Big changes are coming to some of Sydney's busiest rail lines next month. The T-4 will untangle and some T-8 services re-route to make trains more frequent and reliable. But there are losers too, with some passengers facing extra changes and longer trips.

00:01Too often on the T4, one wonders why they bother with timetables, like this morning
00:07when a broken track delayed commuters, just as the government was announcing improvements
00:11to the line.
00:12The T4 has been a real issue, and that has impacted both on the T4 and the South Coast
00:17line.
00:17The eastern suburbs in Illawarra and South Coast lines share a stretch of track, meaning
00:22a mishap at Bondi Junction can hold up trains as far as Kiama.
00:26The South Coast trains into Sydney, they'll now be on dedicated express tracks inbound
00:32of Hurstville.
00:33The reliability is a big issue.
00:35This will, by untangling our line, will aid and assist with that.
00:40With 200 more services a week, trains will be more frequent, but trips will be slower,
00:45with Sydenham added as a stop.
00:47Services coming from the South Coast, on average five or six minutes difference.
00:51In the big scheme of things, I think six minutes is not a big change, so I'm okay
00:57with that.
00:58At Wollongong, passengers were more annoyed about South Coast trains no longer stopping
01:02at Walleye Creek, making airport trips less direct.
01:05I think that's really bad.
01:07Wollongong people do travel and do get off at Walleye Creek, why are we penalised?
01:11There's just too many moving parts, especially if you are carrying luggage.
01:15The T8 won't stop at Sydenham anymore, meaning an extra change to get on the metro.
01:19Gaslining commuters is not a way to run a government.
01:23T4 travellers can look forward to shorter wait times, with peak period services increasing
01:28from a train every ten minutes to one every seven and a half.
01:31The new timetable begins on November 15th.
