Areas around Oklahoma City were hammered by heavy rain multiple days in a row, but the danger zone is shifting now.
Transcript
00:00Record-breaking rainfall is causing some major problems in central Oklahoma.
00:04Take a look at this video from Kingfisher County.
00:05This is northwest of Oklahoma City.
00:07Relentless rain has flooded and damaged roads and led to water rescues.
00:11We've got some numbers behind this as well.
00:13And there are a few areas that have seen 9 to 10.5 inches of rain.
00:18Take a look at this.
00:19I know we showed you this graphic with like a 48-hour rainfall amount.
00:24And most of that was really from Tuesday night to Wednesday.
00:28We showed this to you yesterday.
00:29Well, here's an update as we kind of expand the view.
00:32And now we've had a couple of reports on the northwest and the north side of OKC,
00:37which does line up pretty well with the radar.
00:39You can see that maroon 8 to 12 inches.
00:40Well, here we are 10.05, 10.16 in a couple of neighborhoods within the north and northwest side of
00:45Oklahoma City.
00:47Piedmont, Oklahoma to the west, 9 plus inches.
00:49Another report on the east side of that area just outside of town, 8.47.
00:54Calumet posting 8.26 inches.
00:56So, you know, this area along I-40 near and just west of Oklahoma City hit very hard two days
01:03in a row.
01:03Here's an updated look at the flood watches, flood warnings.
01:06And, again, the deepest green there is the river flood warnings.
01:09And they're going to be with us.
01:10Kind of a slowly evolving situation through the night tonight with high water on some of these slowly moving rivers.
01:17There's not much elevation change there.
01:19So, it's unlike what we see in the mountains where you get the rapid response of the rises of water.
01:24Kind of a slower move here in the larger rivers of Oklahoma.
01:29Tonight, we really do begin to see a big change.
01:32We've been so warm in the southeast.
01:33We're still going to be around 73 in Corpus Christi, 70 in Houston for the low.
01:37But look at what's going on in Oklahoma City and Lubbock.
01:39The front certainly pushing through.
01:41We drop all the way down to the mid-40s in Lubbock.
01:4348 still with some lingering evening rain in OKC.
01:46We're going to be windy in Albuquerque, and wind's going to be a big story in the west in other
01:50forms as well.
01:51But tomorrow, here's the blue on the map.
01:52The tail of the front pushes southeast.
01:54Near the tail of the front, there's still this tropical moisture that's kind of lingering in west Texas.
01:59So, there's going to be kind of a shift in the flood risk zone.
02:03Instead of it being the southern plains, it becomes more restrictive to west Texas and northwest parts of Mexico through
02:09the night.
02:10And then, really, as we get into Friday, things do turn a lot quieter for us on the domestic side.
02:15Look at this surge coming into Arizona, then, at the beginning of the weekend.
02:19So, in the short term, the flooding rain will be an issue, especially near the Rio Grande,
02:23with two to four inches of rain in the area near Big Bend National Park.
02:27The worst of it will likely be south of New Mexico.
02:30Man, what a change this is, Anna.
02:33After all these record-challenging highs, we're back into the blue, cooling down for many.
02:37Let's take a look at the height.
