00:00Sources have revealed that the Trump administration is building a case that could lead to the deportation of leftist representative
00:05Ilhan Omar,
00:07not long after Homeland Security investigators raided the squad member's home in Washington, D.C.
00:12According to a new report and people familiar with the investigation,
00:16federal agents barge into the Minnesota Democrats' home on Monday to seize her cell phone, notebooks, personal computers, and her
00:23passport.
00:24As investigators hone in on at least two federal investigations related to possible immigration fraud
00:30and inflation of her net worth by tens of millions of dollars in House disclosure forms.
00:35Omar has long maintained that she became a U.S. citizen at the age of 17 when her father was
00:40naturalized in 2000.
00:41But sources with direct knowledge of the federal raid on her D.C. bungalow
00:45said the Department of Justice is looking for evidence that the claim is a lie.
00:49Our sources tell us that this investigation must be well underway in order for a raid of this scale to
00:55have taken place.
00:56DHS must have presented really compelling proof that they would find evidence of ongoing criminal activity inside of Representative Omar's
01:05home.
01:06This sort of a search warrant isn't something that a judge, especially a D.C. judge,
01:11especially a D.C. judge under the Trump administration would hand out very lightly.
01:16According to federal defense attorney Todd Spodek, criminal charges could only be brought
01:20if the alleged immigration fraud occurred within the past 10 years.
01:24While if it concerned false statements, there would be a five-year statute of limitations.
01:28Spodek said that securing a criminal conviction for, quote,
01:31knowingly procuring naturalization unlawfully requires revocation of citizenship.
01:37But there is no similar statute of limitations if civil denaturalization is pursued.
01:42This is unprecedented.
01:43There's never been a sitting member of Congress who has ever been denaturalized or deported.
01:49There has been, curiously, recently in February of this year, there was an elected official, a former elected official,
01:55the mayor of North Miami.
01:57Federal agents have now entered a process to denaturalize him.
02:01That happened in February.
02:02It's now October.
02:04The denaturalization process is still underway for that former mayor.
02:09So that might give you a sense of how long this could take for Omar if they do find evidence
02:13of wrongdoing.
