33You've got to get Hill the ball more.
05:36Well, I think if you look at it, he got a lot of carries in the overtime.
05:44You know, I think he carried it quite a bit in the overtime because there's some – I mean, in
05:50passing situations, Hill comes in and he goes out at most of them.
05:53So, I didn't think that he carried it too much.
06:00I mean, I was listening to Rich Gannon yesterday on NFL radio.
06:04He says, I think that Derrick Henry should have carried it more.
06:09Yeah, 24 carries, averaged 4.3.
06:12And PT brought up the Justice Hill.
06:16I remember one instance where he kind of tripped over his own feet.
06:20It looked like he was going to break out a big run in the first half.
06:24But I think it's a no harm, no foul.
06:28And, you know, PT brings the positivity.
06:32I'm expecting the 2000 Ravens defense to show up from here on out.
06:36By the way, PT, I'm still waiting for the 2025 Orioles to win the World Series.
06:40I don't see that happening.
06:42Let's go to Ed Narbutus.
06:43Ed, what's up?
06:45Bob, Benny, Nolan.
06:46Good morning to you, boys and gentlemen.
06:47Ed, before you start, we had a caller call in yesterday saying that you're Mel Kuyper's father.
06:53Mel Kuyper's senior.
06:54Senior.
06:54Mel Kuyper's senior.
06:56Yes.
06:56Yeah.
06:57Yeah.
06:58Well, Mel Kuyper Jr. is old, so I don't know what that means.
07:02Mel's my age.
07:03I remember when Mel Kuyper was in Calvert Hall starting his career.
07:09Some spillover raving comments for emphasis mentioned.
07:14I think Henry most effective on a C-gap toss pitch as opposed to the mesh point lengthy handoff,
07:21which requires the O-line to sustain longer.
07:25The Henry and Hill backfield counterplay was smooth as silk.
07:29I don't like Hill on a wheel route advantage mismatch on a linebacker who's in chase.
07:35Other tidbits.
07:37Mal Kuy Stark's number 24.
07:39A rundown heads-up tackler with some thud.
07:42I really like his game.
07:45Huntley, pocket-based footwork awareness, looking to throw, and did so accurate.
07:50All NFL QBs can chuck it 40 yards, thought they could try at least one home run shot at an
07:57optimal time,
07:58such as second and one or first play immediately after any type of field action downtime lull.
08:06Again, nothing ventured, nothing gained, such as a possible P.I.
08:11Corrective action reminder, and it's not meant to criticize.
08:15Center to QB shotgun snap exchange has got to be pinpoint accurate, belt high, with crisp, catchable velocity.
08:24Did notice a few that were not.
08:28Special teams, number 26, Rasheen Ali.
08:31Three tackles, two returns for 50 yards.
08:33Good open field work.
08:34Last thing today, gentlemen, fundamental refresher sequence of great importance.
08:42The art of punting a football, four things.
08:44You've got to flip the field every time.
08:46It's the first defensive play.
08:48You're looking for a booming leg for height, distance, and spiral action
08:53to make it more difficult for the return man to catch and return.
08:57No shanks.
08:58For the place kicker, just stay the course now.
09:01It's all about confidence.
09:02That's it today, gentlemen.
09:03I'm going to thank you for your courtesy, as always.
09:05All right.
09:06Thanks, Mel.
09:06Ednar Budis bringing – Mel Sr. bringing the heat there, Ednar Budis.
09:11But, yeah, Looper, we talked about a little bit yesterday, beyond 50, 5-for-5 after 1-for-4 last
09:18year.
09:18Yeah.
09:19To me, that's impressive.
09:22And I think, you know, the best thing is Jesse has no problem putting him in there now.
09:27Yeah.
09:28And I'm good with him when he – you know, when he goes in now, I'm better than 50-50
09:35that he's going to make it.
09:36And no kickoff gaffes that I recall so far this year, right?
09:39No.
09:40And they're not – you know, what Harbs wanted was Harbs wanted him to bounce it, land it between the
09:4820 and the goal line so it was harder to pick up.
09:50That's easy.
09:51Yeah.
09:52Yeah.
09:53So, that was kind of difficult.
09:56So, now they've just – what they do is they kick it high and put it, like, a yard deep
10:03in the end zone.
10:04And they're kind of, like, challenging him to figure that he'll bring it out, and he's starting in the end
10:10zone, which then it's –
10:12Good strategy.
10:13Yes.
10:13It's worked out well so far.
10:15And we will let Looper slide for the 40-yard shank against Tennessee.
10:20Yeah.
10:21No harm, no foul.
10:22Unless he does it again.
