00:02The destructive system hit hard and fast, lashing the region with breakneck winds and
00:10drenching everything in its path.
00:12Yeah, so we saw storms form up to the west of Alice Springs.
00:16They moved quickly over Alice and brought some very damaging wind gusts, heavy rainfall
00:21and hail.
00:23Leaving a trail of destruction, with trees down, flooded roads and widespread property
00:29damage, including this home, where the roof ripped right off.
00:35Absolute shock, like came out of nowhere, didn't know where to go, didn't know where
00:41to stand.
00:42Power was cut to 9,000 homes and there's still a few thousand without power this afternoon.
00:48The last event like this was 40 years ago, so it's been a huge impact to the network.
00:54This really is a bit of an unprecedented event for our beautiful community here in Alice
00:59Springs.
01:00Paramedics received eight call-outs.
01:02None of those injuries, thankfully, is serious, so we'd like to keep it that way.
01:07Emergency crews responded to 50 calls for help working through the night.
01:12We have had those crews out this morning as well.
01:16We're continuing to operate, continuing to clear trees.
01:20Council already cleaning up after Friday's storm.
01:23We're not going to know the full extent of damages for quite a while.
01:27Remote communities were hit but damage limited, and the wild weather isn't over yet.
01:33The earliest we're expecting them to clear would be next week on Monday.
01:38Authorities calling for residents to stay alert.
01:41For the next 24 hours, let's stay vigilant, let's stay focused, let's keep looking after
01:46each other.
01:47A timely reminder with stormy skies ahead.
