"LET US REMOVE THAT KAWAWA NAMAN ANG VICE PRESIDENT SYNDROME'

House private prosecutor Atty. Lorna Kapunan urged the public to stop portraying Vice President Sara Duterte as a victim of the Senate impeachment trial, saying the Filipino people should be pitied for the alleged misuse of public funds.

During the House prosecution’s post-trial press briefing on Wednesday, Oct. 14, Kapunan called on the public to drop what she described as the “kawawa naman ang Vice President” syndrome. She stressed that the case concerns taxpayers’ money, not Duterte’s personal finances. (Video courtesy of House of Representatives)

00:00Let us remove that kawawa, kawawa naman ang vice president syndrome.
00:07We never saw her in the impeachment trial, but she would always have press conferences.
00:13So hindi pwedeng sabihin na she has never been given the opportunity to present her side.
00:19In fact, she has presented her side time and again.
00:23Number one, press conference, hindi naman under oath yun.
00:26She can say anything. It's not under oath.
00:30Number two, wala namang cross-examination sa press conferences niya.
00:35Wala namang evidencia, walang resibo, walang dokumento.
00:40So everything that she says is not supported by evidence.
00:45That is an advantage to her.
00:47Number three, sinisiraan niya lahat who have no opportunity to cross-examine her.
01:06These people don't have the opportunity to controvert whatever she says.
01:11So again, let us remove that kawawa, kawawa naman ang vice president syndrome.
01:20Let us not think like she is the victim.
01:24You, you, you are the victims.
01:26Whose money is this?
01:27These are public funds.
01:29These are not her personal funds.
01:30And yet she spends it as if it was her private ATM.
01:35She spends it the way she wants to spend it, without accountability.
01:50magre-reklamo.
01:50I am very surprised at the reaction of the defense councils when they say, acting as if they are aggrieved
02:02because the charges were dismissed.
02:06They should be happy.
02:07In fact, I doubt if they have consulted the vice president.
02:11When we manifested this afternoon, that's why very prudent yung ginawa ng senator judges to say, wait a minute, consult
02:21your client.
02:22Because I'm sure if you're the vice president, instead of facing four complaints, four charges, isa na lang, hindi ka
02:31ba happy?
02:46Maybe this is for the defense councils to answer.
02:51Certainly, if I were the vice president, I would even thank the prosecution because now she can focus on one.
03:00And on unexplained, I think instead of complaining about the prosecution, I think the vice president should start talking to
03:08her husband.
03:10Should start talking to her father so that she is able to explain the accounts of the father and herself,
03:19the accounts of the husband which she claims she does not know.
03:22Instead of attacking the wisdom of the senator judges, instead of attacking the decision of the public and private prosecutors,
03:33she should start presenting or building up her case.
03:38She should start talking to her husband.
03:41Huwag niyang ilalaglag yung asawa niya kasi absolute community yan.
03:45Alam natin, tayo dito, ayaw niya yung mga asawa niya.
03:49Pero hindi naman dapat ganun, no?
03:51Hindi pwedeng maglaglag.
03:53She knows or ought to know, she's a lawyer.
03:56She knows the absolute community of property is what is mine is yours, what is yours is mine.
04:06I mean, I don't want to delve into their domestic problems if they have any.
04:11But this is not about the domestic case.
04:14This is about the vice president accounting for public funds, which she did not declare in her salin.
04:25I know she cannot talk to the president, to the former president who is in Hague.
04:43Saying that she does not know that her father had an account with her.
04:47Ano yun?
05:06yung tatay niya kasi pati yung tatay niya kasi pati yung tatay niya kasi pati yung tatay niya kasi pati
05:11yung tatay niya kasi pati yung tatay niya kasi pati yung tatay niya kasi pati yung tatay niya kasi pati
05:12yung tatay niya kasi pati yung tatay niya kasi pati yung tatay niya kasi pati yung tatay niya kasi pati
05:12yung tatay niya kasi pati yung tatay niya kasi pati yung tatay niya kasi pati yung tatay niya kasi pati
05:12yung tatay niya kasi pati yung tatay niya kasi pati yung tat
