00:02Growing up at Undulia Station, Shannon Hayes has never witnessed storms like those that
00:07ripped through the region in recent days.
00:10So as you can see, the whole roof fell off and got blown probably another 10, 15 metres
00:17away.
00:17One of nine structures damaged, this building housed precious records.
00:21Documents across the station's 150 year history laid out to dry.
00:26We're in shock but we know that we could have been a lot worse.
00:29We didn't lose the roof to our house and things like that.
00:33Like we've still got somewhere to stay.
00:35Back here in Alice Springs, early assessments show more than 50 homes have been damaged including
00:41six that have lost more than half their roof.
00:44There are still under 2,000 homes without power and as crews tackle more complex repairs it
00:50could be days before some are back online.
00:52I would say we'd be looking at the end of the week by the time we get the last of
00:56the
00:56single customers in, potentially into the weekend.
00:59For those customers there's some financial relief.
01:02So this $250 power outage assistance payment will be for those who have been without power
01:08for 72 hours or more.
01:12As the cost of the clean up continues to rise, calls for emergency funding.
01:17And the first step there is that we need this to be declared what it was, which is a disaster
01:22event.
01:23But as the local member fronted the media, his government was inking an assistance package
01:27with the Commonwealth.
01:28That funding includes up to almost $17,000 for household repairs, for primary producers
01:34up to $15,000 for freight subsidies, while non-profits can apply for grants up to $10,000
01:41to repair assets, urgent support for a town in recovery mode.
