00:00This baby blue jay flew straight onto this woman's deck and decided she was going to be his new mom.
00:05This bird came out of nowhere.
00:07It just swooped down with its mouth open, making these sounds and with its wings flapping.
00:14It came back!
00:15Then Desiree took a closer look and realized he was just a baby.
00:19I think he's hungry.
00:20I mean, what are you supposed to do when a face like that asks you for food?
00:24But Birdie wasn't exactly helping himself.
00:27He wanted Desiree to feed him.
00:28I don't have anything in my house to feed birds, right?
00:31I mean, I'm just sitting here minding my own business, not expecting this to happen.
00:34The only thing I could think of was cat food because we have cats.
00:38I'm gonna see if I can do this now, okay?
00:41What Desiree thought would be a one-time meal became a daily routine.
00:49Birdie came back several times a day.
00:51And when their first video went viral...
00:53There was a couple of veterinarians that reached out to me in my DMs.
00:56They gave me some tips.
00:56Desiree researched better food options, learned how to safely give him water.
01:01And even started feeding him with chopsticks.
01:03But she was also careful not to interfere too much.
01:06I went with the assumption that maybe he lost his parents and his mom.
01:10And which is why he was hungry and seeking out food from humans.
01:14But he did learn over time.
01:21He does start to eat on his own.
01:23I saw him catching like grubs in the ground.
01:25Little by little, Birdie began to grow up.
01:28Look how he's laying.
01:30Aw, come here.
01:32You just chilling like that?
01:34I found out he was molting, which is a normal, you know, growing up behavior.
01:38He was like a teenager already and it had only been a couple of months.
01:42Eventually, Birdie wasn't even coming back for food anymore.
01:45He was just coming to see her.
01:47You hanging out in my lap?
01:49It just became like, you know, like a friendship.
01:51He even befriended Desiree's pigs.
01:54Really?
01:55Apparently, becoming part of the family meant the whole family.
01:59As Birdie grew up, his visits became less frequent.
02:02Hi, Birdie.
02:04When I say Birdie, he knows my voice.
02:07Hi, Birdie.
02:09Oh, hi, Birdie.
02:11I still see him in my trees.
02:12He comes to visit.
02:13He dropped a feather right in front of me.
02:15It just like came floating down, you know, from the sky basically.
02:18And I saved it because, you know how they say like the feather is like,
02:21I lost, you know, loved ones maybe coming to visit you.
02:23I feel like maybe it was a message from them.
02:25So, yeah, this is the feather that I saved.
02:27I just watched him from afar and appreciate the bond that we've shared.
